Good or bad?
This worked for my younger years, but as I grew older my acne started to change... It stopped working and started causing more breakouts on my face :(

Good for a little while
I am 15 years old , i have been struggling with acne on my forehead mainly and i didn't know what else to do so i got proactive. Proactive did work really well at first , it cleared up my skin and make it really soft. After awhile my face was getting use to the product, my pimples were coming back. I started using another thing called x out which sorta worked but not really , it irritated my skin and made it dry. I went back on proactive and i see no results , i guess my face just got use to this product and does not want to work anymore

Worked initially but then really didn't.
I started getting acne at about 21 in the form of non-inflammatory pimples on my chin and forehead. I'm now 25 and have blocked pores mostly all over my face, cystic outbreaks on my chin (hormonal) and forehead and painful hard spots along my jawline. I have mostly oily skin but these days I really have no idea what it's doing. I tried the core system from proactive about a eighteen months ago and used it for three months. It seemed to really clear my acne however towards the end of the three months I felt that whilst my skin was mostly clear, it looked quite dehydrated. That's when I stopped using it. I revisited it two months ago when my acne got really, really bad as I knew it had worked for me previously. This was a huge mistake. The first week saw some of the smaller pimples dry up and disappear but then in the fourth and fifth weeks it seemed like the proactive was irritating my skin and causing it to break out further. It seemed that the toner was burning and tingling my skin the most so I avoided this part of the system and the problems see sped to clear slightly but then they just got worse again. I had a failed stint with retin a about eight months ago and since then my skin has been much more sensitive to everything so it's possible that this is why the proactiv has not worked for me this time round. The first time round it definitely reduced my breakouts. I stopped using it because it made my skin a but dry and I felt it was starting to look a bit lacklustre.

Pros:

-Leaves skin felling soft and clean
-Clears pipmples

Cons:

-Can dry and irritate skin
-Can cause more breakoutss
-Bleaches towels

At first, Proactiv really worked for me. Within three days, I saw an improvement. But after about two months, my skin was immune to the system. Then, I alternated the Proactiv cleanser at night and a Neutrogena cleanser in the morning. Plus, I do not use the third step (it really dries my skin) or the toner (it is useless). Instead, I used two prescription creams to zap zits. Bottom line, Proactiv works if you balance it with other products.

Pros:

*Got rid of the red bumps and stuff on my face.
*Works fast
*Easy

Cons:

*Really drying
*Caused a lot of pain after a while
*Caused redness, puffiness, and burning

It worked really, but was way too harsh for my skin. I do admit that I have very pale and sensitive skin, and I expected some burning or something, but it was really out of the line. I do not recommend for those like me who need effective, gentle cleansers.

Pros:

*Does clear acne
*Makes face smooth and soft
*Gets rid of scarring/uneven skin tone over time

Cons:

*If you miss even a SINGLE day you will get at least one nasty pimple soon after.
*Expensive/Overpriced
*Made my face lighter or not tan the same as rest of body?
*Over use will make skin peel (only use once a day, and less than that when starting out, skin must slowly get used to it)

I've used this product for several years since I was a younger teenager, I'm now 20. I can say that it does work, but only IF you use it every single day! I can vouch that it works, but I would also NOT recommend it. After all the years of using this product, I have finally decided to stop using it for good. Now that I'm 20 I shouldn't have nearly as much acne as I did when I was a teenager. Yet still for some reason if I missed even one day, I would break out! The active ingredient, Benzoyl peroxide, works by killing all the bacteria on your face. The problem is that your face becomes dependent on it, so it can't fight any bacteria off by itself anymore. So if you stop using it for even for just a day sometimes, you break out. I was able to slowly taper my skin off of using it, and now you know what!? My skin is exactly the same as it was while I was using it. I get pimples just as often as I did while using it. My skin is still 'nice'. This product is way overpriced for what its worth, even with perfect use you will still get some acne. Once you've used it for a while you will notice that you will break out when you stop using it. After a while it feels like you're being forced to buy more and more, like you cant quit or you'll get acne! It is possible to stop using it without breaking out by slowly tapering off of it. That's what I did. I would just recommend avoiding this product if you can, I'm sure there's cheaper and more efficient ways to deal with acne.

Pros:

Cleared up my skin
Cleanser is a great exfoliator

Cons:

Toner stings a bit
Very expensive for the amount
Very fragrant

It did clear up my acne, but I used it in conjunction with a prescription medication, which I think did more to get rid of my acne, and proactiv helped to maintain that. I did wean myself off of both, to see how well my skin held up, and it's doing fine. I stopped using it mainly because it's expensive and I found better, cheaper and more natural products. For each of the products: the cleanser is quite abrasive, and I have tough, oily skin, so it worked for me. The toner stung, and I didn't feel like it did much, just dry out my skin even though there's no alcohol. The repairing lotion, I think, is a must. It keeps my pores clean, and that's the only thing I plan on repurchasing. I've heard a lot of people say the system stops working the instant you stop using it...thankfully not for me. Overall, this is really for people without sensitive, dry skin, who have the money, and aren't sensitive to fragrance. I would recommend this... But then again, not everyone has my skin type

Pros:

skin looked pretty good for a few days

Cons:

expensive

i'm about to be 31 and i've tried almost every product from prescription to drugstore brands; proactiv was my last resort. i don't have bad skin...just minor acne on my jaw line and occasionally i'll have one spot of cystic acne. after using proactiv cleanser (i can't use the toner or moisturizer because it made my face burn) my face looked like it was starting to clear up. I was even taking daily pictures of my skin so i could compare...4 days into it my skin got worse and the acne seemed more painful. my cystic acne went crazy and i was dealing with 5+ spots. i used it for 2 months straight then stopped using the product and went back to my clean & clear and st. ives scrub and my skin went back to normal. a few days ago i decided to give it a try again since i paid so much for it. after washing my face it feels very greasy, my skin is worse and i've got lots cystic acne in weird places like in my eyebrow and right under my brow bone (places where i didn't apply the product). looks like i'll be throwing it all away

Pros:

I think it is a great product to use long term and I do think it helped keep my acne under control even when other products did not work.

Cons:

Over time I think my skin became resistant and it stopped working for me. The peroxide also bleaches clothing and when you stop using it even for a short period of time you have really severe break outs that last a while.

A great product when it was still effective for me, minus the benozyl peroxide bleaching my clothes and having severe break outs when I stopped using it.

Pros:

REDUCES acne

Cons:

Doesn't get rid of blackheads, which is the reason I got it
My skin has never been so dry... I have scales like a fish!!!

I think it just strips your skin of everything so there is nothing for acne to feed off of. I think paint thinner would be just as effective. It burned my skin the first few uses... should something that is supposed to be good for your skin make you feel like you just washed it with acid? I'm cancelling my order.. too late to return.
