Pros:

gets rid of whiteheads and blackheads, specifically on the forehead

Cons:

irritates skin, makes skin red, makes red pimples more prominent and worse, causes scars to take significantly longer to heal

Ziana definitely attacks acne, but there is a huge catch. I was initially prescribed Ziana to cure the whiteheads and blackheads that were stubbornly appearing on my forehead. For that, it worked great. In fact, I should have used it for solely that purpose. In a follow up appointment, my dermatologist recommended it for my whole face. Bad idea. I had pretty mild acne on my cheeks and chin, but this stuff made it a whole new ballgame. I am just weening myself off this stuff and realizing that it made my acne worse in these areas. Might as well have not used anything. Good drug for what I said it cured, but otherwise, forget it. On paper a combination of retinoid + antibiotic should work well, but for whatever reason the results for this medication are mediocre. That's pretty much the gist of it.

Pros:

Goes on easily
No odor
Didn't dry out my skin
Comes in a large tube that lasts a long time
Got rid of large cysts

Cons:

Significantly increased the oiliness of my skin
Takes a long time to work
Still get some pimples

I didn't get the dry, red, flaky skin that others have been talking about when using this product. I didn't get that at all actually. What Ziana did was greatly increase the oiliness of my skin overall - yuck! I had oily skin to begin with and now when I wear make-up I have to blot every hour. I have been using Ziana for about 12 weeks and haven't had any large cysts during that time, but still get random pimples that don't come to a head. They annoy me. Oh well.

Pros:

Works well. Huge tube for free with coupon.

Cons:

Price after coupon is outrageous. Causes diarrhea for many people. Dries lips a little.

Great product if you have no side effects. My girlfriend used this once for her acne as well and had horrible diarrhea. I used this with minocycline. It may make your acne much worse if you use it alone. Even with the combination, I started getting minor bumps in places I have never had acne. After about a week or two those went away and my skin is better than it has ever been after 9+ years of acne. If you need more than one big tube it will cost something like 500 dollars. Even if you have decent insurance, why do you think premiums are skyrocketing? People buying things like this with their insurance without considering the cost.

Pros:

Clear gel and dries quickly

Cons:

Dry/flaky skin

My acne was bad and got progressively worse after I started this medication. I have HUGE bumps on my cheeks and jawline that make up draws more attention to. It's only been a few weeks but I don't see any improvements. My doctor said the cocktail I'm on (Doxycycline, Clenia and Ziana) will get worse because its "flushing the impurities to the surface". This is my 3rd time on this medication, all my doctors insist on giving it to me, after I've said time and time again that it didn't work.

Pros:

Theoretically, it's a nice combo treatment - antibiotic + retinoid

Cons:

Did nothing to clear my acne
Expensive

Used this some years ago when I was living down south - it was prescribed by my GP who had no idea about skin but said lots of his patients liked it. It did nothing for me and was expensive, so I stopped after a few months.

Pros:

didnt take long for it to clear my skin
didnt really break out like i thought i was going to
brings white heads to the surface
really smooths out skin
skin feels/looks soft and smooth
clear gel
large tube that lasts for a long time
heals popped pimples faster

Cons:

skin is really oily
cant go in the sun too much
still get a few small white heads/pimples randomly and occassionally
dries skin
havent had any bad side effects
no spot treatment?

ive been using this for almost 3 months now. i was surprised that i didnt break out as bad as i read others did (purging) but it was just normal acne for me. it actually started clearing up in like 1.5 - 2 weeks. my skin looked and felt smoother. i just wash my face with olay face wash and then apply 15-20 min later only a pea-size amount like it says. i read somewhere to apply it like 20 min after u get out of the shower/wash ur face or it causes more drying of the skin. i also put on neutragena moisturizer in the morning. definitely such an improvement. not perfect but pretty darn close. def happy with the results. no more worrying and stressing about pimples and how to cover them! :) its also really cheap with my insurance and the card they give u. and the tube seriously lasts forever. annnnd its clear gel unlike some of the other products i use where they r white and i walk around at nite with white stuff all over my face. anyways, i love it :) and def am so glad i got on it!

Pros:

- Stops cysts in their tracks as far as size and pain goes.
- Has made my skin very glow-y and bright

Cons:

- Even though it stops the cysts from forming and becoming painful bloody messes it still leaves a little bump that takes a week or so to go away.
- Hasn't improved my regular acne at all, even after 12 weeks. It will clear up for a bit but flare up again.

I've been using this for about 12 weeks and although it's definitely improved the appearance of my skin in general, I can't say it's improved my acne (which is mostly small, deep zits without a head that I've had for YEARS.) It's definitely worth it if you're prone to painful, cyst-like pimples. I haven't had one since I started using.

Pros:

Actually helps

Cons:

Oily skin
Smells like oil

I used ziana gel for almost a year and a half an I still use it. My skin has really improved even though I still have acne. The main reason I started to use ziana gel was because I had so much acne on my forehead an now I have nothing there. I suggest not putting it on not affected areas. If you put it on your cheeks and nose, it will bring up new acne. My nose is now the most affected area and then there is just one cheek which is affected. I also suggest using a cleanser such as neutrogena oil free acne was, the cream one.

Pros:

It clears skin within 3 weeks!! And I still get one or two around my period but hey, that's normal! I use this Ziana with a prescribed wash and medication. So they also have factors in the clarity of my skin. It costs about $500 without a prescription. But luckily my parents have great insurance and we only pay $20 per tube. The tube and the tube is quite large.

Cons:

It drys out skin if you use too much. You the amount the doctors tells you to. If you do have dryness use olay sensitive skin oil free lotion on your face it takes that oilyness right way, without clogging your pores. FYI it works great for people with oily skin because I have oily skin and it's perfect. But back to the product it also makes my face a little red but I cover that up with a quick dab of powder on my red areas.

I extremely recommend this product because it is absolutely an agent that help me have no acne of my face.

Pros:

The best topical treatment (in combination with other prescripts) I've used yet. During the purging cycle, the antibiotic keeps my painful cystic acne from becoming the full blown nightmare that other tretinoins have produced. Has smoothed some older scarring.

Cons:

Purging does occur. Face is always reddish now. Skin can get flaky, and is much rougher. Some old scars seem to have gone white & really are very noticable against the overall ruddy color I now have.

Also, without insurance, the price is insanely high in my area.

I have suffered with large, deep acne cysts for many, many years. The last tretinoin I was prescribed left horrible bulging cysts the size of a quarter and terrible scars. Some surgical removal was required. When my dermi prescribed this, I thought I was in for more of the same. Instead, the cysting stayed minimal and my face has really cleared up overall. I still get large deep cysts from time to time, but this is really the first topical that has kept things from really spinning out of control. My biggest problem is the price. My insurance won't cover it because I'm over 35, and that's just wrong. After all these years of suffering I've finally found something that helps and they won't cover it. It costs $410 a tube here. My dermi is giving me samples, which I greatly appreciate, but I still have to buy a tube every so often.
