Pros:

100 mg/day clears up my acne. 75mg a day maintains pretty well. I've been using it regularly for 20+ years starting at age 32. I've noticed no negative side effects, except nausea when taken on an empty stomach. Best taken right after dinner.

The only thing I've tried that works consistently, and quickly.

After a week of an initial breakout period this works wonders!
I wrote a previous review for this product on Amazon but I think the sellers hid it because I gave it one star and claimed it made me break out immeditely. It is true that this product made me break out but it was only the first inital week I took it and the only reason I am posting this is because I could find little information on initial breakouts with zinc. After a week my skin cleared up and I have not had a break out since. I have mild acne associated with hormones so in my opinion, depending on the person, this works for people who do not have cystic acne as well. I only take one a day (with a meal) because the doses are already over the daily reccomendations but try this out for at least a week or two and see what happens!

So far, so good!

Pros:

Seems to prevents new acne/cysts/pustles.
MUCH easier than other regimens.
MUCH cheaper than other regimens.

Cons:

Possible (small) purge in the beginning.
Could potentially cause copper deficiency.

For starters, I take 50mg of Chelated Zinc Gluconate from Nature's Bounty. It's one small pill a day that I take after dinner with some coffee, and I've not experienced any of the negative side effects that other's have mentioned. I'm also 17, female, and have dealt with acne since I was about 9 - I believe because of an estrogen surplus. I've tried almost every topical on the market - perscription or otherwise, but my family couldn't afford to visit a proper dermetologist until recently, nevermind a perscription for accutane. (And to be honest, I'd take zits over any of the potential side effects any day.) Also, my mother refused to even consider birth control. It just isn't an option in my family. I've been taking Zinc in this dose for about 8 days now and...low and behold, no new acne. I don't really believe it. I'm sure I sound like a cheesy infomercial but guys, it's actually kind of legit, and it's probably one of the easiest things you can try before heading off to a dermetologist and letting them pump chemicals and silicons onto your face. I used to get these nasty cysts around my mouth and chin, and huge whiteheads right on my lip that looked like cold sores. I have bangs too, so my forehead would get really greasy by 12 o'clock, even in winter. Now my skin is neither dry nor oily, just...normal. I've NEVER had normal skin - you can imagine my excitement. THAT BEING SAID, my skin hasn't just magically become clear overnight, guys. My face is still riddled with old hyperpigmentation marks and scars, and there's still the occasional bump where blackheads are resting or where I suffered the worst breakouts and the skin is rebelling, but there's no new active pimples or pustles to be found anywhere on my face. I haven't had a single whitehead since the first 3 or so days I started taking zinc (and those were small and disappeared in a day or two,) and the redness in my face is going away now that I've begun using an astringent and moisturizor again. I don't want to let myself hope, since so many things have failed me before, but for the first time since I can remember, my skin is actually kind of smooth. It's freaking me out, lol. With the brand I'm using, you get 100 pills, or a three month-ish supply if you only take one per day. I took pictures and plan on updating in another 3 weeks, and then again each month until I'm out. Hopefully, I'll still have good news to report. ^-^

A cure for hormonal acne

Pros:

Will treat acne from within
Cheap
Safe

Zinc cleared my hormonal cystic acne. I had a severe hormonal breakout after coming off Yaz (BCP). I had cystic acne on my chin, neck and jawline. After 6 months of trying to clear it, I realised that you can't 'cure' hormonal acne topically, you have to work from within as well. Just before I decided to turn to antibiotics, I read about Zinc. I was scarred from using pills to treat acne, after my experience with BCP, and really didn't want to use antibiotics, but I thought I had no choice. But instead I decided to start taking Zinc (25mg amino acid chelate) and 3g of fish oil daily. Within a week, my cysts which had been there for over 3 months (yes, one cluster of cysts on my neck was there for about 3 months), were gone. All my cysts had virtually disappeared. 6 weeks in, and I now have one cyst, and maybe 3-4 pimples. This is a dramatic improvement from the cystic acne that was all over my chin, jawline and neck. I will continue to take Zinc indefinitely. It is an easy and safe way to treat hormonal acne (or any acne) from the inside in conjunction with topical treatments. Highly recommended. Also, I have had no negative symptoms relating to nausea. I take the Zinc with dinner, either in the middle of my meal or at the end, and I have had zero negative symptoms.

Pros:

Within one week a lifetime of dealing with acne was finally gone. My skin was smooth and my complexion was rosy.Even hands were very soft. Zinc and Vit C lozenges...yummy fruit flavored, generic brand 100 tabs 7.99CDN

Cons:

After a week caused slight nausea and tummy upset.

I am 50 years old and the zince finally gave me a period of time totally acne free. Dr showed concern in taking the zinc long time because of its retention and sideeffects (depletes copper?) so I cut back and guess what? Acne came back. I am on the regimen again and already the active acne is clearing up. I have tried everything on the market, otc and prescription and nothing worked. I'm staying with the zinc.

Pros:

95% of acne has cleared within two weeks. skin is no longer red. i experience absolutely no discomfort from taking them. they're affordable. i feel more vital.

Cons:

the pharmacist recommended not to take them for longer than 3 months at a time as an overdose can have some side-effects like an increase in the body's copper-production

for a long time now i've been looking for a hassle-free way to stop breakouts and improve my skin. i've tried a variety of creams, oils, diets and other supplements...this is the first thing that's really worked for me. and the best thing about it is that it doesn't require much effort at all, unlike diets for example, which ask you to cut a number of diifferent food-types out of your diet. i can't tell you how good it feels not to have to worry about my skin any more!

Pros:

Has cured me of acne i can;t believe it!

Cons:

none

have taken 50mg of the element zinc as zinc chelate (225mg zinc chelate) daily for 5 wks. HUGE improvement, my skin has never been this good on anything (have tried diane 35/roacutane/loads topicals) have stopped wearing concealer for the first time in 10 yrs. Note bottles say zinc chelate 75mg, this is only 15mg of actual zinc! don;t take with calcium or iron, or with wheat/whole grains as they contain phylates which block zn absorbtion.

Pros:

Wow, I've seen a huge difference after using this for about a week! Started with 50mg then after a week moved down to 25. It does induce slight nausea, but it's worth bearing. Finally something effective rather than BP. Hormonal acne no more.

Cons:

nausea, dizziness, discomfort when at 50mg doses at morning and night. Basically toxic dose but it's very effective against hormonal acne!

I believe this must balance hormones well. I've come to conclusion that I have hormonal acne and attacking with topicals isn't going to get me very far. I decided to try supplements. I've tried fish oil [no results], B5 [very drying but works ok], vitamin e [for scar healing and am still using it] and finally zinc [the cure]. I'm very impressed with what I'm seeing every time I look in the mirror. Zinc may be a cure for some people. I had quite severe acne. My cheeks, my forehead and chin were covered. Now only scars remain but they're fading quite quickly. I was becoming depressed before using Zinc due to no successful treatment options. Have tried everything including online pills designed for acne fighting such as Acneticin. If you haven't tried Zinc yet DO IT NOW! What do you have to lose? It's worth it. Go buy yourself 50mg of Chelated Zinc.
