Pros:

Exfoliates, Smoothed skin

Cons:

Didn't work, messy

I mixed the baking soda with honey and applied it to my face for 45 minutes as I sat in the tub. It was a good thing I was in the tub because some dripped off as the baking soda started to work. In the end, it left my skin smooth, it was very relaxing and didn't hurt because of the honey, but it didn't tone down redness or clear my problem areas. I would recommend it for a weekly mask but not a solution to your acne problems.

Good for extreme breakouts
When I get a horrendous breakout I use a baking soda face mask for 5 minutes, before bed, and when I wake up in the morning the spots are virtually gone! Despite this I would be careful because baking soda is gritty it can irritate the skin causing greater oil production. Because of this, I only save it for extreme breakouts.

Pros:

-cheap
-easy to make
-stayed on well enough

Cons:

-made skin feel grainy
-skin not noticeably softer

I would recommend this if used sparingly. I left the mask on for about 5-10 minutes, and it seemed to be doing its work. I washed it off with a soft washcloth and warm water. My skin felt tight and grainy, not something enjoyable! If you want your skin to be wonderfully hydrated and clear, I would recommend using Noxzema every day, as well as a light moisturizer.

Please be careful
I used baking soda for a while and I believed it was doing wonders, it left my skin smooth and it didn't make my face feel too dry. But unfortunately baking soda just isn't the right pH for our skin. Our skin is slightly acidic, and baking soda is much too alkaline, which leaves our skin defenceless against bacteria. Now, I know for some people baking soda works great as an exfoliant, and it is much better to use baking soda than a harsh apricot scrub, for example, and if you are switching from a harsh acne scrub to baking soda, you will certainly see some improvement. But, my experiences have lead me to believe that any "scrubbing" product is bad for acne prone skin. For a long time I was an over-exfoliator, I would use baking soda twice a week, I thought it was great, but eventually it broke me out horribly. By scrubbing at your skin you are creating lots of tiny microscopic cuts on the surface and huge amounts of irritation, which is detrimental to acne. At the end of the day, you cannot scrub your acne off your face, contrary to popular belief. Your skin will be much happier, and healthier if it is kept at the correct pH, using a gentle and nourishing skincare routine. Please, please be careful if you decide to scrub at your skin!

Pros:

Brightens Skin
Exfoliates Well

Cons:

SENSITIVE SKIN BEWARE
Broke Me Out In Tiny Red Dots All Over My Face! Which Makes My Acne Appear 20X Worse :/

I was really hoping that this would work, but it did nothing for me but cause more problems. I think to use this method you'd better have pretty hefty skin it is definity not a great option for someone with sensitive skin! I wouldn't say that its a horrible method I just think it probably only works on people who do not have sensitive skin. So try it if you have normal skin, but for my fellow sensitive skinned people beware. :O

Pros:

Clears skin up a bit
No harsh fragances
Doesn't clog pores
Oil-free
Cheap

Cons:

Can be a little too harsh, leaving skin red
You need quite a lot of it

For about a week I had gone on vacation to the beach and brought along a box of baking soda, a bottle of hydrogen peroxide, and some cotton balls. I am not sure if the salt water and sunshine helped as well, but after exfoliating my face with baking soda and applying hydrogen peroxide twice a day for a week my acne went from moderately light to very light. I would not call it a cure, though - the results were not amazing, and my skin had a "flushed" look. For a quick fix, baking soda is pretty good.

Pros:

Cons:

Burning sensation
Red inflammations

I wouldn't recommend this to people who want to try it. It burns and doesn't leave much result.

Pros:

exfoliates your skin
skin feels clean
cheap

Cons:

stings, dries out your skin, caused more breakouts where i usually don't break out

I tried this for a couple of days and did not have a good reaction to it so I stopped. It was too harsh for my combination skin, and I was gentle with it. It gave me pimples around my mouth where I never had any before. After using it I could see that my skin was sort of peeling, and not in a good way. I would recommend a gentler exfoliant, like right now I am using one with pumice micro particles and it's working really well. I have light acne, and my biggest problem is clogged pores and a couple of pimples. Also, maybe I didn't stick to it enough to see great results, because it seems to work for a lot of people, but I would say be careful if you are looking for something gentle.

Pros:

-

Cons:

I made a baking soda/lemon juice paste and left it on my face overnight. I woke up the next day, and I now have hundreds of whiteheads (I usually get 1 zit at a time, so this is a nightmare!!!).

I've researched on other sites, and you are never suppose to use this combination for more than 1 minute. So, I'm just writing this as warning, I'm sure the baking soda and the lemon juice work separately, but please avoid using this combination overnight!!! hopefully all these whiteheads will disappear SOON.

Not for sensitive skin
Baking soda works wonders for whitening your teeth and cleaning household appliances...but for your face... I am not so sure. I used it in the past to exfoliate my skin -- it did exfoliate, but my goodness, I think it took over the first layer of my skin that's how harsh it was! My skin did look a lot brighter the next day, but it was followed up with a decent size break out... I think baking soda could work for some people with very strong (leathery) skin... but at the end of the day I think BS... is clearly "BS" pardon the pun.
