Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Doesn't work for me
Im using this product for the last 2 weeks and have no progress.. in the first week i used it diluting with organic virgin coconut oil, didn't help so i started using directly.. still no use, my pimples don't get reduces, scars haven't gotten better, and new ones keep coming.. I'm at a loss of what to do now, I heard good things about TTO so i thought something can finally help me but didn't work.

Pros:

natural

Cons:

dried skin and made it oily, acne didn't go away, strong smell

I soaked the end of a q-tip with the oil and applied it to acne and some scars twice a day. There was no visible improvement after 2 weeks of doing this daily. The smell is something you can get used to eventually, though it is strong. The oil dried up my skin and made it very oily later, even after washing it off, probably causing more pimples than it prevented. I like that it is natural, but it didn't work for me. Worked miracles for my sister however.

Pros:

Supposedly keeps lice away, if put in the hair.

Cons:

Since I started using a facial soap containing Tea Tree Oil, my cheeks are constantly red. I look embarrassingly bad. Figured out it was caused by the Tea Tree Oil.

Proceed with caution, unless you want to look like a radish! Seriously.

TTO doesn't agree with my skin
I have mixed feelings about TTO. I am use 100% tea tree oil, undiluted. For me it seems to work best on either cysts very early on in their life cycle, or after they have popped. It seems that it might clear out the problem cyst but more little cysts pop up wherever I put it. I don't think it agrees with my skin or I may be allergic to it, which is a shame because I like natural treatments!

Too drying
Dries out spots but also dries out skin horribly too.

Irritating
Did nothing for cystic acne. Caused the lumps to harden. Not recommended for severe cases.

Pros:

did not dry out skin, no burning, killed a few pimples

Cons:

caused like 6 cysts to develop on what once was a clear cheek

i use a eucalyptus and tea tree oil bar soap to wash my face, which works extremely well for me, however i still had a few pimples i wanted to get rid of, and some scarring i wanted to lighten. i saw the rave reviews on here, and needing a spot treatment, i decided to give it a shot. i didn't think it would be a problem, considering it's already in my facewash that i love, so i put it on as a spot treatment one night. the next morning my scars already looked lightened and my zits had seemed to go down. so i decided to use it during the day too, again as a spot treatment, under lotion and makeup. i dont know if that's what did it, but after only a few days of this, i woke up one morning and i had like 5 cysts on one cheek, big, nasty red ones. my skin had been soooo close to being clear, with mainly scarring to be dealt with, and then BOOM, breakout over night. that NEVER happens to me. the places i broke out were the LAST places i EVER tend to break out. before buying, i had read some reviews of this happening to people, but thought it wouldn't happen to me because tea tree oil is already in my face wash, and seems to work great! but apparently putting undiluted tea tree oil even only on spots somehow causes more pimples. maybe it's purging or something, i dunno. but since i stopped using it as a spot treatment, my bumps are already on their way to being gone. maybe tea tree oil is only good as ONE of the ingredients in something. NOT as the sole ingredient. i mean, the bottle even says: Do NOT use full strength on face. But stupid me did it anyways. funny thing is, it never burned or itched or anything crazy. just caused huge red bumps that covered my left cheek! ugh. it sucks cause i was soo close to being completely clear. once again, my overzealousness got the best of me. i'm learning that sometimes it's better to settle for a few zits than take a chance and jeopardize your whole face.

Pros:

None (for me).

Cons:

Just didn't work for me...

I put the TTO on my face in the morning before moisturizing and at night in replace of my BP. I also rubbed it on my shoulders at night in hopes that it would help the scars on my shoulders (I have many allergies and when I have an allergic reaction I break out with hives/gross pimple-like things on my shoulders). Today (one week later) my skin on my face is peeling and is much worse (I broke out in very tiny little bumps on my chin and cheeks, which has never happened before). Also, my shoulders have 4 or 5 big red bumps on them :( I'm disappointed because I really wanted this stuff to work since it's a reasonable price and is "all natural". Also, as a side note, my boyfriend thought I smelled like a "mouldy basement"... However, I recommend this to some people because I'm sure it is effective for some. I'm going to go back to using BP again and will definitely try TTO in the future.

Are you putting it all over your face? Because I'd recommend not doing that. Use it as a spot treatment, so only apply to the affected area. And dilute the Tea Tree Oil with water. You'll have to test out how much of it your skin can handle; for me I often had more water than Tea Tree Oil because it was so strong.

I agree with somedaymaybe; this should be used as a spot treatment ONLY. If it's not broke, don't fix it..........applying to clear skin is asking for trouble. Maybe you could use a drop or 2 mixed with your moisturiser or choice. It's worked wonders for me and has become the only thing I use to treat my acne.

No

Pros:

Works for some

Cons:

Broke me out
Lemon juice works better

This works for some people, but those of us who reacted badly, or just didn't help at all and are desperate try neem oil. works better. or epsom salt mixed with honey or even sandalwood powder and make a paste.
