Pros:

Clears skin for a period of time.

Cons:

Stops working, skin doesn't look healthy, expensive, toner runs out faster than the other products, too much hassle to keep re-ordering on time.

I used Proactiv before, it stopped working after the third month so I stopped using it. Two years later I decided to give it another try and the same thing happened, I'm going to buy one more set to hold me off until my acne.org regimen arrives. Hopefully it works better than Proactiv.

Pros:

they do teach completely clueless people to take care of their skin.
ads show that celebrities have acne too.

Cons:

the renewing cleanser was pretty harsh on the skin.
i didn't really see the point to the revitalizing toner, it felt drying like an astringent.
the repairing treatment has a strong scent, that kind of burns if you use a lot of it. they teach you to apply only a little bit, but if you use more (enough to actually be effective, assuming you can stand the smell), it can get really expensive.

i did proactiv for about 8 years. it helped my moderate acne a little, but i still had quite a few pimples and some areas on my face that never ever seemed to get clear. at first i used all three steps, probably for a year. then i gave up on the toner, because i didn't like the slimey feel (no observed effectiveness change.). then i gave up on the cleanser in favor of plain soap (again, no observed effectiveness change.). finally i found a benzoyl peroxide treatment that was cheaper without the strong smell, that i could apply more liberally and still afford, which has completely banished my acne. i won't be going back to proactiv, but it would be better than nothing?

Pros:

- Worked well enough on uncomplicated acne
- The moisturizer is nice

Cons:

- Very irritating
- Overpriced outside of the states
- Hard to find in stores (can only find it in Canada at one or two specialty kiosks around my city)

I'm 24 now, and started using this when I was about 14. It worked fine for the first couple of years. It kept me from breaking out if I used it consistently, but it didn't do much to improve the look of my skin. It was hard for me to find, aside from mail ordering it, and was pricey, only lasting a month and a half or so at $60 per kit. When I was 16-17 my acne went from being about oily teenage skin, to unbalanced hormones, and pro-activ did nothing to help or prevent my intense pre-period breakouts. I stopped using this product and went on birth control and the Gentle wash/medicate/moisturize regimen. I find it weird that the basic kit does not provide or recommend a moisturizer, considering they make a decent one (You can get a special kit that has the moisturizer, but it is not the basic one). Also, the toner is completely unnecessary, and is more of an astringent than anything.

Pros:

None.

Cons:

Cost, ineffectiveness.

Though the product is designed to work in conjunction with Proactiv's "unique blend" of additives ("enhancements", and I use the term loosely), the active ingredient nonetheless remains Benzoyl Peroxide. These enhancements, the modality of which are not FDA approved (rubbing tea leaves on my face is supposed to help how?), are designed to increase cell turnover and absorption rates, and promote "spalling" and penetration. While effective for some, they are ineffective -- if not counterproductive -- for most. Get yourself a nice soap, a tube of Benzoyl Peroxide, some hydrocortisone; and a light, water-based, non-comedogenic lotion. You'll see better results in better time at half the cost.

Pros:

If started before acne even appears it definately will prevent any acne from appearing. Strong prescription type BP in the wash and lotion/moisturizers which prevents bacteria from entering pores.

Cons:

Once you start Proactiv it's almost impossible to stop using it. Your skin becomes use to the ingredients (BP) and once stopped acne will be worse than when you started.

I started using Proactiv in 6th grade as recommended by a friend and initially was glad I started using it before I even had acne. I rarely had any pimples and if I did i just put the refining mask on it and it went away over night. It seemed like a miracle. Then i decided that I would stop using it because it was soooo expensive and it seemed like a didn't need it. BAD DECISON!!! About two weeks after I stopped using it my forehead was covered with blackheads and I was starting to get whiteheads on my cheeks. I figured I just had to get accustomed to my new face wash, but instead I was just setting myself up for worse acne to come. About a month later I had at least 10 huge painful zits a day all because I stopped using proactiv. I was still washing my face with an acne face wash yet I was still getting acne. I later bought proactiv again and after about 4 months of painful acne and hoping that it would get better my face is almost back to normal except for a few acne scars. Bottom line, don't stop proactiv once you start!!

Pros:

Worked well for about 4 months, made my face feel clean and beautiful, kept me consitantly clear for a while,

Cons:

STOPPED WORKING AFTER THE 4TH MONTH! NOW I HAVE TO QUIT MY ONLINE ACCOUNT CAUSE IT WILL KEEP SENDING ME THEIR PRODUCTS!!!

Miracle product? I thought so at first... I thought this would be the product that FINALLY would clear my acne up for good! But alas, after a few months of having the false hope of being clear forever... It all went down hill and the products didnt do a thing for my face. Every day another pimple would pop out from underneath my face. Until it was a pimply MESS! To backtrack i read all the reviews from people saying it was great and then the reviews from the people that said it STOPPED working... I thought I wasnt going to be one of those people that it stopped working for but its just true thats what happened to me... There is a very good chance it will happen to you...

Pros:

It smells better then most skin care products and thats it!!!

Cons:

EVERYTHING excpet the fragrence! It dried out my skin to the point that it was raw and burned when i touched my face. It left wilts and scars on my right cheek!! Nothing about Proactiv worked for me. Its so not worth the money you pay for it.

I will never ever use this ever again.

Pros:

I guess a pro for the company is that you become addicted to it..

Cons:

But the addiction isnt a good thing, it doesnt work!
It made my skin very dry and it was peeling somewhat for a period of time.

I, unfortunately, was one of the people who used Proactiv for a long time, and didnt realize it wasnt helping at all. All along I was expecting it to work well like it is advertised to, but it only worked for a month or so, and then made my skin worse. It leaves certain spots on your face extremely dry, and overworked, and that was the worst part about it!

Pros:

None.

Cons:

Didn't clear up my acne and dried up my skin.

DO NOT ORDER ONLINE. They signed me up for continuous delivery without my knowledge and kept sending me the product and charging my credit card. By the time I realized it my card was charged over $70. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist instead, treatment is generally covered by insurance.
