Pros:

inexpensive

Cons:

migraine, nausea, dizzy spells, disimprovement of acne

ive been on many antibiotics, topicals and birth control treatments that have not worked, but this is the first treatment that significantly worsened my condition.before treatment i had moderate acne, not inflamed, localised to centre of my forehead, chin, cheeks, chest+back.in the first3 weeks i noticed improvement, along with frequent headaches.from then, considerable disimprovement, along with daily migraines, nausea, dizzy spells and i have fainted several times.i have been taking trimethoprim for 4 months and now have cystic acne with several cysts on my face+back.i broke out heavily all over my forehead and the sides of my face, and developed milia on my temple, and an extensive coverage of blackheads.i have a vast coverage of acne on my face and my skin is thinner and more sensitive.i have noticed my oil production has increased.i continure to take this faithfully so my derm will have no choice but to prescribe me roaccutane, as scary as that is.this treatment was hellish for me.

Pros:

- It has a lot of positive reviews from people

Cons:

- Its Side Effects are annoying and could be dangerous

I'm 15 years old and I've had acne for two years now. At first I would try using cheap acne creams but that didn't work so I started to use a pill called isoface which is basically accurate and I started getting really depressed so I stopped. I went to a dermatologist for the first time and prescribed me minocycoline and again I started to get an allergic reaction to it do I stopped. About a month ago I was prescribed SMZ - TMP 800 1600 and it sucks. It's been one month and I haven't seen absolutely no improvement if anything it's become worse. I also have experienced painfull diarrhea so I've come to realize that when none of these pills or creams work for you just stop taking them. I'm getting tired of trying this or that to cure my acne so just to hell with it. I'm just going to let time pass and it WILL go away by itself.

Pros:

Worked very well on my skin

Cons:

I had a serum reaction and had to go to the hospital for a night. Awful symptoms including high fever, a lot of vomiting, and a rash.

It's probably a great drug if you know for sure that you can handle sulfa drugs. Otherwise the reaction can be pretty intense and scary.

Pros:

Cleared me in three days. This worked well for about 5 months but I've started getting cysts again.

Cons:

I've never used an antibiotic (and I've tried them all) that I became resistant to so quickly.
I'm not allergic to this drug so I've had no other side effects as of yet but reading the possible side effects are scarey. I'm getting off this drug.

This is definitely not for long term use. My internist told me it is very hard on the liver and kidneys plus the possible side effects of Stevens-Johnson syndrome do not make up for the short term clearing of my skin.

Pros:

Prevents cysts
Reduces oil production
Kills Bacteria

Cons:

Does not clear acne.

Kills bacteria, prevents cysts, does not clear acne. I would recommend if you're trying to maintain your active acne. By no means is this a miracle pill.

Pros:

Works when using, but takes awhile to start working

Cons:

After using for 5 months, it was like my skin became immune to it, and it stopped helping.

This is a very old drug. It's main purpose is to clear up UT infections, and other infections in the body. After hearing about people dying from taking Bactrim, and the fact that i still had bad acne, i decided to stop taking the pill. However, if you trust medicine, and do not have harsh acne, i'd suggest it, but not long term.

Pros:

Works slightly with high dosage, no bad side effects

Cons:

Does not work on chest, shoulder or back acne.

Have used this for nearly 6 weeks now with little improvement and have even increased my dosage to taking 6 double strength pills per day. Anybody who is taking this for body acne is definitely better off skipping this and going straight to Accutane.

Pros:

The medicine is inexpensive and has low side effects. The other anti-biotics I have taken cause pretty severe sensitivity to the sun, but I did not expereince this with Bactrim.

Cons:

I have mild-severe scalp acne. The bactrim does not completely stop break outs, but it does prevent the larger postules from forming.

There are more powerful anitbiotics available, but they have stronger side effects. Bactrim will probably cure your mild acne problems, but it doesn't perform as well for severe cases.

Pros:

I guess it worked a little bit.

Cons:

Huge pill, nausea,

Most people said this worked for them but it DID NOT work for me. I didn't have an allergic reaction but its almost like it didn't affect my skin at all. And it made me lose weight like crazy. Which shouldn't be a problem but for someone already being 20-30 pounds underweight it was quite an issue for me. You think for all those side effects it'd work like a mirace but nooope, not for me.

Pros:

Seems to work quickly even when other medications won't

Cons:

Warning-High levels of allergic reactions

Started to work after 10 days and things were looking good until...itchy hives and a rash on my legs. I would give it a try if other mild antibiotics aren't working out, maybe you will have better luck.
