my experience on ocella-generic version of yasmin

Pros:

less acne- but still gets some pimples
fuller, wavier hair
lighter periods

Cons:

doesn't fully get rid of acne, but does help
a little weight gain just a little though maybe 3 lbs
occasional moodiness

About three years ago I got the Mirena IUD put in and this was the worst thing to ever happen. Right after I started getting horrible break outs and I never broke out in the past. So finally three months ago I go it taken out. My gyno recommended that I get on the pill because it helps with acne. So I started taking ocella (generic version of yasmin) my skin has been a little rocky and is no where near perfect. I'm about to go into my fourth packet and I feel like my skin isnt the best it could be. I am going to wait and see but I am tired of feeling self conscious about my skin!

Pros:

Not pregnant
Clear-ish skin
Lack of hunger (see nausea)

Cons:

Nausea
Frequent pee-ing
Mood swings (uncontrollable anger, random bouts of sadness)
Low sex drive
Headaches
Anxiety

This is my second time back on Yasmin. I was previously on it for 6 months, but by the end of it I was an raving hysterical monster so my husband (who prescribed it to me) said "no more hormones" and that was that. I'm back on it again again, much to my husband's horror, after I developed nodular acne from Retin-A. It's only been a few weeks, but tbh I don't see how I can carry on taking Yasmin for much longer. I feel nauseated and low every day but just have to tough it out because my skin situation is unbearable. Yasmin has worked wonders for many other girls I know, but sadly, it's not for me (not long term anyway!). I paid £15 for a 3 month supply, no prescription fee.

Pros:

Bigger breasts, less acne, less cramps and of course no pregnancy, thicker, nice hair.

Cons:

weight gain (!) period last 7 days (!) instead of my normal 3-4 days. Has done nothing yet for my pmdd, but haven't been on it long enough, bit nauseated

So far so good, I am not happy at ALL with the weight gain and the loooong period though! But I heard that sometimes the body needs to adjust. I am trying it a bit longer. For acne it worked like a charm, it got a bit worse in the first month, but now it's clearing up. And my hair is awesome!

Pros:

Regulates period, Balances hormones, clearer skin

Cons:

Taking a pill everyday, Not cheap (even with insurance), Takes a while for results, Possible initial break out

When I had my baby over a year ago my face was frightening. My hormones were wacked, and it lasted even longer cause I breastfed. I had never had such terrible skin in my life. I had tried Yasmin in the past for a couple years and remembered that my skin was pretty good while on it. The minute I stopped breastfeeding I got on it and couldn't wait to get help. After a few months I started to break out less and less and now I am clear. It takes time to work and you have to have patience. There is no miracle product that will cure you overnight. Obviously this will only help if your acne is hormonal related. Use this and a good skin care regimen and it should really work for you.

Pros:

YASMIN: No weight gain, clear skin, no increased appetite before period, no bag break outs before period. Never got bloated!
OCELLA: Cheap

Cons:

YASMIN: $20 for me.
OCELLA: Hell. ACNE, BLOATING, INCREASED APPETITE. Need I type more?

The last 3 months my pharmacy gave me Ocella (without informing me! And of course I'm not the one who picks up my pills)... Well I loved Yasmin, and still do! OCELLA has made my face look like a battlefield!!! The week before my period I want to eat everything in site now, and the acne is awful due to the switch. I know they say it's the same thing but it isn't! I left a review before on Yasmin, now this is my review on its evil twin Ocella. I've become a bitch again due to being stressed out about my god awful nodulous craters on my face! I feel like I'm on Ortho Tricyclen again. Do not accept OCELLA if they try to give it to you. I haven't had acne like this since Seasonale.

Pros:

No weight gain; regular, light periods

Cons:

Acne much worse
Spotting with 1 missed day

I took Yasmin to treat my acne and it made it so much worse. I was very discouraged. Definitely not for everyone in terms of acne treatment. Otherwise, minimal side effects as far as OCPs go.

Pros:

minimal weight gain

Cons:

severe headaches, skin tags, loss of sex drive

I was never prone to headaches before taking this product. I took Seasonale before, but a friend said this was better for skin and weight regulation. My weight did not go up more than a couple of pounds. My breast size remains about the same. My skin has never been this rashy and broken out in my life. I am going off.

Pros:

Improved acne (50%), regulated hormones, less cramping.

Cons:

Expensive!

This is the first birth control pill I have tried, and I am a virgin so I am using it only to control my acne. I am 21 and have had (apparently hormonal) acne since I was 12. I have been through two courses of Accutane, both of which cleared me while I was taking it but the acne always returned. Yasmin does not prevent my acne but regulates it. For two weeks I get almost no pimples and have beautiful skin. For the other two I break out like crazy (although my PMS breakouts aren't as severe as they used to be...Yasmin makes it so that I can pinpoint the days I will start and stop breaking out!) I used to have moderate acne every day of the month. It definitely helps, but I think I might add spironolactone to ease the PMS acne. At least I know for certain the cause is hormonal! Also, I am down to 93 lbs. While some OC's make you gain weight, I've lost about 10 lbs on yasmin. I've suffered no side effects, and aside from the price it's a great pill.
