Everyone was impressed after just ONE microdermabrasion session.
My skin condition pre-microdermabrasion: Oily skin, clogged pores, occasional breakouts, post acne marks/scars, fair skin tone I got a free microdermabrasion session from a lucky draw, I didn't know what is it about so I googled it. Since it's free, why not give it a try. Result: So right after the treatment, my face became slightly red/pinkish (similar to facial extractions), and the doctor applied sunscreen on my face. A few days later my skin has improved dramatically, the redness on my nose has reduced, the mild acne marks/scars on my cheek has reduced to ALMOST non-existent. But after looking at the reviews, one thing I can notice is that microdermabrasion will result in 3 different groups. 1) Instant improvement after one session [ME] ; or 2) Improvement after multiple sessions i.e. 7-12 sessions; or 3) became worse. ***In short, it really depends on how your skin reacts to it. If you already tried many others methods like me, why not give it a try. If you already have a good skin condition, better not, as you might make it worse/aggravate. Key takeaway: 1. After doing it, minimise sun exposure (wear sunscreen, hats) 2. Don't use makeup, let your skin heal/recover from it. 3. Not every clinic/ dermatologist are the same. (Really depends on how your well your doctor does it for you) 4. Of course, home microdermabrasion will not yield as good result as going to a doctor who has the expertise in this field. 5. Microdermabrasion is considered non-invasive. You can actually search up on youtube to see what's microdermabrasion. 6. Some people might say they've done 5 treatments in 2 years. Based on doctors' recommendation, you should do every 2-5 weeks to see effective results, not 5 treatments in 2 years.

It really did help my skin
I had a microdermabration and extraction 3 days ago at my derms office and it definitely help improve my skin texture. If you have a lot of clogged pores and oily skin i recommend it. There really is no down time if done correctly.

Pros:

1. makes face smooth and soft
2. reduces red spots and hyperpigmentation from pimples
3. usually comes with a facial or a mask if you do it at the spa

Cons:

1. does not totally reduce acne pigmentation unless you go for a series of treatment
2. cannot wear foundation for the rest of the day
3. can be costly ($75 - $150 per treatment)

I struggle with the scars and marks left after the acne than the acne itself. I get pigmentation very easily from anything that happens to my skin: sun, chemical burn, heat burn, and allergic reactions. I've done chemical peels and the mini luminage peel before. I prefer microdermabrasion over these since there is no chemical involved and there are less risk of scarring. Even though they call chemical peels "lunchtime" peels, your skin doesn't heal until a week afterwards and the mini luminage takes a month. You do experience slight flakiness after a microdermabrasion treatment, but it's nothing like what you would experience after a chemical peel.

Pros:

- quick results
- painless
- reduced blackheads, whiteheads, and pore size

Cons:

- a little dryness, redness, and flaking (3 days)
- sensitivity... STAY OUT OF THE SUN! ...they aren't kidding about this.

I've always exfoliated/used a clarisonic, but have really problematic hormonal acne at age 26 (embarrassing!) Micro has been awesome for me; after recovering from just one treatment, my skin looks WAY clearer and younger, while feeling smooth and soft. I have really persistently clogged pores, and this produced amazing results pretty immediately; I got teary the first time I looked in the mirror. Make sure you get this done at a clinician's office... my dermatologist's office has an aesthetician on-staff who performs this and other services, and I think this really cuts back on the risks associated with an under-trained aesthetician or tools that haven't been sanitized. I would also check with a doctor before getting this done, because it IS pretty intense, and if you have a bad reaction to it, I'm sure it could lead to discomfort and maybe scarring. The aesthetician I went to also told me it's important to go to a place with updated technology... they had a diamond-tipped tool which is supposed to be more effective and less irritating... I have no idea if this is actually true. I'm not sure about the claims of reducing fine lines (I don't have any) or stimulating collagen production... but my scars are lighter and my skin is just so much better looking. I do not experience cystic acne, nor do I have icepick scarring... just superficial scars and enlarged pores due to swollen spots and blackheads/whiteheads. Again, it's only been a week since my first treatment, but every morning I wake up and my skin looks better... I can't wait for my next installment next week.

Pros:

Smoother Skin
Relaxing
Decreases Acne
Exfoliates

Cons:

Slight Dryness Afterward
Can Be Painful with Large Lesions
Expensive

Hands down, if you can afford this treatment, do it! My skin has never looked more clear or felt so soft after just several treatments. Currently I schedule one treatment a month, but I like to bump it up to two for special events. Certain areas of the face may become dry afterward, such as around the nose or the mouth. I am very fair skinned and besides having large cysts, suffer from the awful hyperpigmentation left after the lesion has healed. Microdermabrasion lightens these areas much faster than at home exfoliation.

Pros:

- Effective in removing top skin surface layer.
- A very quick one hour procedure that can be done during lunch break for those working full-time.

Cons:

- Montly treatment can be very costly.
- Can be an unpleasant experience, ie can hurt a little, especially at areas where skin is inflammed and sensitive, fine sand crystals get into eyes, nostrils, ears.
- May leave your skin feeling sore, raw and look red and blushy afterwards.

I would recommeded this only to those with light to zero acne. I used to go for microdermabrasion treatments every 2-3 months when I had very little pimples and it had been very effective in improving my skin's texture (smooth, soft and glowy). This was the time when I had the best looking complexion ever in my life since I started getting acne. I am currently on antibiotics and Shiseido to treat my severely moderate acne condition and will definitely get back to microdermabrasion treatments when my skin has completely cleared up.

Pros:

• Costs next to nothing.
• You're in control.

Cons:

• Takes a while both during and for the overall treatment.

My review is about a DIY I've been doing for six months. I spent $100 on a crystal microderm which left me looking awful for a few days (worse than post-Fraxel). So I researched this new Vibraderm that everyone is raving about. Vibraderm uses an abrasive paddle that gently buffs away layers. I thought, "So do those $3 exfoliating gloves at the drug store." I bought a set with really basic 2% Sal. face wash and got started. Every Friday night, I wash my face normally, put some wash in the gloves and buff away. After a few minutes of gentle buffing (it stings a bit) I wash once more and apply a lotion when I get out. (If you see dots of blood you went too far.) Right away I noticed that newer dark spots were right at the surface and glowing bright red. After a day of mild redness (I could barely tell) I noticed that my nine-year old scars were already a bit faded. I've been doing this for about six months; "slowly but surely" it's working. Try it. If it sucks you only wasted $10.

Pros:

Reduced scars, even ice-pick scars; resulted in smoother & healthier skin for better overall texture, tone, & complexion—after just 1 treatment! Not invasive, inexpensive—in Thailand, at least—safe on ethnic skin, no real side effects—not eve

Cons:

None, not even redness. Remember: microdermabrasion is a procedure that needs to be thoroughly & meticulously researched by YOU, before you take that "first step." Make absolutely certain that you are a potential candidate—or you'll end up unhappy.

I'm from New York, where the same $150 microdermabrasion can be performed at a fraction of the cost in Thailand'"blame the IMF, UN, and Bush's cousin Obama for this. I have superficial scars and a few deeper scars from adolescent acne that I wanted to minimize. After my procedure, I went to the mirror anxiously and to my surprise'"and delight'"my skin looks great! However, if you have much deeper scars, try MicroLaserPeel, which is like a microdermabrasion on steroids; it goes deeper but still not too invasive, anywhere from 10-80 microns deep, though 20 is the norm. As for downtime, the microdermabrasion is known as "The Lunch-time Peel," whereas the MicroLaserPeel is known as "The Weekend Peel." You can infer that the downtime for MicroLaserPeel will be about 2-3 days, more for deeper peels'"CIA Google for more info. I wanted to write this post after my 6th treatment but I got too excited after my first, so I will provide another update after my final treatme

Pros:

It's great to use as a maintainance tool. It clears out a lot of dead skin and your pores without the harshness of squeezing. I recommend once a month.

Cons:

Can be pricey depending on who you go to. Shop around.

As i said I recommend this as a maintainance tool every month to get a thorough cleaning of your face in terms of dead skin and whiteheads and blackheads. Depending on you facial sensetivity use with caution in terms of how frequent its used. Some places I paid $100, but i found a better place for $50 and great specials when you pay up front for multi sessions. This new place cleans your face and puts on some pretty good lotions. Don't think this is a magic pill that will solve it all. Continue you regimen and keep your face moisturized and blot
