Epiduo disaster.

Cons:

Redness
burning
more pimples

I first started taking epiduo about 2 months ago. My derm recommended clyndamycin in the morning and epiduo at night. Boi, epiduo made my face red and it burned. I have really sensitive skin so it sucked. It made me peel which was really nasty,(AND AT SCHOOL!) I had really red burnt cheeks. It also gave me more pimples! after I got off of it, my skin returned to normal.

Not working and really irritates my skin

Pros:

Easy to apply

Cons:

Irritates skin
Dries out skin
Doesn't help much

I have normal skin, normally have 5-6 pimple around my chin, but I do have quite a few scars. I started using Tactuo (Epiduo) a month ago. It didn't help with the breakouts at all. The worst thing is it really irritates my skin, and now my skin is sensitive even to my regular skin care regimen (La Roche Posay Effaclar products). I had a bad skin burning sensation every time I applied Tactuo and it still hasn't settled after a month. I think I'll stop using it...

Worried...

Cons:

no improvement...

So I've been using Epiduo for almost 7 weeks now and I'm not really seeing any improvement.... Should I persist when there hasn't been any changes yet? I hate wasting my time on different things that don't work :(

Torture

Cons:

Dry, flaky, burned skin
Expensive

I am so upset with this product. After using it for a few days, my face was extremely red, flaky and I was feeling like I was on fire! My face at its worst! So I stopped the treatment for a while, like my dermatologist said, and when my face was ok again, I began using Dalacin C, a much more mild treatment. Let's see...

An awful experience

Cons:

Made my acne worse
Dried my skin
A painful burning sensation

In the summer of 2013 I went on holiday to Spain which was so lovely, apart from the fact that I broke out quite a bit, more than I had before. I didn't really think much of it as I thought it was just sensitive skin reacting to the sun cream which I didn't end up using again. When I came home my Mum took me to the doctors who prescribed me with the Epiduo Gel. All he said to apply a pea size amount every night before bed and then come back in 3 months to get more Gel and that my acne would be gone by then. This never happened. In the first week of using Epiduo my skin got very red, irritated and extremely dry. My whole face burned like I have never experienced before. I cried a couple of nights because it hurt that bad. After another week the burning calmed down but my skin was still extremely dry. I'd never moisturised before as I naturally have rather oily skin, but I ended up trying 'Nivea Rich Moisturising Day Cream' but didn't really like it (it was too rich for my skin) but it did help with the dryness. I next went onto the 'Simple Light Moisturiser' which I love and still use to this day. That helped a lot with the dryness. But anyway, as the days went on my skin got worse and worse to a point I was crying every day and started having panic attacks before and after school thinking that I would get judged for how my skin now looked as before the summer holidays my skin was fine. My acne started to get worse all around my right cheek and I would get those really big lumpy type of spots quite a bit which really hurt and left awful scarring. For the seven whole weeks of using Epiduo I was crying everyday and I eventually couldn't take it any longer. I couldn't see any signs of my skin improving in the next couple of weeks so my doctor, my parents and myself agreed that it wasn't working. I haven't used Epiduo in nearly two weeks now and my skin is so much better than it was. I am now taking an antibiotic everyday along with my 5% Quinoderm cream which I apply to the needed area morning and night. I use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser to wash my face morning and night before I apply my Quinoderm and I use the Simple Light Moisteriser in the morning after I apply the cream. My skin is better than it was, it's not great yet but I have only been on this routine for a week. Overall Epiduo did not work for me, but it works for others. I just need to keep my head high and hope for the best. Good luck everyone.

Temporary Relief
No. This cleared up my skin for about three months, and the acne started coming back. This product has made my skin so oily and dehydrated. I regret trying it... it's one of the products that started my long line of medications for acne.

Nope.

Pros:

Got free trial sizes from GP

Cons:

Burning, itching, peeling, redness, drying
Took about a month for my skin to recover
Can't tolerate with sensitive skin

If you have any degree of sensitive skin, please save yourself the pain and do not use this product. I should have predicted the outcome I would have with this medication because I can't tolerate BP. So, BP and retinol together....Nope. Not good. I felt like my skin was melting off my face. I had extreme redness, drying, itching, peeling, and burning. I was using this product on my forehead, so it must have gotten into the area around my eyes which hurt so badly I was in tears for days. No moisturizer could remedy the damage this product caused at that time. LIke I sad, bad bad bad for sensitive skin!

Too harsh on sensitive skin.

Pros:

BP does zap zits well

Cons:

intense burning/stinging
bleaches towels and clothes
severe rednes

This was the first topical my original derm prescribed for me - later, I left him because he would prescribe something new without asking me more details about what was going on (e.g. if my acne was related to my period, how sensitive my skin was, what products I had used before). BP alone is far too much for my skin, and adding more to it only made it worse. I stuck it out for a little over two weeks, until the pain even from just water touching my face was too intense. So though I blame my Epiduo fiasco partially on my derm, the product itself may have cleared my acne minorly, but the resulting intense redness and sensitivity weren't worth it.

Horrible! Just horrible!
I am a 23 year old female. NEVER had issues with acne my entire life until about 3 months ago. Its in my chin region and nowhere else. I went to the dermatologist and he prescribed me Epiduo. It's been exactly a month today that I've been using it every night before bedtime, and it's only made my face worse. Whereas before I had about 4 large cystic pimples on my chin, after epiduo I now have about 12. They WILL NOT go away and are very painful. I do not recommend this product whatsoever. Makes your skin red, itchy, sore, and also makes you peel along with making you breakout even worse. I've read other posts and I know others say after about 3 weeks of using this product they started to see results. Well, not for me. Like I said...its been a month and it's still worse than ever.

Oh the frustration

Pros:

No more forehead whiteheads
No more bangs

Cons:

Irritation
Doesn't work for my entire face
Losing hope

So I started getting acne around 14 and for years I used OTC products to control it and had relatively nice skin. Over time the product ingredients I was using (benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil, salicylic acid, etc) lost their effectiveness and so almost a year ago I realized that they no longer worked for me. I am now 20. I began getting breakout after breakout which left much scarring. So after about 6 months of trying all kinds of remedies I decided that I needed to go to a dermatologist. I went and was prescribed epiduo and clindamycin 1% pads. What can I say? Epiduo has mostly been a huge disappointment to me as it has not really changed anything. I have been using it for two months. I went through the initial breakout, dryness, flaking, redness, and irritation in hopes that by the end of it all my acne would be better. However all that effort was to no avail as my acne on my jaw has only gotten worse even after the initial breakout. I had a horrible ib for two to three weeks. After that my skin got better but only briefly. Now my skin is absolutely awful and epiduo hasn't done much to help it. I use it religiously every night to no avail. No change. The dermatologist said epiduo should help with the inflammation and whiteheads I keep getting but no. The only positive is that I don't get much forehead whiteheads now and so I have resorted to growing out my bangs as I no longer need them to cover my forehead acne. However my cheeks look ridiculous as they're covered in scars and new pimples. As soon as one zit goes away two or three more form so it's a constant cycle. Epiduo does seem to help slightly with scarring though but it doesn't do what it's supposed to do for me. I guess my acne is more stubborn than I thought. After all the positive reviews I was hoping it would work for me but at this point I doubt it. I hope it works for you guys though.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
