Pros:

- I didn't get pregnant, but that's only because I literally felt my libido die when I started taking it.
- Fractionally bigger breasts that hurt to touch, so they were surely useful.

Cons:

- No sex drive. At all. As in, it took care of the only reason I was taking a contraceptive in the first place.
- I broke out. Not just a little. My face was clear before I started, and two weeks later my cheeks, jawline and around my mouth turned into a warzone.
- Weight gain. I had bigger boobs, but then again, I had bigger everything despite zero changes in my diet or exercise patterns.
- Thrush. Enough said.
- Horrible, horrible breakthrough bleeding. I FELT like I was bleeding t

Okay, I know I sound really, really negative, but going on the pill did nothing for my skin. I was taking it as a contraceptive, and it worked beautifully because it made me feel so self-conscious that I didn't want to have sex. I retained so much water that I felt like a bag of pudding, and I am still struggling to get rid of it. The state it left my skin in absolutely broke my heart. Please, for the love of all that is good, if you are taking a blind guess that your acne is hormonal, have some tests done. Don't go messing with your hormones if you don't have to, because nobody deserves to go through the pain of feeling like their body has turned against them and that they have lost control. Months later I am still trying to find the love I had for myself before I started taking this pill. My skin is slowly getting back to normal. Don't get me wrong, this absolutely does work for some girls, but it works for girls whose acne is hormonal. Mine wasn't. I cleared it up for the most part with zinc supplements, a good diet, exercise and lots of water, and this set me back a thousand steps. Now I have to start again. Just know what you're getting into before you put all of your hope into it. Don't mess with your hormones if you don't have to.

Pros:

- good birth control
- thickened hair (also could be a con)
- regulated period
- short period
- minimal cramps
- lost weight

Cons:

- small pimples all over chin and jawline which i've never had before
- cysts on forehead
- moody/depressed
- anxious/insomnia
- tired
- frequent UTI's and yeast infections

I went on this pill for 2 months last year and thought it would eliminate my hormonal acne, but it didn't. So i went off it and then tried OTC-Lo which gave me terrible acne outbreaks. I decided to give this one a chance again and I totally regret it. I've been in it for 3 months and my skin is progressively getting worse, not better the way some people have said it would after a few months of perseverance. I've never struggled with skin issues like this, I would usually only get one cyst right before my period and then it would go away or the occasional pimple from leaving my makeup on at night. Since I've been on this pill my skin is a nightmare, I never see a clear day except during my period when I stop the pill and by the end of the week my skin is virtually back to normal. I suppose my acne condition is not caused by excess androgen's and therefore this pill is causing breakouts rather than curing them. Other than the breakouts I cannot handle the frequent UTI's and depression associated with this pill. All around this pill is a disaster. I just stopped taking it 3 days ago and I can see my pore size shrinking and my skin feels much less oily. However, be cautioned that your skin will breakout when you stop this pill...all the tiny pimples I had on my chin have started to come to the surface but died down and are drying out after doing an egg white mask. In conclusion, I'd rather endure one zit a month than this any day.

Pros:

- It did its job. Taken it for about a year and haven't gotten pregnant.

Cons:

- No sex drive.
- Weight gain (about 20 lbs).
- Tender breasts.
- Always tired.
- Digestive problems.
- More acne.

I decided today that I'm going to stop taking Yasmin. I've been taking it for about a year and at first I didn't really notice any kind of side effects. The only thing was a bit of nausea for the first few days of active pills. But now that I look back over how my body has changed in the past year, I hate it. I feel disgusting and tired almost all the time. And I've heard people say that people who gain weight when they're on the pill... That it's not actually the pill, it's the people taking it. But I tell you, if anything I've been eating better and getting more physical activity in the past year than I have since high school. And yeah, I didn't get pregnant, but I also never feel like having sex, which is definitely something new. Also, I never really had acne. But now it's bothersome and I feel like I should wash my face 3-4 times a day.

Pros:

not pregnant, increased libido

Cons:

caused the worst break out i've ever had in my life!

My acne was fairly light when I started Yasmin - it was the first birth control I ever took - and I regret it soo much! I wanted to go on, obviously, for contraceptive reasons, but then ended up breaking out terribly in spots I never had acne before within weeks of starting it! So I kept taking it for 3 months, since that the "trial" time, and it got worse and worse - it literally took me 2 years to FINALLY get rid of all the acne it caused - there's even still a little bit of scarring/redness now after 3 years. For the love of God, please, PLEASE, never take this pill!!!!!

Pros:

Nothing

Cons:

Caused severe acne
Extreme tiredness
Very emotional
Mood swings

I had mild acne and six weeks after starting Yasmin I have 47 spots all over my face (Yes I just counted them and can't quite believe it myself)! They aren't all small whiteheads either, I have 13 large red swollen painful lumps. I have been very emotional, crying every 5 minutes and I never cry. Mood swings have made me very irritable and angry at everyone in my life. Extreme tiredness, I have been coming home from work and going straight to bed and today I have had to call in sick. Not good for relationships, self-esteem and skin!!! I have stopped taking them in the middle of the second pack in the hope to sort out my emotions, skin and tiredness.

Pros:

Lost weight, regulated my period--never late!

Cons:

Acne, cysts, hyperpigmentation, white heads--can't get rid of them!

I started yasmin because my gyn recommended it for women with pcos. I was abroad for a few years and took pills like Marvelon 21 and Tridiol--loved both of them but they are not offered here in the U.S. The first month on Yasmin, I noticed a few pimples on my face but nothing too serious. After a couple of months I started to develop serious cystic acne that would not go away--not even with chemical peels, organic products, good diet etc.My skin has not been clear in 7 months since I started the pill. I have a weird combination of acne and dehydrated/lackluster skin, no matter what moisturizers or eye creams I use! Also, I noticed a lack in energy and enthusiasm in things I normally looked forward too. I felt my emotions were becoming really unstable---Honestly, this pill made me feel like I was bi-polar..up and happy one moment and down and depressed (even angry) at the next turn. (I'm talking about crying at memories, simple arguments with loved ones, feeling overwhelmed at daily work routines etc.) I'm getting off of it this month and giving another pill a try. I would have gotten off of it earlier but I was advised to give it at least 6 months. My doctor said she was really surprised to hear I didn't do well on it because she claimed most of her patients do well on this pill. It's good to see by reading this board that I'm not alone!

Might cure your acne and cost your life
I was on Yasmin for 7 years and it cured my acne 100%, but I could have died because of it. Hormonal treatments might seem like the easy and fast solution for an acne cure, but trust me - it's not worth it. Besides horrible side effects of depression, weight gain, mood swings, headaches etc, this is one of the worst birth control pills out there that can give you blood clots. I got pulmonary embolism last year in both of my lungs because of Yasmin and had to take blood thinners for 6 months. (No genetic tendencies in my family.) I have two friends who also got pulmonary embolism because of Yasmin. I am now on Finacea topical gel and Zinc which work great. I know this is a short review, and if you have any questions write me a message.

Pros:

Clear skin

Cons:

Headaches, made me depressed, and really dries the skin especially the lips.

I have had acne for about 12 years now. My acne has ranged from moderate to severe flare-ups throughout. Having tried so many types of topical treatments (including bp), skin peels and antibiotics with temporary successes here and there, i finally decided to try the pill. i was put on diannette, which cleared my skin up completely but the dr said i couldnt take it for more than the 1.5 yrs i had been using it. so he switched me to yasmin. it maintained my clear skin. however instantly i noticed that my skin became a lot drier. my lips began to take on this horrible grainy texture. i also lost a lot of weight but i think that was mostly because the pill wouldnt allow my body to retain water. i also suffered a huge amount of hair loss (about two-thirds) and felt depressed a lot of the time. after about 9 months into it, i made the decision to STOP cold turkey as i no longer wanted to pump my body full of unnatural chemicals. it's now almost been 3 months. post-pill side effects so far have been really oily skin and hair! if i touched my face with my hands, i seriously had enough oil on them to give myself a good moisturising! also my hair was dripping with oil by the end of the day - pre-pill my hair could go 2 days without washing!! i also started to get painful red bumps around my mouth/chin area and a lot of white heads - the dreaded post-pill break out!! i've been quite lucky with my periods returning, although others havent been so lucky. my moods are back to normal and i am so relaxed lol. so anyway now im taking 75mg of zinc gluconate and 3000mg of EPO every day - which seems to be working quite well (but will save that for another post)! Natural is the best way forward. Clear skin is not worth the damage that this pill will cause to your body!!

Pros:

- Regular, short periods

Cons:

- The usual birth control pill stuff: I started crying once a day, my acne got worse, I gained a little weight.

Did not work. For some reason hormonal birth control just doesn't seem to be good for me.
