Pros:

Completely Cleared Up My Skin
Cost is Reasonable

Cons:

Took Several Months to see results.
HUGE pill size
(Tastes nasty if it's in your mouth too long)

When I went and saw my dermatologist for the first time my acne was so severe, with lots of cystic pimples, and scars that she wanted to put me on Accutane, but my parents were against it since I would have to be on bc. So instead of Accutane she perscribed this. The first few months on Bacrtim I didn't see much improvement at all, and I was about ready to give up when my skin started clearing a little by little. After a year my skin has become virtually pimple free, absolutely no cystic acne, and now I feel comfortable not wearing makeup most days. My dermatologist told me at my last visit this spring that I can discontinue the Bactrim when I think I'm ready, which was great news. I'm still taking it, but I may stop it towards the end of the year. :)

Pros:

fast working!!

Cons:

upsets my tummy a bit

works beautifully so far. noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference in 24 hours. i usually have 4 to 5 cysts on my face at any given time. they hurt and they are embarassing. right now though, i have a tiny little zit on my forehead. thats it! after years of hiding my face with makeup, i feel naturally lovely. FINALLY

Pros:

Works
Fast acting

Cons:

Causes indigestion
Has various side effects - itchy skin, sinsus

Bactrim works, it clears up cystic acne relatively quickly in conjunction with topicals (Benzoyl Peroxide; Retin A). Does increase sensitivity to the sun and has numerous side effects(especially with those persons who are sulphur intolerant).

Loved it
I took bactrim with duac and retin-a and I had amazing results. After the initial flareup, my skin was clear as day and my skin tone was even as well. My skin hasn't been that clear since I started puberty over 10 years ago. I took a break from the treatment to see if my skin would be fine on its own and it wasn't. Unfortunately, even though I've repeated the exact same treatment, I have never achieved the same results I did as the first time I took bactrim.

Pros:

It clears you up.

Cons:

..but for most people who have had consistent acne it will come back after you get off it (within 4 months)...So you'll then have to decide if you want to get back on it or if you want to mess with Accutane

so yeah it's good...but it's not a long-term fix

Pros:

Seems to be working, (on it now).

Cons:

I've been on it for almost a moth but I still get some deep pimples.
I got a mild rash within the first 2 weeks but just discontinued the medication for a few days and now my body is used to it.

If you don't want to take the next step and do accutane this is for you, if this doesn't clear up my skin completley within a month I am swapping to that. Its affordable, and works but if you aren't satisfied get onto accutane, which has more side effects but I've had 3 friends who have previously been on it and they are fine and their skin is amazing now. I got this medication for cheaper for government compensation or something, so it only cost me $22.

Pros:

Bactrim is a strong antibiotic that usually works very quickly. If you are not getting results with the tetracycline family, bactrim can do the trick. I stayed clear for about 3 and 1/2 years while on it. I took breaks from it from time to time.

Cons:

Eventually bacteria will become resistance and it will stop working. Not a cure. Only a temporary fix.

It cleared me up great when no other antibiotic worked. Eventually stopped working. Try this before going on accutane to give you a head start and you mostly likely won't have an IB from accutane.

Pros:

I loved this medicine. I did alot for my skin and confidence. It works really really well. I used to get those cystic zits and little ones too. I tried birth control first, then pro active, then tetracycline, then bactrim.

Cons:

that you can become resistant to the medication, and also there is a chance of liver/kidney damage.

its a great medication to get rid of acne, i've been taking it for about 3 years off and on, only so that i do not become resistant to it, my skin has actually improved and i don't need to take as many pills or as often, i only start to take it if i notice more outbreaks or before a big event so i can make sure my skin is clear for my vacation or whatever.

Pros:

-cleared most acne fast
-cheap
-simple

Cons:

-serious side effects can occur
-acne will get worse before it gets better
-may require assistance from topical creams

I find this a very helpful drug. Although a few days in and I began experiencing extreme heat flashes and i did sweat more when exercising, I'm a guy so it cant be anything nature related. also another thing i experienced was extreme lightheadedness and it doesn't cooperate with soft drinks very much. also when reading about things that can occur like steven-johnson syndrome it is very unlikely so dint worry unless you get exxtreme symptoms... but it works very well!!!

Pros:

Seems to be working well to clear most of my acne along with the use of Yaz

Cons:

I have been using it for 2 months and I still get 2-3 large hormonal cysts during my period even though I am using this along with Yaz

It seems to work well for most of the people that have posted on this blog, it has its good days and its bad days for me. I am going to go on Accutane in a couple of months to be completely clear though because this, along with everything else that I have tried, is still not able to clear up the cystic acnes(?) that I get during my period, which leave extremely visible dark spots and scars. The oil level on my face has not changed either. I have always had quite a lot of oil on my face and this does not lessen it. Not that it's supposed to, but just saying. For people with mild acne this should be great.
