Why did you change the formula?!

I first tried Acne.org in 2015 based on the glowing reviews I saw on YouTube and I definitely was not disappointed. It completely cleared my skin with no issues. I was on a limited budget back then so I tried to substitute this routine with similar products and while it somewhat kept my acne at bay, it wasn’t the same. I was able to repurchase in 2018 and got the cleanser, BP and Glycolic Acid minus the moisturizer (because I found one that I enjoyed). Progressively my skin got dry because while the moisturizer I was using up to that point helped control my oil, it wasn’t enough to keep it hydrated while using the Acne.org products so my skin was clear but dehydrated. I finally decided to get a travel size version of the Acne.org moisturizer in 2021 and OMG I was blown away! My skin was hydrated (but not too oily), my texture improved, it paired wonderfully with my sunscreen and wore amazingly under my makeup. My mom and sister even asked what I was using and I told them about the system, which they’ve started using. After testing the waters with the travel sized moisturizer, I decided to get the 8 oz bottle of this magic in a bottle and boy was I disappointed. The first thing I noticed was the difference in color and the texture, but I didn’t think much of it. When I put it on, it was the weirdest experience, it almost foamed up (for lack of a better word) while you applied it and took forever to absorb. I could just feel it sitting on my skin which I hated and even worse was, again, my skin became dehydrated. I examined the ingredients on this bottle along with the one I had before (the travel sized one) and while they were the same, the experiences were wildly different. This newer one was a lighter yellow color while the one I liked was a darker yellow color. The newer one was more of a gel formula and blended horribly while the one I liked was more of a lotion and blended beautifully. I only had a few more uses left out of the travel sized bottle so in a desperate plea, I contacted their customer service to see if I could get a bottle of the moisturizer I got a few weeks ago and was informed that sadly, the formula had changed. They seemed pretty dismissive to my request so I considered that a dead end. My next best option was looking for it on another website and bingo! I found a seller on Ebay with the formula I liked so I secured a bottle. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it but sadly I’m running out. I placed an order for my sister which included the travel size glycolic acid and saw that the product is now white which means the formula changed again. I figured if the formula for the glycolic acid changed then the moisturizer did as well and it couldn’t possible be worse than what it is now. Boy was I wrong. The pale yellow moisturizer was bad but the white moisturizer is even worse! It’s the oiliest product I’ve probably ever used and my face burned when using it. If you have even remotely oily skin DO NOT PUT THIS ON YOUR FACE! I tried using just a bit and I’m grease ball. My makeup also looks horrible and I have to blot every hour. I’m also getting more breakouts than despite everything in my routine being the same (Acne.org cleanser, BP & Glycolic Acid (which is thankfully still yellow)so needless to say, irritated.

I appreciate your dedication to skincare, most of your products are amazing and has helped my acne tremendously but you “fixed” something that wasn’t broken when you changed the formula for the moisturizer. If you have any of moisturizers with the darker yellow color laying around, I would LOVE to take them off your hands. Or you can simply change the formula back. Even if no one else buys it, I definitely will cause it’s the best moisturizer I’ve ever used. Until then, the search continues on ebay.

Now I’m sure of it

Something has changed in the ingredients and I came to confirm on their site and now I’m sure it what has been giving me an allergic reaction of rash and itching on my face near my mouth and my neck. I’ve used the moisturizer since 2016 and as of recent I begin to have reactions and had no clue why. I stopped using everything for months and kept it basic with vanicream wash and moisturizer only. I went back to try the glycolic lotion, which I believe contain the same ingredients as the moisturizer and surely my face developed the same reaction within ours. Unfortunately, no more of the moisturizer or the glycolic lotion for me, had to trash it. That sucks bc it used to work so well. Also to note when this happens it takes time for my skin to heal and it’s quite annoying to need to care for my skin to return to its normal state when this happens. The rash gets really stained and drying. I hope it doesn’t take longer to care since I noticed it right away as the culprit instead of consistent use as I did before realizing the problem.

New formula is absolutely horrible

I have reliably been using this product for 4-5 years, and it was the only moisturizer that didn’t irritate my skin or interact with any of my other products in a negative way. To the founder, you keep telling people that have used this product for years that the change in the formula is too small to cause all these new negative effect; maybe you should just accept that this was an unnecessary change to an other wise perfect formula. I have no skin allergies, and haven’t reacted to poorly to your moisturizer for years. With this new formula, my skin is half as moisturized, and I broke out in small whiteheads bumps all over my face, which has NEVER happened with another moisturizer or your old formula. Would not recommend this. And for someone who understand how sensitive acne prone skin can be, it’s quite ridiculous for the founder to tell people that changing the extract and adding 2.5 times the amount won’t affect how the lotion acts on skin. And I actually observed these horrible effects before reading that the formula had change, so it’s far from a placebo effect.

Why can’t you offer the old moisturizer

I started using the new version of the moisturizer around Christmas time. My face has never been more dry. I understand some people didn’t like the color of the old one, but why not offer both?

This moisturizer is the only one I’ve found that works well and now I’m going to have to start the horrible process of trying to find something comparable.

If the new version has cheaper products then make the old version and charge more. Those of us that love the old one would gladly pay a few dollars more.

There must be something else going on that's making you dry. The moisturizer is identical except for a different extract and that would not change the moisture level.

Sometimes at this time of year when heat is at full blast, or people are traveling to other parts of the world where climate differs, they can become more dry. Also, sometimes people will start using more benzoyl peroxide or some other product that dries the skin and this can cause increased dryness. The bottom line is you'll want to look for another cause of your dry skin. I order ever ingredient for the moisturizer and can tell you that it has not changed in any way that would alter its ability to moisturize.

Good thought, but nothing else has changed.

Thanks for the reply, but I’m very disappointed. In the change in product and in your dodging response - which seems to be the same response you’ve given everyone.

I’m sure there’s a reason for the change, but it doesn’t make sense to not offer both when you’ve added so many products through the years.

He isn't really dodging anything. What he said is true. The change of the one ingredient wouldn't do anything to effect the moisturizing ability of the product. I have used all three versions of his moisturizer and the new is definitely the best. I have not experienced any difference between the second yellow one and the new white one. It's the same except now I no longer have to worry about getting it on white t-shirts or pillow cases etc.

Old moisturizer- awesome! No issues. New ingredient moisturizer=terrible dermatitis (chemical burn like effects)

Using this product for maybe 10 years, all good, no issues. This newly updated moisturizer causes terrible face burns and swelling. /profile/1-dan/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="1" href="<___base_url___>/profile/1-dan/" rel="">@Dan, please change the ingredients back. Seeing all the other reviews helped me narrow down what was causing my issues recently.

Hi. I'm sorry to hear this. I assume you're talking about the moisturizer now that it has a slightly different form of licorice root in it. People can have an allergy to any ingredient, but an allergy to the new type of licorice root I put in there is exceedingly rare. It's one of the reasons I am excited to be using it. However, nothing else about the product has changed, so perhaps you are allergic to this particular type of licorice root. Stop using it right away of course and proceed with a different non-comedogenic facial moisturizer.

Also, think about if you possibly used any other product recently. Since allergy to the new licorice root I put in the moisturizer is so rare, you want to make sure you're not reacting to something else in another product you're using.

I commend Dan for addressing so many of these bad ratings and concerns for so long before they just became rampant. Everything he said is true and only makes sense. Not literally everyone is having this experience. I was actually not even aware anyone was having an issue until I updated my account password and started looking to review and see reviews of products. I was going to rate this product a 5 star, but I already had done so LOL

CAUSED WEEPING ECZEMA

I’ve used this regimen some years back and loved it, ran out and never repurchased. I decided to order it again because I loved it so much and two days after using it I had extreme dryness, itching, weeping all over my face, and swollen eyelids. Skipped the BP thinking that’s what it was and added loads of moisturizer little did I know that’s what cause all of my problems to begin with! I’ve never had dermatitis before, and was too embarrassed to go to a DR. because of how my face looked. I was miserable! Just in case anyone is having this problem I wanted to share what I did that helped literally overnight!

First make sure to wash your pillowcase and sheets after stopping the products, next OATMEAL MASK - literally just oats and water to make a paste and put it all over your face, feels amazing! Let it dry, I left mine on for about an hour. I did 2 times a day if I could. Rinse with warm water. Moisturize after.

For moisturizer I used BABY aveeno eczema moisturizer cream. I applied it with a very thick coat during the day if I was home, and reapplying if needed. And again a thick coat at night after washing my face. Works wonders!!!

Hopefully this helps and works for others that are going through the same thing because of this product.

New formulation caused horrible dermatitis

I am so heartbroken that the moisturizer in the regimen now is causing a huge case of dermatitis! I have been using it for 8 years, but several months ago a bought some new bottles and this moisturizer has changed. It is causing burning, itching, and seeping blisters on my face. I am so disappointed.

Same thing happened to me, what did you use to cure it?

Itchiness and Flaking

Lately I've found that the moisturizer is drying out my skin, especially near my eyes, chin, and neck. I have extreme itchiness and flaking. I'm not sure if I'm suddenly allergic or if it's because of the formulation change that other reviewers are discussing. So many others have the same issue, so I can only assume it's the formulation change.

Absolute Nightmare!

For over six years I've been a loyal customer of Acne.org, I do appreciate the treatment and cleanser you guys make, it did solve my skin problems and helped maintain my skin at okay condition. But this moisturizer, allow me to be honest, has been a COMPLETE NIGHTMARE since the day I started it.

It creates dryness, redness and itchiness around eye area, neck and other sensitive part of skin. It gives me the wrong idea as I'm not applying enough so I'm having the dryness, by applying more, dryness will be gone, isn't it the purpose of moisturizer? After increasing the potion, what's worse, I'm starting to have eczema like symptoms! I went to see the a dermatologist in a big hospital, and was confirmed to have eczema based on the symptoms, I took pills and applied special treatment to soothe the symptoms.

Based on my trust in Acne.org built up from so many years, I never thought about the core cause being the moisturizer product. But after my eczema symptoms was gone, I started apply the moisturizer again, and guess what, right 2nd day, all the symptoms, the redness, the bloating, itchiness are coming back again! That's when I realized what a great role this moisturizer has played in this nightmare.

I read other customers' reviews and found I'm not the only one here, it seems to be a popular problem, and for the record, it surfaced quite a while ago. I am not blaming you guys for making mistakes, who doesn't, but hey, why are you not responding to it? Do you know the kinda of hell I've been through, I can't focus on life, on work, can't spend quality time with family and friends for what? For the fact you added in some synthetic ingredients to keep this moisturizer on the shelf for longer?

I'm truly disappointed, and you are losing a once loyal customer. I wish people read this before hit 'buy' and make a sensible decision.

Dan, please address these reviews

I don't normally write reviews, but I too have recently been having eczema-like symptoms all of the sudden over the past several months, and I believe it's a result of this moisturizer. I have never experienced this before in my life. It is especially bad around my eyes and temples and on one side of my face near my cheek and jaw line. I don't know what else would be causing this as I don't use the BP (or any other product) near my eyes, only the moisturizer. The only other product that touches my face is cleanser. I don't use any makeup or any other products. I love Acne.org's cleanser, but I have been using CeraVe due it being cheaper. I usually order a bottle or two of Acne.org cleanser when I order BP and then use CeraVe when I run out. I have used Acne.org products for probably 10 or more years. By the way, I used to love the old moisturizer. I was extremely disappointed when the formula changed. I still don't understand why they haven't changed it back especially with so many poor reviews. Please change it back! Regardless, I have been using the reformulated moisturizer ever since until now after realizing it was causing eczema. I threw the rest away and will not be ordering again. I switched to CeraVe moisturizing cream. Dan, please address this as it's dragging the whole brand down and really reducing confidence in all of the products. I see review after review with similar issues and complaints with zero response from Dan or Acne.org.
