Pros:

Skin is totally clear.
Hair is thick, despite horror stories of thining hair on yasmin.
No noticeable weight gain.
Regular, short periods.
Effective contraceptive.
When the odd spot comes it tends to go quite quickly.

Cons:

My skin did get worse for the first two months of taking Yasmin. It took a few weeks to get used to this pill. To start with I had mood swings, and I felt a little bit sick at times. It was worth continuing with as after three months my skin was so much better.

I am 25 years of age and, unlike so many poor teenagers, my skin had never been bad before. Last November (just in time for Christmas!) my skin went totally bonkers. Large, red bumps appeared on my forehead. They started like little pimples but eventually they spread into angry sore patches. I had general spots on the rest of my face and nothing seemed to make them go away. My face became very sore to touch and unsightly, which affected my mood and I found it hard to do my job with confidence (I am a teacher). A month later things were not getting any better. I went to the doctor after Christmas who said it was just hormone induced acne. He put me on Yasmin and gave me a topical solution (Zineryt) to calm the redness. The first thing I did was google 'Yasmin Acne' and there were plenty of bad reviews online, which made me feel rather disheartened about starting my first pack. However, I took the doctor's advice and thought I would give Yasmin a try. Having now been on it for ten months, I have to say that I am very glad that I did. At first, my skin did seem to get worse. It may have been a reaction to starting a new pill, or simply the fact that my skin would have got worse whether I had been taking a pill or not. I did experience some initial side effects, such as a fuzzy feeling in my head, and the occasional sicky feeling, but these were short lived after a few weeks. Gradually my skin began to clear up, and then suddenly it got better very quickly. The redness and the lumps seemed to fade, and spots became far less profound. My skin is now clear and smooth (touchwood). The deepest acne has left a bit of scarring on my forehead, but it can be covered with a little bit of powder. For me, it seems to have really worked. My advice to anyone who is thinking about trying Yasmin is to give it a go for at least five months before you make your mind up. Do stick with it if you decide to give it a go. I am so glad I did.

Pros:

- I didn't get pregnant, but that's only because I literally felt my libido die when I started taking it.
- Fractionally bigger breasts that hurt to touch, so they were surely useful.

Cons:

- No sex drive. At all. As in, it took care of the only reason I was taking a contraceptive in the first place.
- I broke out. Not just a little. My face was clear before I started, and two weeks later my cheeks, jawline and around my mouth turned into a warzone.
- Weight gain. I had bigger boobs, but then again, I had bigger everything despite zero changes in my diet or exercise patterns.
- Thrush. Enough said.
- Horrible, horrible breakthrough bleeding. I FELT like I was bleeding t

Okay, I know I sound really, really negative, but going on the pill did nothing for my skin. I was taking it as a contraceptive, and it worked beautifully because it made me feel so self-conscious that I didn't want to have sex. I retained so much water that I felt like a bag of pudding, and I am still struggling to get rid of it. The state it left my skin in absolutely broke my heart. Please, for the love of all that is good, if you are taking a blind guess that your acne is hormonal, have some tests done. Don't go messing with your hormones if you don't have to, because nobody deserves to go through the pain of feeling like their body has turned against them and that they have lost control. Months later I am still trying to find the love I had for myself before I started taking this pill. My skin is slowly getting back to normal. Don't get me wrong, this absolutely does work for some girls, but it works for girls whose acne is hormonal. Mine wasn't. I cleared it up for the most part with zinc supplements, a good diet, exercise and lots of water, and this set me back a thousand steps. Now I have to start again. Just know what you're getting into before you put all of your hope into it. Don't mess with your hormones if you don't have to.

Pros:

Cleared my acne 98%. no more mood swings

Cons:

Some slight weight gain, and sore breasts

I have had acne since i was 17, i am now 32. Not, omg, I got a zit! acne, but cystic acne where my face has turned red and purple because of it. Quarter sized cysts at times! I have massive scarring, deep rolling scars. Yasmin cleared it 98% I only break out during the placebo pills and it's about 2-5 pimples at once! The rest of the month I'm clear. This compared to 20+ pimples every day of my life. The bad: It made me gain some weight, about 5 lbs., but for me that was fine as I wear a size one. I put it under CONS only because many woman don't like the weight gain. My breasts are always sore but trust me sore breasts over acne? The acne I had? I'll take it anyday. I recommend try it, especially if you have severe acne. What have you got to lose?

Pros:

- good birth control
- thickened hair (also could be a con)
- regulated period
- short period
- minimal cramps
- lost weight

Cons:

- small pimples all over chin and jawline which i've never had before
- cysts on forehead
- moody/depressed
- anxious/insomnia
- tired
- frequent UTI's and yeast infections

I went on this pill for 2 months last year and thought it would eliminate my hormonal acne, but it didn't. So i went off it and then tried OTC-Lo which gave me terrible acne outbreaks. I decided to give this one a chance again and I totally regret it. I've been in it for 3 months and my skin is progressively getting worse, not better the way some people have said it would after a few months of perseverance. I've never struggled with skin issues like this, I would usually only get one cyst right before my period and then it would go away or the occasional pimple from leaving my makeup on at night. Since I've been on this pill my skin is a nightmare, I never see a clear day except during my period when I stop the pill and by the end of the week my skin is virtually back to normal. I suppose my acne condition is not caused by excess androgen's and therefore this pill is causing breakouts rather than curing them. Other than the breakouts I cannot handle the frequent UTI's and depression associated with this pill. All around this pill is a disaster. I just stopped taking it 3 days ago and I can see my pore size shrinking and my skin feels much less oily. However, be cautioned that your skin will breakout when you stop this pill...all the tiny pimples I had on my chin have started to come to the surface but died down and are drying out after doing an egg white mask. In conclusion, I'd rather endure one zit a month than this any day.

Pros:

Regular periods, good birth control, noticeably larger breasts, 95% clear skin

Cons:

Truthfully, I didn't really experience any so far

I have been battling acne since I was around 16 years old and I am now 23. Last September, I began grad school and experienced the worst acne I've had to date. I had cystic breakouts along my jawline and my chin that were so painful I couldn't sleep on my side because the pressure was so painful. I went to the doctors and was prescribed Yasmin as well as miocycline at the same time because my face was so severe. 8 months later I can finally say that my face is nearly clear except for the scarring that the cysts left on my face. My confidence level is very high and I feel like a completely different person! I no longer lock myself in my room crying because of the physical and emotional pain. And most importantly I am not embarrassed to be around my family who used to tell me to wash my face properly (which I always did!). I am not longer taking minocycline and will continue with Yasmin as long as I am happy with the results. If you are at rock bottom like I was, I think it is worth a try... it worked for me but everyone responds to treatments differently and you may have a better or worse experience. I was so desperate that I had nothing to lose and it was all worth it to me because I am confident now.

Pros:

lost a bit of weight
skin is clearing up after getting worse initially
shorter period

Cons:

initial breakout
must be patient to see results

yasmin is proven to be a great BCP for acne. Over 9 cycles it has been shown to be just as good as diane but it is much healthier for you and you can be on it forever, it is for the treatment of MODERATE acne not mild or severe. If you switch from another BCP to yasmin it is very likely your skin will flare up the first month or two while your body adjusts to the new hormones. It has been proven to work IF you give it time to and of course if hormones are the root of your acne problem. if something else causes your acne you may not see significant improvement. If you get on it be ready to commit to letting it work. too there are far too many reviews on this site saying it made acne worse after they have only been using it a month or 2. you must be patient!

Pros:

Better skin, statistically reliable birth control

Cons:

Fatigue, slight nausea

I just wanted to post here because I'm having a decent experience on yasmin, and I've noticed that a lot of the posts are extremely negative. Because it's a hormonal treatment everyone's response will be different. My skin was terrible before I went on yasmin, but literally by the second week I am seeing drastic results. The first couple days my skin did seem to get a little worse, but I figure it's because all that residual gunk had to come out some way. I'm really relieved and pleased with the progress I'm seeing. So for all you ladies who haven't seen results with any non-hormonal treatments, I'd give this a shot. I was a little tired the first few days but that seemed to pass. I also have experienced a loss of appetite. Overall the side effects I've experienced with this contraceptive are way more bearable than any other pill I've tried. Try it out. Don't be scared.

Pros:

Clear skin (with Tetracycline)
Regulates my periods

Cons:

Absolutely none!

Ladies, I suffered with acne since I was 13. I'm 21 now and the severity of my acne increased over time. I went from having one or two pimples every week. To 6 or 7 every day, without fail. I've used almost everything under the sun: clean & clear (in 2005), proactiv, acne free, baking soda, cetaphil, lemon juice, honey, and different antibiotics. Nothing worked for me. Few years ago, I found out that I have PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian syndrome. It's a hormonal disorder that causes ovarian cysts with a list of side effects, one of which is acne. Yasmin has been found to be the most effective for this and so with consultation with my endocrinologist, I tried it. I've been using it consistently for about 4 months. My dermatologist also put me on tetracycline, an antibiotic commonly used for acne. Yasmin & Tetracycline are my acne fighting machines!! Holy crap. My skin has never looked so good! It took about 3 months for my skin to show improvement. I can't tell when last I had a real pimple or cyst! It is absolutely amazing. I've dreamed about having clear skin and now I have it. Even the texture has changed, it's so beautifully smooth and radiant! I would recommend this duo to any girl who has acne. Definitely talk to your doctor about it, cause it worked for me. I also use Clean and Clear Continuous Control as my daily face wash. That stuff is the truth! For the odd time I get a small zit (which is probably once a month), it's gone within a day or two and no scar! I used to live in concealer - covering acne and scars. Now I'm proud to show off my radiant skin. Even though I use Yasmin in conjunction to antibiotics, I think it would still work wonders independently. Anyway, there's hope for you ladies! I thought I would die with acne. Now, I can celebrate renewed skin! Everyone's skin and body is different, but I'm confident it will work for most people. Please visit your doctor and ask about Yasmin and Tetracycline! Don't give

Pros:

Clear skin
Larger Breast
No Weight Gain

Cons:

Tender Breasts

I decided to try this even after reading all the awful reviews because everyones body is different. I'm 25 almost 26 and suffer from AWFUL cystic acne. It is so painful and I've tried everything from UV treatment to antibiotics. I decided to give birth control a go even though I'm completely against it. (cause in the past it made me moody). But my skin was causing so many more problems. This prescription is expensive but worth it. It started clearing up my skin in a month. I'm on my second month and I keep seeing it get better and better. The cystic pimples are gone and it isn't causing pain. Now i"m working on ridding myself of the scars it left. Which face peels work wonders for that! My fiance and I also noticed my breasts got significantly larger. About a cup size, although they tend to get tender almost swollen like. But its nothing that isn't bearable. I haven't had any weight gain and my sex drive has actually increased. I love this pill!!!
