Pros:

*The first thing that has noticeably and consistently worked for me.
*Fairly easily accessible

Cons:

*Needs to be high quality
*Takes time to work (or it did for me)
*Not an instant cure, give it at least a month
*None that outweigh having clear skin!

I have fought with acne since I was 12, but at 18 it basically exploded. For the last 3 years I have tried to kick this thing but have had no real success. Improvement started when I began using flaxseeds (also containing omega 3) and with the addition of fish oil about 3 months ago, the difference is truly remarkable. My skin has continually gotten better, and my nearly severe acne and horrid skin quality is now almost normal looking. I started with less and upped the dosage to the current 4 1000mg pills per day, though I may raise this as it seems to do only good. My skin is still not perfect, but with these pills and eating oily fish several times a week my skin is better than I can remember. My scars heal with time and although I still get some tiny blackheads and little white pimples in my trouble areas, I am fully confident that I will soon be acne free. It is worth noting that this did take time, and was not an amazing, clear-in-one-week, instant cure though this may be because my hormones are particularly out of whack. Make sure that it is a high quality fish oil. Although they are cheaper, basic ones from drug stores may be just that; cheap. Try to find something from a natural foods store that is of a better quality and I think it makes a big difference (I take wild Alaskan salmon oil). I also eat very healthy so that may also help, but bottom line: this has worked for me and virtually cleared me of years of acne and acne scars. Well worth a try I'd say!

Pros:

One type cleared up my acne.

Cons:

Another type from the same brand made it worse.

I bought Spring Valley 1200 mg with 360 mg of Omega-3 (EPA+DHA). Without reading the instructions, I began taking them one softgel per day. The mild acne I used to have was gone. After 2 months, I read the instructions. It said you are supposed to take 3 a day. I don't want to take 3 a day. So, I went and bought the more potent one a day version from the same brand. Spring Valley "Triple Strength" 1400 mg with 900 mg of Omega-3 (EPA+DHA). I started taking them one a day. Within 3 days, I saw a couple of pimples. I thought it can't possibly be fish oil -- it must be someting else. But, as long as I took fish oil softgels I kept getting more acne. Every fish oil review I have read states that the Triple Strength version goes through much higher quality processing and is better for you than regular strength. But, the cheaper, regular strength version from the same brand, taken in smaller than recommended dosage was what worked for me.

Pros:

It is affordable and easy to take. It helps improve the skin condition. Further, it reduces the risk of heart disese and it increases recoginitive function. Nothing but gain.

Cons:

None

I got very adult acne as I am almost 50 years of age. I felt so bad everytime I got breakout as I am old even I don't feel that old. Recently, I have got severe acne for the last 3-4 months. I was so deeply depressed. I started taking 2 capsules of O-3 (~600mg) 3 times a day. Like everyone said, I (and you) got nothing to lose. I have been taking O-3 for ~4-5 weeks. Now I do not have any severe acne. Some were trying to break out, but they disappeared within 1-2 days with no pain. I also take zinc complex (Vitamin A,Zinc, and D) just 1 a day. Now I can tell that my skin is a lot better. So I think I have found the right cure for my long suffering from genetic hormone issue. I strongly recommend O-3 to everyone especially one with hormone issue. Please also do not give up taking O-3 with a short period. It may take sometimes to see the good result. Nothing to lose but gain.

Pros:

helped clear my acne, hyperpigmentation and leaves my skin alot smoother and less oily.

Cons:

none as far as i can tell

I've read several reviews on here with people saying this does not work, but most of the people do not know how to dose fish oil properly. If done correctly it can do miracles for your skin. I use NOW ultra omega 3 which contains 500 mg of EPA and 250 mg of DHA per capsules (one of the most potent fish oil formulas on the market at a cheap price). I take 4 of these with spread out through the day with my meals or snacks. EPA is an inflammatory and for most people to notice any kind of a difference in their skin (especially those with more severe acne) I would suggest getting in atleast 1.5-2 grams/ day. I guarantee atleats 80% of the reviewers here that is giving fish oil a bad name is using cheap, low concentrated fish oil capsules and are simply not getting enough EPA into their bodies to notice any dramatic difference. I've experimented with different dosages already, at 1 gram my acne calmed down alot, but i would still get occasional pimples, at 2 grams of EPA now daily, I haven't had any new pimples for around 2 weeks. Bottom line- make sure you get enough EPA and DHA into you daily (2g/1g) -buy an ultra concentrated fish oil like NOW ULTRA OMEGA 3 -take capsules with meals to improves its digestion, dont take them all at once or some of the acid will not get absorbed. -GIVE IT TIME, it will take atleast 2-3 months to really start noticing dramatic changes in your skin, health, and well being. DO NOT rush this process, it does work.

Pros:

Improvement of mood
Improvement of breakouts
Less scaring

Cons:

Indigestion

I have been using fish oil for two weeks, and I can definitely say there's an improvement on my mood, and an improvement on my acne. I can focus better, my face doesn't scar as much, and my mood has been more balanced than before. I definitely recommend fish oil for someone who's looking to improve their acne, or for someone who's looking to improve their mood! The product I use - Finest One-Per-Day Fish Oil - has definitely helped me out greatly!

Pros:

-Gave skin glowy look
-Made skin smooth and moisturized
-Got rid of whitheads and small acne

Cons:

-Made me break out terribly! I only took this for a week but it made me break out in 10 massive cystic pimples on my chin, I usually get one in a week!
-It's supposed to regulate hormones but I found my moods swinging and had a lot of anxiety while taking this

The bottom line is I think this product should not be recommened to those with hormonal acne. If you predominatly get cysts on your chin I would never take this product!! I know my acne is hormonal and I know taking this fish oil is what caused me to break out like I never have before. The cysts it caused were very deep in the skin and extremely painful. As soon as I stopped taking it I had no new breakouts. I believe if you have acne that is not caused by a hormonal disorder fish oil could work, it's beneficial to health and may help some. If you have hormonal acne, please take my advice and stay away from this supplement! Try taking some zinc (50mg a day) and drinking lemon water and green tea, this has helped my skin recover faster from the horrid effects of fish oil.

Pros:

Cleared up my eczema
I a lot more healthy since taking the fish oil caps
No fishy after taste or "fish burps"

Cons:

I haven't seen a reduction in my acne

Started taking these when I heard how amazing fish oil is for skin. I have pretty bad adult acne right now for the first time in my life. I also suffer from eczema all over my face (around my eyes, on my chin and down my neck) I have been suffering from eczema for the past two years and seemed to be spreading all over my face and at exactly the same time, I started getting sever acne. So I started taking fish oil and within a month all of my eczema as cleared up. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for my acne.

Pros:

Soft hair and skin. Face is almost completely clear. Skin less oil. Happy mood.

Cons:

Really bad skin purging at first. Sometimes fish burps.

Well I've been struggling with acne for about 15 years. I'm hoping fish oil will completely clear me up. So far good results. I've only been taking this for 2 weeks and feeling positive. I started taking the Nature Made brand. It has 720mg omega 3 in 2 softgels meaning it only has 360mg omega 3 in 1 softgel. Doesn't list the exact amount of EPA/DHA. There may be a lot of fillers. I read for good results you must take in about 3-4 grams of omega-3. So I took 10 of these softgels per day equaling to 3.6 grams/day for about a week. Initially my skin purged in which I expected because I have a lot of acne, the cystic kind. Then towards the end of the week the cysts started to get smaller and breakouts less. Cost me about $10 for 100 softgels. You can buy in a drugstore/grocery store. New week now...I decided to take Arctic Pure Ultra Potency Omega3 Fish Oil. This one I got from a health food store. In 1 softgel it has EPA 450mg, DHA 340mg plus other omega-3 60mg equaling to 850mg of omega-3. WOW!!! So far, I love this one! I only have to take 4 softgels (3.4 grams)/day. My hair and skin feel amazingly soft and skin is definitely clearing up. I hope it keeps doing that. Only bad thing about this brand is it cost me $35 for 120 softgels so I only have a month supply. But It is so worth it. In this brand I believe in better results. The fish oil is molecularly distilled, high EPA & DHA content, and less fillers. For those of you afraid of skin purging, don't be!!! It might last for a week or 2 but once you get past it...you'll have great skin. I'm speaking to myself too...LOL.

Pros:

Healthy hair, skin, and nails
Clears moderate acne
Good for the brain
Good for cardiovascular health

Cons:

Tastes bad

If you really want to get rid of your acne, don't use fish oil capsules. I recommend a liquid version. The texture is kind-of gross, but fresh and unrefined fish oil, especially cod liver oil, has much higher amounts of EPA, DHA, and Omega-3. All these are great for your skin, hair, brain, and heart. Also you don't have to deal with swallowing a huge pill.

Pros:

Made my hair shiny, my nails grew like crazy, and my skin softer.

Cons:

It made my acne worse, although I had soft skin, it made me break out with cystic acne, LOTS!

Had some helpful effects, but overall was horrible for my acne. Before taking this product I had only had probably 2 Cysts in my entire life, and this made me get them like CRAZY! And they are such a pain in the butt.
