A way of using benzoyl peroxide in combination with the topical retinoid, adapalene, that studies show works a bit better than benzoyl peroxide alone. Comes with side effects for the first weeks and can bleach fabric. Note: When used correctly, benzoyl peroxide on its own can completely clear the skin.

Pros:

Heals acne fast.
Helps fight bacteria (Benzoyl Peroxide)
Helps with spots.

Cons:

Makes your skin dry, so only use it where you need it.

I have been using Differin for about a year and a half, along with Tetracycline. The Differin was okay, it made my skin heal faster, but it wasn't doing anything to help with the bacteria that was contributing to the acne in the first place. So about a month ago my doctor told me to start using Epiduo. He also told me to take the Tetracycline more frequently (2 in the am and 2 in the pm) I was really surprised at how fast it cleared my breakouts. My skin breaks out because of my hormones, so I can't do much to prevent the acne ( I still get a few pimples here and there) but they are small and are gone within a day, thanks to Epiduo. I never had the "purging" effect either, probably because I was already using Differin, and my skin had already been purged with an increase in breakouts. But I'm glad I went through it because now my skin is so much better. It took a while to figure out what my skin needed. And I learned what irritates it and what helps it. Be smart when you try products to help your skin, a little goes a long way. I also found that eating right, drinking lots of water and exercising helps too. I ONLY drink water and I make sure to eat plenty of vegetables. I also run every morning I get (nothing too extreme). Sometimes you can't just sit back and expect a little cream to do everything for you. Take care of your body, inside and out, and you will be beautiful :)

Pros:

Cleared my skin within a few weeks.

Cons:

Very drying for the first week or so, until you get used to it
Gets much worse before it gets better

Overall I am very pleased with this product. When I started Epiduo I only used it once a day and it cleared my skin pretty effectively, but not completely. The only problem I had was being very dry for the first week. My dermatologist recommended using it twice a day to increase it's effectiveness. The first week, it worked perfectly. The second week, I broke out HORRIBLY. I thought I was allergic to it, because I had horrible blister-looking cysts all over my chin. My entire chin was so swollen, I could barely eat. However, I knew that these types of medicines get out all the "impurities" before they work, so I continued using it on my acne. Within 4 or 5 days, the bad breakout had basically disappeared. Ever since then, I've had almost flawless skin. I still have one or 2 pimples every month or so, but that's basically it. I've had moderate to severe acne since puberty, so this is the first medicine that has worked this well. I definitely recommend this product!

So far, so good
I first started using Epiduo three and a half years ago, as part of a treatment prescribed by a dermatologist. At night I had to wash my face with Avene Cold Cream soap, then apply Epiduo or Differin (I had to alternate between them). I used Avene Clean AC moisturizer in the morning, after washing my face with the soap. He also prescribed me an antibiotic. That treatment took forever to work but eventually it did, and within four months (give or take) I had flawless skin. However, after a couple of months I stopped going to the dermatologist because it was really far away and also because my skin was looking pretty good. Eventually I stopped taking the pills because I couldn't get them without a recipe and I stopped using Epiduo and stick to Differin because I thought it was the same. My acne gradually came back. I've tried a lot of different things since then, including over the counter products such as Estee Lauder's Clear Difference and Avene's Triacneal, but none of them really worked for me. Only now, three years later, it occured to me that it was Epiduo the one doing the trick, and not Differin. So I decided to give it a try again. I started using it daily exactly two weeks ago (I also started taking the antibiotics) and it has completely cleared all my blackheads and those skin colored comedones that are so annoying. However I've been getting a lot of red, painful pimples. I'm not sure if that's my skin purging though, because I got my period recently and I've been also eating like sh*t. Unfortunately it has made my skin really dry and itchy. The first couple of days it also burned for like an hour after I applied it, but not anymore. In my opinion, all of that is worth it as long as it works, you just have to use a really good moisturizer with SPF. Something else I noticed is that at least for me, it doesn't make pimples go away any faster. It is, however, supposed to prevent them. It's still too early to say if it really works for me, but I will update this review in a couple of weeks! Wish me luck. UPDATE 07/07/2016: I've been on Epiduo for a little over 6 weeks, and honestly my skin looks so good you wouldn't believe it! I still get pimples but they are small and go away fast. I also still have some blackheads on my nose but those will probably take a little longer, I'm confident they will eventually go away. My skin is the best it has been in months. I'm so happy I decided to give this another try. Most of the side effects have disappeared, but my skin still is really dry. Honestly if you're doubting whether to try this or not, do it now! You just have to stick with it and eventually your skin will get better, pinky promise! UPDATE 07/26/2016: I'm officially acne free. I can't remember the last time I got a new pimple. I still have hyperpigmentation and some blackheads but I'm happy! My skin is 99% clear! However, it is also extremely dry. I have to apply moisturizer several times a day and it still isn't enough. I will try to use Epiduo every two or three days, to see if the dryness is reduced. I won't stop using it, though, because if I do my acne will gradually come back.

Im also on Epiduo, i found that the Cetaphil moisturisers worked really well for dry skin. Which moisturisers do you use?

Could you provide the name of the antibiotic you are taking?

Pros:

Pimples started to diminish after first 2 days. Minimal redness and burning. Smooths complexion out.

Cons:

Bleaches your pillow case --make sure you use an old one, or white one!

I'm 23, had bad forehead acne from 13-18. All my acne disappeared between 18-22. Now I'm 23 and I've been having very bad embarassing breakouts on my chin, cheeks and jawline. I have been using this for a week every night and my acne has cleared up 75%. It's a self-esteem/confidence savor. I hope it works as good for you as it has for me!

Pros:

Epiduo removed all my whiteheads within 3 months of consistent use. I still suffer from some blackheads, but they have definitely shrunk in size to the point you can only see them if you are up close! Note---I'm using this as the benzoyl peroxide in Dan's regimen.

Cons:

Drying. Takes thirty minutes to an hour to absorb.

I love this product and will use it again!

Pros:

Free First Tube w/ Rebate Card
Clears Quickly
Little Initial Breakout
Controls Oil REALLY Well
Controls non-inflammitory acne

Cons:

Burning
Dryness
Flaking

I've only been on this for a week, and I already see a huge improvement in my face! My cheeks had red marks on them from previous acne, and they have started to fade SO much quicker. The non-inflammitory acne (those small, skin colored bumps that are hard to get rid of) have gone away for the most part. My T-Zone used to get SUPER oily by mid-morning, and now, its a perfect balance where its not oily, but its not really dry. I HAVE had lots of burning, after I apply it. I apply it after washing with Cetaphil and it burns kind of badly, but I apply it right before bed and the burning is gone by the time I wake up. Around my nostrils and forehead, there has been a little bit of flaking and dryness, but its nothing a moisturizer can't fix. I had a small initial breakout about 4 days after i started, but they aren't the deep, painful ones. They were only on my forehead and there were only 3 or 4 of them. I would DEFINITELY reccomend this.

Pros:

Dries Out new Pimples

skin flakes off revealing flawless skin

fairly cheap with rebate card

Cons:

burning sensation may occur but thats no problem

My acne has gotten worse and worse in the past six months or so after trying various products i.e murad, pro activ, and acne free. I finally bit the bullet and went to the derm. My acne had really gotten in the way of my social life as i am extremely embarassed to talk and make eye contact with a girl with huge boulders of white pus on my face. I was really embarassed when a girl i was talking to said wow your face looks terrible, what is wrong with it. So i went to my derm and was prescribed epiduo and solodyn, amd man am i glad i did my face went through a phase of intense "shedding" in which the dead skin or whatever it was; was just flaking off it was extremely dry but i would rather have a dry face than an oily red pus face. so after exfoliating tonight underneath the flakes was some of the clearest skin i have seen in 6 months i am very pleased with the progress of this product. Epiduo has boosted my confidence ten fold. Although I do have two large whitheads left on my face it is nothing compared to where my skin was a week ago and i am willing to bet with continued use of this product the pimple should be gone within 2 days or so. To make long story short the combined ingredients of adapalene and benzoyl peroxide works wonders on troubled this product has earned my approval. and just a side note use the card from your doctor it saved me $200.

Pros:

-Does lessen acne over time, but at a price

Cons:

-burning
-scaling
-sunburn-like reddening of sensitive areas
-doesnt take care of blackheads
-highly irritating

I have oily, sensitive skin and this product seemed to do much more harm to my skin than good. It may be that im just very sensitive to products like this but my experience with it was very uncomfortable. My skin burned and itched when i applied this and for the first few months i would wake up to peeling skin every morning. While using epiduo i also have a perpetual, sunburn-like appearance that never got better or went away. bottom line: although it did lessen my acne severity over time, i still had plenty of zits even after 9 months of using it. irritating, painful, embarassing.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
