Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Causes breakouts
I have a sensitive oily acne prone skin. I have used tea tree remedies several times (pure oil, a face wash, masks, ...) because everyone told me it was the best remedy. NOT FOR ME!!! Every time I use it I get massive breakouts and my existing pimples become cystic. My skin really hurts and gets irritated. So be careful tea tree might not be for you, it could get worse.

Stay safe
Tee tree oil is a powerful thing. I use it mixed in with my other acne treatments. I have seen many things online where other people mix it in with masks, when it was not in the directions, and then get a bad reaction to it, claiming it was the mask. But, it was the oil. If you put on too much your face will most likely have a reaction and turn red. Use little at a time, and mix just a little with other treatments. It works to get rid of scars but make sure your skin gets used to it because it is a very powerful oil.

Irritated Skin
I tried Tee Tree Oil as a spot treatment and found it too harsh/concentrated for my sensitive skin. I had one particularly bad experience... I applied it as a spot treatment to one stubborn pimple. I used a q-tip to put a tiny spot of Tee Tree Oil on the blemish and left it on overnight. I woke up to dry, irritated skin near the spot treatment. Perhaps if your skin is not sensitive or dry-prone, give this a shot! Otherwise I would suggest trying something else. (I highly suggest diluting this with water if you are using it for the first time!!!)

Tea tree dried the f*** out of my skin
I have mild acne and large pores from coconut oil. I was on acne.org's regimen but I didn't like the BP and I did my research and leaned it was horrible for your skin in the long run. So I bumped into TTO. I mixed it with witchhazel and applied on my face as a toner. For some reason, I ditched the witch hazel and added tea tree oil in she butter as a moitsturizer. Then I stopped that and then started adding TTO on my skin by itself before apply AHA. OMG my skin is soooooooo dry now. I have oil/combination skin but I now my forehead (where most of the acne is) is so dry!! But my pores are smaller though, I noticed that. How do I get rid of this dryness plz help!

I have the same type of skin and my advice is to DILUTE DILUTE DILUTE. 8-10 drops per cup of water will work wonders. The oil is just to strong to use by itself, unless you're doing spot treatment.

Try this but for atleast a month ok.... drink a glass of water with organic apple cider vinegar 2tbs morning and night, get a clarasonic facial brush and Mario badescu glycolic foaming facial cleanser (ulta), organic coconut oil, and 100% organic tea tree oil. Make sure you eso your makeup off every night. 1. Oil cleanse- rub coconut oil all over your face to remove makeup and the wash off soap. 2. Use the spin brush with the foaming cleanser. 3. Moisturize with coconut oil and 3-5 drops tea tree oil 4. Spot treat pure tea tree oil every night as keep your hair clean so you don't get pimples around you hair line

Good disinfectant, but it didn't clear up my acne.
I began using 100% pure Tea Tree Oil when I decided I wanted to leave harsh chemical washes behind and take a more natural route to skincare. I began using it as just a spot treatment, but when I found no results after two weeks of using it, I moved on to diluting it into my moisturizer and other things. While it did make my skin feel very clean and "minty", I still was seeing no progress in clearing up ongoing and new breakouts (my breakouts are more cystic and hormonal). I figured after a little over a month of using it (and other Tea Tree products) that this method is not right for my skin. I may come back to it and try again in the future, but for now it'll sit on my bathroom shelf. I would recommend trying this product for a month to see if it's a good alternative for you, and if not, move on. PROS: - It leaves a "minty" feel on your face - While it didn't clear me up, it did "flatten" pimples so that they weren't so off-the-face noticeable - Great disinfectant - Seemed to help a little with the larger blackheads I had around my nose - Smells wonderful! CONS: - Can dry out skin if used in excess - Didn't reduce my hormonal and cystic acne, and didn't prevent new breakouts from coming in - Occasionally made my skin red and irritated - although I may have just been using a bit too much on one area

Pros:

- Very Affordable
- Lasts Long if used within moderation
- Small and Portable bottle, doesn't take up any room.
- Makes skin feel rather good.

Cons:

- Made me breakout rather than help treat my pimples
- Made the pimple a little bit more red and blotchy
- The smell is very strong

I used it for about 3 weeks, and within the first week it made my skin feel alright and actually soft, and made the pimple less noticeable but never go away. As time progressed the same pimple would come back worst than before, more red and blotchy. Its possible I had a reaction to the Tea Tree Oil or something else, but sadly it didn't do the trick for me. It's different for everyone I guess.

Clears up whiteheads, but caused more acne
I fell in love with this stuff when i first used it. My whiteheads instantly dissapeared it was too good to be true! Then i noticed i broke out really bad after using tea tree oil. When i stopped using it my breakouts were much less severe, but unfortunately i could not use this to clear them up again.

One very bad experience.
I decided to try all natural products as i wasnt getting any results with anything else. Just so you know i have oily skin. I started using tea tree oil all over my face every night and i slept in it. One week later my whole face was burning, it was red and flaky and i had more acne than i've ever had before. I refused to leave the house and it took months to restore my skin back to the way it was before. If you're going to use tea tee oil oy use it on spots you already have! I dont want anyone to go through what i did.
