Really does work! just give it some time
I was prescribed Ziana when I was 16 (now I am 21) I had mild to moderate acne and has tried everything under the moon to get rid of it, prescriptions and drug stores. When I started using Ziana when I was 16 I don't remember having any bad purge period, it kept my black heads to a minimum and I would only get occasional pimples. For a short period of time when I was 20 I did not have insurance so when I ran out of Ziana I was SOL. After a few months of being off Ziana I noticed my black heads coming back EVERYWHERE! When I finally got my insurance back again a couple of months ago I decided to go to the dermatologist to get another prescription for ZIana. After using it for a couple of weeks I experience a REALLY BAD purge. I am talking like 10-15 cysts on my face. Every time I got rid of one another 2 would pop up. This occurred because the Ziana was bringing up all of my blackheads to the surface that I had acquired when I was off the Ziana. I am now on my 4th week back on Ziana and I am almost 100% clear!! The number one thing to keep in mind about this product is to BE PATIENT and to not get too worked up over the purge period. It is also important to use the right face wash and lotion. I use CeraVe foaming wash and cetaphil lotion. Hope this helps!

Great stuff!

Pros:

Inexpensive - $35 for a large tube with the manufacturer's coupon (lasts much longer than one month)
No long term side effects (no short term for me either)
Easy to apply and use

Cons:

Oily feeling on skin in the morning after having used at night (easily remedied by washing)
Could make skin worse before it makes it better (I did not experience this but was warned)
Occasional tightness/dryness (nothing that is not remedied by a little moisturizer)

After stopping birth control, I developed acne unlike any I had ever had in my life (including my teenage years when I had mild acne - I am currently 37 years old). I knew that my hormones would take a while to get back to normal but after two months of dealing with a completely acne covered face (bumps all over as well as a few cysts), I went to the dermatologist who prescribed this. I have somewhat sensitive skin and had used Retin-A in the past (teen years). It had dried out my skin and made my acne much worse before it got better, so I was skeptical. I use this once a day at night after I wash my face. In the interest of full disclosure, I also use PCA Skin acne gel in the morning after I wash. Additionally, I use a light moisturizer in the morning after the acne gel dries. (FYI - My doctor had suggested I start out using this every other night, but I didn't need the adjustment time as my skin was SO oily and I did not fear it getting too dry.) This drug has worked wonders for me. After 5 weeks, my skin is 99% clear (a few very minor bumps - pretty normal for me on or off birth control), and it looks better than it has in years. My doctor had said that my skin could get worse around the 4-6 week mark, but I have experienced an overall general improvement as the weeks go by. The box insert said a worsening of the acne around 2-4 weeks, and I didn't see a major improvement until about 4 weeks, although I didn't think the medicine ever made my skin worse at all. I would highly recommend this to anyone with acne for whom Retin-A, alone, is too drying. The added benefit at 37 years old is that I might see some improvement in skin tone and prevention of wrinkles:)

Pros:

This product isn't messy by any means, it actually works, it doesn't take what seems like FOREVER to clear up your skin, it doesn't smell bad, and it's cheap if you have insurance (if not it runs for 1,000 dollars from what I was told). It also works day AND night. Works better if you put it on before you sleep though.

Cons:

When you leave it on for about 10 minutes, it becomes sticky which I hate. When I wake up there's things from my pillow stuck to it in patches where it was on my face. Other than those things, nothing else is bad.

It's helped a lot with my acne. I tried EVERYTHING (and I'm only 15). But I'm also using about 4 different things to keep my skin clear and I think my skin is becoming dependent on all these things... not good considering I use very expensive stuff and we go through tough times quite a bit here. It works in about a week, and keeps it clear with multiple uses throughout the day when I'm home and once at night. I recommend for anyone who can afford it/has insurance. GREAT PRODUCT.

Pros:

Hormonal Acne clearing
Calms redness
Stops new acne from forming
Clears current acne
Great alternative to birth control

Cons:

None so far!

I'm 31 and my acne has progressively gotten worse... I finally went to see a dermatologist who said that I had 'hormonal acne' on my cheeks - which is something that no salicilic acid or toning or cleansing of any sort can clear. He started me on this as well as an internal medication called Spironolactone- and my skin looks SO different just after one week. This product is light, doesn't smell, and goes on smoothly. I didn't find it oily at all compared to other reviewers. I also have had no redness/drying from it. The product has delivered EXACTLY what it should. The best part is that it feels like my 'live' pimples are finally *dying* - as if the feeling inside of them that gives them the 'pop me! pop me!' sense- is no longer there. VERY happy with this product- and thankful for it!!

Pros:

Bottle lasts for a long time.

Cons:

-Rather Expensive without rebate card
-Turned Acne breakouts slightly more severe.
_Didn't work as i had hoped/expected
-Doesn't sink in to skin well enough.

Every morning when I woke up and looked in the mirror, where i put the ziana gel i saw a glossy shine covering it, pretty much clogging pores. After 2 weeks, I actually noticed a pretty substantial improvement :) (this was also while taking Solodyn). However, about 5 weeks in, my skin plummeted to levels un-seen before. I had worse acne then I ever had. I got humongous white heads and even a few cystic like pimples. I immediately stopped using it and proceeded to use a very drying face soap (due to intensified levels of oil) and i used bactroban cream as a spot treatment. It luckily cleared ziana's mess. So I wouldn't really recommened this.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Initially used this only every other day as prescribed by my dermatologist but it still left my skin very dry. After a few months, I started using it very consistently and it made my skin worse than it's ever been! My breakouts were red, inflamed and painful. I kept hoping things would get better but after several weeks I just stopped altogether. I just started using an OTC benzoyl peroxide cream and that seemed to clear up some of the damage. I'm now using differen gel so hopefully it works.

Using ziana turned my mild acne to moderate/severe acne.

Pros:

A little goes a long way.
1 step, once a day
Kinda expensive

Cons:

Didn't help much with acne
non-Stop purging
very drying

Here's my acne story. Around October, got a really bad break out while using Proactiv. Switched to Murad. Made everything worse. Went to dermatologist. Got Ziana. Cleared up the effect of Murad, but didn't help with any acne that i had before Murad, so now I'm back to square one. Ziana has something in it called retin-something lol that causes skin to purge. It is supposed to stop after a while, but my face never stopped purging. It also dried me out really bad, even though I used a heavy moisturizer twice a day too. This product didn't work for me, but it has been a miracle for one of my friends. Everyone is different. If your dermatologist prescribes this, try it. :) P.S.- I am a 14-year old girl. Thought that might help since adult and teen acne IS different.

Pros:

Works well
Easy to apply
Doesn't seem to bleach fabric

Cons:

Dries out skin
Smells funny

I really like Ziana gel. I get acne all over my body, not just on my face, so I can use this product without worrying about my clothes becoming discolored. I use it with Zaclir body wash, so my skin is always a little dry, but over all, I'm very pleased with this. It takes a while to work, but the results are worth it.

Pros:

so easy to use and lasts for a long time. takes a while to work but with consistent use, you'll see your acne start to clear.

Cons:

PURGING. red marks seem to last longer.

i have been using ziana for exactly 2 months today and my face has really cleared up. My main problem spots was my forehead, cheeks, and the sides of my mouth. You have to be VERY patient because this stuff purges your skin, or at least it did mine, so i broke out SO BAD the first month but now my skin has calmed down and i really only have 2, small active pimples. My forehead is completely clear, my cheeks are slowly but surely getting there. Stick with it, it gets worse before better but before you think about quitting make sure you at least give it a chance to work. I'm also on Solodyn and using Triaz 6% foaming clothes but i think the ziana is what's making the difference.

Pros:

worked fast. face is clear and looks amazing!

Cons:

very dry at first and now a few dry spots that face lotion cures.

I can't believe how amazing this product is! I used to get bad hormonal acne around my mouth. After reading all the reviews, I was SO SCARED to use Ziana but it cleared my face entirely in 2 weeks. I will get a small pimple every now and then now but it goes away in a day with Ziana. Doctor gave me a coupon so it was cheap. I am so happy!
