Pros:

after about 4weeks my skin looks clear...minor breakouts. doc says that it will take more then 8 weeks to see total results.

Cons:

i was on accutane a few years back and it worked..to many side affects and the pipmles always return. solodyn works but you must be patient :)))

besides accutane ( which i really dont want to go on again...it eats your liver, etc... ) i have tried EVERYTHING!!!!! i think this pill is a new advanced medicine that can work if you give it some time....really! i have not experienced any side effects besides some dry skin and i already have major dry skin. give it time :))

Pros:

Drying out large cystic pimples on chin
Saw results in a week
Minimal side effects
Easy to take

Cons:

Making my face a bit dry
A little fatigue first couple days of taking but goes away

I am a 23 year old female and I have been suffering with very bad and painful hormonal cystic pimples on my chin. It was very frustrating when one would pop up right after another. My dermatologist gave me a number of topical prescriptions but none of them seemed to be doing anything to help. He then prescribed me 55mg of Solydyn and I have been taking it for 6 days now and I can already tell it's been helping to dry out my large pimples. Everyone is different so I would not be so hesitant if you are considering taking this as I was pretty worried about all the negative reviews, but I have been giving it a go and so far it's not so bad :) It is true that when you first start taking it, it pushes all of your pimples forward so it can get rid of them fast, so for a couple days I had several all at once on my chin, but that is just because the medicine is working and is pushing everything out and clearing underneath your skin. Also, I live in Illinois so it's very dry and cold here in the winter which is a cause for the extra dry skin I'm having along with Solodyn, but there's a multitude of lotions out there to help. All in all, this has been a so-far-so-good medicine for my acne and I am anxious to see what it will do within the coming weeks. Good luck everyone!

Pros:

This medication worked well for me. I have a co-pay of $35, which I got back in rebates from the maker of Solodyn, Medicis. Without insurance, it is very expensive.

Cons:

BEWARE!!! The side effects that only happen to a small percentage of people, happened to me. Minocycline drugs can cause drug-induced hepatitis. Drug makers neglect to tell you that. Even if only a small # of cases, if it happens to you-its not good

My derm. started me on Solodyn after several topical meds that failed to work. Solodyn worked great for me. HOWEVER... recently I applied for additional life insurance, had a physical & was rejected due to liver enzyme levels being 5x higher than the normal range. I went to my PCP, who refered me to a liver specialist out of Loyola Hospital in Illinois. They have a "liver team" at Loyola. Before my first appointment, I researched this online & found other cases of this happening from the use of Solodyn. I immediately stopped taking the drug. I told the specialist what I suspect had caused the liver enzyme elevation. He ordered several tests & a series of blood tests. I went back today for my follow-up & found out I had drug-induced hepatitis from the Solodyn. Because I caught this so early on, the condition reversed itself & I no longer have it. My doc told me not everyone is that lucky. PLEASE monitor your liver enzyme levels if taking Solodyn. My derm told me it was safe.

Pros:

Clears skin!

Cons:

tiny bit of dizziness
It gets worse before it gets better

I've been using this product for a month now and my acne has gotten better but not where I want it to be yet but I'm getting there! My family has said they have seen it clear up but this isn't the type of product that will work in 2 weeks. In fact the first 2 weeks for me my acne did get worse but I get that because that is tottaly normal so dont just throw it away because it has to get all that junk in your skin out! I have really high hopes of this product and cant wait for the months to come.

Pros:

Cleared up acne

Cons:

Joint pain, headaches, muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, swelling

When I was prescribed the medication I found it worked well it cleared up my acne but I began to have muscle and joint pain, weakness, fatigue, swelling after going to the doctor I found that I had drug induced lupus from the medication. Although rare it was quite unpleasant and I will never take that medication again. But my experience is a very rare outcome.

Pros:

Clears up severe/cystic acne.

Cons:

I don't know if I will have to rely on this pill and keep taking it for a long period of time to keep my skin clear.?

I like this pill. I used to have bad acne but now my skin is good. I've been on this pill for 3 months now and it cleared up the acne on my face and chest. I haven't had a big painful pimple in 3 months and for me that seems like a long time. I just wonder how long I will need to stay on this pill without becoming dependant on it. My dermatologist also said this pill was expensive so I feel bad for my mom to have to keep paying for it for me. But having clear skin has changed my life for the better.

Pros:

Any new pimples are much, much smaller and go away in a day or two without scarring (unless you pick them of course).

Cons:

Gives me headaches if I don't drink enough water.

You won't see much of an improvement until you've been taking it for a couple of weeks, like any other medicine. At first its not a drastic improvement, but my skin is better than before I was taking it so I can't complain, i've only been taking it for three weeks, so we'll see. I take Solodyn every night before I go to bed and I take Vitamin E and A in the morning, and it really, really helps.

Pros:

cleared up skin, is easy to take

Cons:

when i went off of it, my skin went crazy

this was the one antibiotic that worked for me.... but whenever i would go off of it, i had huge flare ups. im finally off it now, and dealing with the effects, and hoping they'll get better. i would recommend it, but not for a lengthy period of time because 1) you have to get blood drawn to make sure your liver is functioning (it can damage it) every 6 months or so 2) your body gets used to it and acne gets worse after you stop
