Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Pros:

None really.

Cons:

Dried out my skin, cysts and scars remained where they were even after applying for over a week, not the miracle topical i was hoping for

not sure if i'm being too impatient, but after applying tea tree oil for 3 weeks, nothing seems to be happening to my acne.

Pros:

None (for me).

Cons:

Just didn't work for me...

I put the TTO on my face in the morning before moisturizing and at night in replace of my BP. I also rubbed it on my shoulders at night in hopes that it would help the scars on my shoulders (I have many allergies and when I have an allergic reaction I break out with hives/gross pimple-like things on my shoulders). Today (one week later) my skin on my face is peeling and is much worse (I broke out in very tiny little bumps on my chin and cheeks, which has never happened before). Also, my shoulders have 4 or 5 big red bumps on them :( I'm disappointed because I really wanted this stuff to work since it's a reasonable price and is "all natural". Also, as a side note, my boyfriend thought I smelled like a "mouldy basement"... However, I recommend this to some people because I'm sure it is effective for some. I'm going to go back to using BP again and will definitely try TTO in the future.

Pros:

I feel very very clean througly... and love the smell...

Cons:

As weird as it may sound, it cause me a severe breakout

I had a few minor pimples to start with, and after using tea tree oil for a week, ( i use the whole tto program from Body Shop ) things just got worse. Now i had zits on my cheek, jawline, chin and forehead. But my skin is always sensitive, so most things that suit others dont suit me well..

Pros:

None for me.

Cons:

It burned my skin.

I'm not sure why, but every time I put it on I had a really severe burning feeling. It was painful, and I ended up throwing the bottle away. I think my skin is just too sensitive for it. That seems to be the problem with a lot of things. I think you should try it though, if it burns then throw it away!

Pros:

natural

Cons:

dried skin and made it oily, acne didn't go away, strong smell

I soaked the end of a q-tip with the oil and applied it to acne and some scars twice a day. There was no visible improvement after 2 weeks of doing this daily. The smell is something you can get used to eventually, though it is strong. The oil dried up my skin and made it very oily later, even after washing it off, probably causing more pimples than it prevented. I like that it is natural, but it didn't work for me. Worked miracles for my sister however.

I decided to test out tea tree oil after using proactiv for a couple years (which worked very inconsistantly decent for me). Ive been using tea trea oil for a week, and it seems to be primarily preventing breakouts but so far it hasnt eliminated acne i had prior to using it. It definately does not irritate your skin, but occasionaly drys out my skin slightly. The smell isnt the greatest, but you will get use to it. Ive just been diluting it with water. Im not sure exactly how much TTO to put in, and water. If anyone has any suggestions on how much tea tree oil to use with water or even another product to mix it with it would be greatly appreciated.

Pros:

dries spots in a few hours of use

Cons:

doesnt get rid of persistant spots. doesnt stop spots from coming up either. bit it does reduce redness almost instantly

my spots leave really bad marks, sometimes its more the marks which are the problem then the actual acne. so its quite good.
