Pros:

None! Hasn't done anything for me!

Cons:

Second and third week I got terrible headaches very single day, and got really tired in the middle of the day. That stopped within the fourth week though. Has not done anything for my acne, if anything made it worse.

Have been using it for 7 weeks, will give it 1 more then swicthing to Doryx.

Pros:

Didn't make me sick or anything.

Cons:

EXPENSIVE!
Didn't work.
Made things worse.

I used the 90mg pill once a day for 3 months and just got negative results from it. It made my face even worse, gave me pimples on my body where I usually don't get them, and I think made the pimples more inflamed. I use BP once a day and just started taking Zinc. I'm going back to my old treatment for Doxycycline.

Pros:

cleared up small zits

Cons:

makes me very thirsty, is extremely expensive

I've been using this product for about a year and a half now. When I first started using it, my skin improved so MUCH. My face used to be covered in tiny, under the skin zits, with the occassional big, red nasty ones. While the small ones are gone, I still get the big ones. Also, I found that whenever I went off the medication for a week or a few days I would break out really terribly, which makes me afraid to go off it completely at some point in my life.

Pretty ineffective
I have severe cystic acne and took Solodyn for about a month. It might have helped decrease some of the pimples, but did very little for the inflammation of my cysts. If your acne is not severe or cystic, it will probably work for you. If it is, you'll probably need something stronger.

Pros:

Got a coupon from my derm so that it would only be $10/month, so I didn't waste a lot of money

Cons:

Made me VERY dizzy~had to take at night and then still got dizzy/vertigo feelings. After taking for about 3 weeks my joints started aching~very annoying and can be a sign of drug-induced lupus. Acne got worse.

I took this for about 4 weeks total and had to stop taking it due to how crappy it was making me feel. I couldn't handle the side effects and I already feel so much better after about a week of not taking it. I did not see any improvement in my acne (and actually it got worse), but like I said I only took it for 4 weeks. My derm. prescribed me 135 mg, but looking at Solodyn's website I should have been on 90 mg based on my weight, so perhaps this is why I had so many bad side effects so soon?? Either way I am not willing to use any dose of this product again; the aching joints really worries me. Definitely be cautious with this product!

Pros:

I guess it cleared my skin a little

Cons:

VERTIGO!!!! I was so so dizzy. I seriously had to call my doctor, thought I was going crazy. This drug, or the dosage did not work out for me, bummer. Anyway, if you feel this side effect call your doc immediately.

Got prescribed from doc for mild acne, am 35 and just had a baby 9 month ago, so hormones are at play. He gave it to me, I was aware it made you drowsy, but holy cow I was REALLY out of it. SO I took the next dose at night and it still the following day was like I was spinning. So I stopped. NOw I am fine. Used the card thing that made it so cheap for first three months. If it works for you, use it, but if you have what I had call your doc.

Pros:

I've yet to find any pros.

Cons:

It's just not working. I've been on it 2 months. My skin wasn't that bad to begin with--I probably shouldn't have taken pills.

BE VERY CAREFUL before you agree to take pills. I'm about at my wits end. I've been using it 2 months, but after my first script, I was out of town and went a day or so without refill. BAD IDEA. DO NOT SKIP DOSE OR YOUR FACE WILL EXPLODE. It took me a few weeks to recover from that, now all the sudden my face has exploded again for no reason. I don't know what to do. If this stuff doesn't start working in the next month, I'm getting on accutane.

Pros:

Did clear up stubborn, large red lesions that had resisted other treatment

Cons:

Major severe lupus-like side effects that I am still dealing with 4 months after stopping the drug. Lupus = extreme fatigue, joint pain, light sensitivity, anxiety. Also have had "iritis" twice -inflammation of the iris in your eye - hurts badly!

I would NOT recommend this drug to anyone. I am a mess and worried that some of these issues could be permanent. I was very normal and healthy before - no issues other than the acne and I'll take that any day over this. The rheumatologist I am seeing says she has seen minocycline drugs do this to people "too many times" and she would never take one herself or have her children take one. That should tell us all something. I only wish I'd known that ahead of time so I could avoid this nightmare.
