Fixed my cystic acne from my other BC.
So I've had acne since I was 14, I'm 24 now. It was severe at one point. I tried multiple topicals and it would work and then come back worse. So I finally went on Acutane. Cleared my skin up to where I would get maybe two or three small pimples! I was clear for 6 years. Then a year ago I started Minastrin fe 24 for my irregular periods I've always had. It made my skin all oily again, and I had horrible cystic acne return. After 6 years! My derm said it was from too much testosterone, which increases oil production. Enter yaz. In the first week I noticed I did not get a cyst. I was getting them everyday before. It has only been two weeks, so after a few months I will update again. But it is reversing the damage my other BC did, so far so good! I did get tired and nauseous a little but that only was for the first two days. No other side effects now. I'll post again in a few months with results. 2 month update----- I'm almost done with my second month and still improving. My skin is getting less oily. I haven't gotten a cyst. I am still getting smaller pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, but not like before. So far so good!

Keeps my skin in check!
I have been taking Yaz for 6 years now and it has been great! No negative side effects for me; no weight gain, no mood swings or low sex drive. I believe that Yaz has kept my skin's oil levels under control as well as the acne lesions that occur. I skip my placebos so that I only have 4 "periods" a year.

Yaz actually helps give it time

Pros:

Clears acne
Makes skin glowy

Cons:

Normal cons of going on birth control

Ok I've tried everything: every kind of cream and gel, face washes, natural treatments, laser facials, and even accutane. My acne would calm down for a little and kept flaring back up. Nothing, even accutane, worked. Yaz is the only thing that has worked for me. You have to give it a full 6 months to work and it will completely flare up for the first 3 months. My face has been clear for a long time now and I can finally stop prowling these acne websites looking for a cure. Everyone's skin is different, but if you haven't tried it I highly recommend

Pros:

Gets rid of stubborn body acne first.

Gets rid of cystic acne.

Gives skin a nice glow.

Regulates and shortens period.

Gets rid of bloating and stabilizes mood around period.

Cons:

Only works for women.

There is a small facial initial breakout.

Clears acne slowly over 4-6 months (it took me the full six months, but it was a steady improvement).

If you stop taking it, acne returns.

Doesn't completely clear blackheads, you have to use a good SA product for that.

I am really impressed with this BC, it really did clear my skin. When I first started taking it I was broken out on my back, chest, neck, jaw, and face! It cleared from the bottom up (back, chest, neck, jaw, then face last) with everything showing improvement the whole time, even if the area wasn't completely clear. I stopped taking it for a month and some of my cystic acne has returned, so I am back on it!

Pros:

This really works! Is a great option for birth control with no side effects, except for the initial breakout that can last up to 3 months. However, if you have to stick it out for at least 4 months, you WILL see a difference in your skin!! I have horrible skin and am getting clear now, it all started with this!
You can use the generic as well, I have used both and saw no difference in my skin.

Cons:

The first 3 months are pretty brutal and will make you break out bad. And I mean bad, but if you can stick it out, it is worth it!

If you are going to try it- give it at least 4 months until you give up. I stuck it out through many embarrassing breakouts and now it works awesome! I don't break out hardly at all (also on the regimen). Try it!!!

Pros:

SIGNIFICANTLY less oil production; less acne; lighter periods

Cons:

None that I've experienced

I am 31 years old. Unfortunately, I've struggled with acne since puberty. Nothing worked for me until I got on Yaz, which I was on for years. Then I had my children, and decided to stop taking it, thinking I had outgrown my acne. But I hadn't. :( It took me two years to figure out that Yaz was saving my skin-- and when I went off it and was no longer breastfeeding or pregnant, my skin went totally haywire. Acne, and so oily. Less than 2 weeks into starting Yaz again, my face is SO MUCH BETTER!

Pros:

No weight gain (experienced this with all other pills)
Cleared up acne
Shorter, lighter periods
No pregnancy

Cons:

Boobs hurt a bit the first couple of months

I love this pill, only one that hasn't made me put on weight. Definitely worth the extra cost, I have been on it for 6 months and won't be changing any time soon! Definitely the pill for me :o)

Pros:

Lighter shorter periods
No period pain
No weight gain
No PMS or PMDD symptoms anymore

Cons:

None

This contraceptive was perfect for me, it cleared my slight skin issues and stopped me being crazy once a month. Definitely worth a try if you have PMDD or exceptionally heavy and painful periods. I hope it works for you too.

Pros:

-Brought my moderately severe acne completely under control
- I don't experience cramps during my period anymore
- I get the generic brand from my pharmacy, which makes it really inexpensive
- Decreases facial hair (I used to have to get my upper lip and chin waxed once or twice a month and no longer grow any hair on my face- I think it must be the estrogen)

Cons:

-Decreases sex drive
-Under my insurance plan, the name brand prescription is very expensive

My dermatologist prescribed this after the birth control my gynecologist prescribed, Ortho Tri Cyclen, failed to improve my acne at all. This product, when combined with usage of Retin A-Micro, has made the absolute biggest overall difference in my skin. I used to get really large cystic acne, and since beginning this prescription, I don't experience any acne at all. Under some insurance plans, YAZ can be really expensive, but the generic equivalent is just as effective. I highly recommend this to any women struggling with cystic acne. Best of luck, everyone!
