hi annique,
im curious why your doctor let you take it for 4 yrs but now is saying its only ok for a year?
ive always read that it should be discontinued a few packs after you clear, and yeah ive found for myself and everyone here it does come back when you come off it, so im almost unsure if i should start my first pill sunday for my second try with it, knowing itll help but itll return when i come off it in a year. My current regimen of stievamycin seems to be working and adding in a safer bcp that i could talke long term like ortho tri cyclin lo just seems to make a lot more sense.
anyway, when the year is up id say just ask for another bcp for your skin, diane isnt supposed to be a long term thing but there is still yaz, yasmin, ortho, alesse, etc that are good for acne also and a lot safer for long term use. and if theyre not enough you could add spiro. knowing that your acne is hormonal is good as youll know what it will respond to, accutane would most likely be a waste as hormonal acne will always return after you take it, so its like suffering through that hell for a very short time of clear skin.

I just use Diprobase cream to moisturise, it's the only thing that keeps my eczema under control without causing more spots! Oh and actually, when I have time I sometimes cover my face in honey for a while - sounds quite funny but it does actually help a little and gives my skin an overall healthier look. It's also incredibly relaxing, so even if you don't notice a gigantic difference it's not a complete waste of time! Whereabouts do you get your acne? Mine is mostly on my face, neck and chest...so I have to wear t-shirts with really high necks all the time since I'm so self-conscious about it...hopefully by the time summer comes I won't have to be worrying so much about that though
Bad news for meeeee.. arrrrrr ... I woke up today to see my face with many pimples,I am so depressed, i guess this is the initial breakout...can it be though in just a week of being on diane? I hope this doesn't get worse.I will ask my cousin and other people that i know if this happened to them . I have tried honey and I liked it. don't remember why I stopped though .maybe i will start again. I use aloe vera gel, spot treatment. wow am so low todayyyy.I get acne just on my face, I wish I had it somewhere else except my face.....keep in touch, hopefully this will subside soon.Best of luck to youuuu and hopefully we seee good no great results .....

i've started using dianette 2 1/2 months ago and i've experienced something very very weird. i would be very thankful for advice!
it seemed to be working fine two weeks after i'd started taking it, no spots for one week, and i knew that it had been working because my breasts felt kind of sore-ish. anyways. i broke out in about four spots on my cheek then.
in the second month, i started to break out like CRAZY. i had hard bumps on my cheeks that hurt like hell and were really inflamed. (i never experienced acne like that. my acne doesn't hurt at all, usually). anyways. my skin was red and hurting for a while and now i am THINKING that it is getting better, but i am not so sure.
has anyone ever experienced REALLY bad acne while on dianette that has GONE AWAY after a while? i need some encouragement D= i feel so ugly that i don't want to leave the house.
oh, and the breakout could also be due to starting a new product regimen (that i've changed now).
Ah, I spoke too soon! Day 9 and initial breakout has occurred. Can't say I'm thrilled but at least I was kind of expecting it and not being too negative about it since it's nothing worse than I've had to deal with in the past - just a few bumps, mostly around my jawline. I'm more annoyed by the fact that my period has lasted 9 days though :/

Hey Everyone
Well I went on Dianette October 2006 and was only allowed on it for 6 months - my skin did improve slightly but was never 100% clear. I cant remember any side effects that I can put 100% down to taking dianette. Ater Dianette I started taking Yamsin which I wasnt happy about I only took yasmin for 2 months because I was unhappy about the weight gain, bad skin again and mood swings. It was not a good time.
Since coming off the pill I have not had a single period and before the pill I had only had about 4 since the age of 13, I am now 17. Since August 2007 I have been on 2 different antibiotics - both have worked really well but when they stopped working my skin broke out like a bitch. I recently stopped taking Doxycycline because I was noticing it was losing effect and my doctor told me that because I wanted to start taking Dianette again I wouldnt need to take antibiotics. I think it is well known that you have to wait a long time for Dianette to show any improvement on your skin - the average is 3 months I think, anyway knowing this I asked my doctor if she could keep me on antibiotics for a little longer just so dianette had a chance to work. My doctor said that it was not necessary as I would see results in a week - I was like pfft whatever still I thought do what the doc says and I didnt bother arguing for any antibiotics. BIG MISTAKE
I am on day 10 of Dianette and I have had the worst breakout ever. To be fair I cant put it solely on Dianette there are alot of factors as to why my skin is being a bitch. I am wondering whether it is just because Ive gone cold turkey off Doxycycline. I feel so depressed about my skin it looks so horrible and Im back to hiding in the house again.
Possibly seeing my doctor tomorrow depending on whether I can get an appointment or not to ask about going on some meds just to sort my skin out while I give dianette a chance to work. Do you think this is a good idea - I'm worried when I come off the next lot of antibiotics I have another huge terrible breakout.
Also I have another question - do you think its ould be a good idea to miss the 7 day break on the first pack and just go staright on to the second? The booklet says this can be done without causing harm. I just think it would give our bodies more chance to get used to the hormones instead of stopping and starting????
Urgh ts so annoying I wish my hormones would sort themselves out.
Does anyone else have a problem with absent/non existent periods? I do not have PCOS apparently, but I have the majority of the symptoms
TEENQUEEN17: I am glad that everything is working out for you hope I see result like you soon. Did you get an initial breakout?
Acne_is_my_secret: I read that some people get worse before they get better, maybe you are having your initial breakout. I also had an initial breakout in just a week of taking diane35. Some people say that they get a few breakouts before they see results, it depends on the individual. why did you get off diane in just 6 months?, as far as I know, it takes 3-6 months to be 50% clear and 6-12 to be 90% clear. The longer on the pill the better. As soon as you clear completely it says the you may try to stay 3- 4 months and then stop the pill. Some women get completely clear from 3 months in the pill, which they are really lucky. Yes stress has a huge impact on your skin, maybe the more stress you are the more breakouts you get. Try to relax. I know that it is not easy but you are not alone. There are a lot of women suffering from the same thing, Take me I freaked out when I saw the breakout, but now I am a bit more calm. I used to check my face everytime and cry, now what i found to be useful is to not look in the mirrow at all. the more I look the more stressed I get. So now while I give diane a chance I don't check my face. I ckeck at it only like once a week. I know it sounds weird but it work for me to keep the stress away and give diane time to work. Yep you are not the only one hybernating..... Do you use an topicals while on diane35? i currently use cetaphil every night and a honey mask too.
The perpose of taking the 7 day break is for you to get your "period"
taken from http://www.sexualityandu.ca/media-room/matte-stories-11.aspx "This is not actually a true period. In fact, the bleeding is brought on by the fact that she is not taking hormones during that time (a aoehormone withdrawal bleeda). After the seven days, the woman starts her next pill pack." I heard of Sesonale pill that you can take it with out a break ." You can take 21 pills, skip the placebo pills and start a new pack. But it is not recommended to keep doing it for a long time, you should stop and let yourself have a period every 3 months orso. In my opinion take it as directed. Ask your doctor if it is safe to not have a 7 day break and please do let us know on that . Make an appointment with your GYN to see if you have pcos. Since you are 17 years it's normal for your hormones to be out of control.
take care and best of luck do keep us informed about your experience with diane.

Been about two weeks now and things seem to be going alright...acne on my chest has reduced A LOT actually, I just noticed today! Spots on my face are clearing up a little (I think) after IB.
Also I was just wondering, after reading some of the other posts, why it is that doctors seem to react very differently to prescribing dianette? E.g. some keep you on it 6 months, others a year...and then I've also heard of people that have been on it for several years. Just curious I suppose, since my doctor hasn't mentioned that it could be particularly dangerous or anything like that but some people's have done.
Acne_is _ my _secret: Yes I know what you mean about bieng frustrated. I think diane35 is save as long as you keep going to the doc for regular check-ups o see if things are going alright with the pill. Give it three cycles and then evaluate. if things seem to be better then just keep taking it.Right now I do have thr breakout from las week but the seem dry. Have you tried honey and aloe vera gel(fruit of the earth aloe gel) http://www.acne.org/fruit-of-the-earth-alo.../241/page1.html people have given it good reviews. Just try a bit on one spot to see how you react to the aloe cause as I read some people can be allergic to the aloe. try on one to see how it works. I usually put it on my pimples that have not had a head yet and the inflamation goes down.I don't use it every day because it dries my skin since i have sensitive skin too. So what I do is spot treat it every 2 days. The Honey I started to use it 3 night ago and will continue with it for 2 night more and the use it 2x a week Check out the reviews too. FIZGIG here reminded me of it and I tried it. seems to work cause they dry out. will see. I completely understand about not going out am the same in most cases, and also feel bad to show my face. My social life is a mess too. will hopefully get through it. I am really sorry to hear about your family and the situation you are going through. Hope to hear from you soon take care and head up high.....
FIZGIG:Im glad that things are going really well for you. I don't get acne on my back or chest just on the face. Are your break out dry? About the doctor's different points of view I will also want to know that.....I guess we have to do our own research to see how things work with diane. so far I have done that!!!! Are you still using honey ? and how often?
best of luck and best regards to all
Thanks, I am still using the honey, probably about every two days. It's definitely one of the best things if you have sensitive skin since it dries out the spots but not the surrounding areas.
The spots on my face were actually slightly worse again today but no huge difference from before. I'm just pleased that the acne on my chest is going so quickly since it's been such a major issue for me for years. My social life is also a bit of a mess right now, partly because of my acne but also mental issues I have but at least I'm in the process of sorting it all out
Hey - I saw the doc and was prescribed some other antibiotics. Hmm the honey and aloe vera gel sounds good - I like the idea of using natural products and my skin has always reacted well to aloe vera in the past. I'll have a look in the health shop and see if they do anything similar.
I dont feel as bad about my skin today.
Fizgig - I know what you mean and I spoke to my doc about it and said that I didnt want to go on it to be told 6 months later that I would have to come off, she was very surprised that I had been told to come off after 6 months and said I would be able to stay on dianette for at least 2 years. I was pleased
Anyone find they get told different things depending on whether they have male or female doctor? x
Yeah, I too have been told that I can only stay on Dianette for 6 months. This is very frustrating as I'm on my 4th pack already and my skin is now staying clear, though it is quite dry and scaly in places. I think the only spots I've had in the past couple of weeks are ones that I've caused myself through squeezing one or two of those tiny bumps under the skin (oops, naughty me). Anyway, I'm not looking forward to coming off Dianette in 2 months as I will graduate from Uni at summer and don't want a horrible grad pic! Oh dear!
HI
You might want to look back at my old postings - I started taking Dianette in October and it broke me out really badly and I had the typical symptoms of being on a bill, sore boobs etc
Then I forgot about it, at the end of April I suddenly realised I don't get anymore spots. So it does work, but takes about 6 months in my case. Well you know the saying one problem replaced by another, I kinda forgot about my skin. Well, sudenly realised hadn't worried about skin for a long time - no new spots for well weeks and weeks. No waking up in the night with a sore face, nothing.
I haven't been on this site for a long time but having worried about other stuff and realising this (I was used to acne being 37) thought I'd post! It took in my case - ages. and I still have old blemishes and large pores but never the big painful spots I used to have.
It works but in my case took a veeery long time!
I don't worry about it anymore - the relief and oh wouldn't it be nice to be this way naturally. But I wanted to post to let people know there might be light at the end of the tunnel.
By the way Dianette made my skin 10 x worse to start with for a long long time, weeks, months! Doc didn't tell me that and didn't believe me when I told her.
Also the other side effects have now dimished!
thanks sundaegirl for telling us your experience with diane, it gives us all great hope. Acne_is_my_secret: I looked at your gallery, your face is doing much, much better. I know of the IB in the begining, but the last pic you took shows a great improvement. ........
In my case today is my 19 day on diane35 and will be finishing my first pack on sunday. From there I should wait and see what happens on the 7 day break. I spoke to my cousin who has been taking diane for 3 years or so and she explained that she used to get more breakouts before her period, which would mean on the 7 day break.... after the three month mark her breakouts subsided. mmmmmm next week should be very interesting ...OHHHHH she said to stay away from chocolate.........??????

Fizgig: I have heard that it is pretty normal for diane users to get a few breakouts through out the first three months. some people get on the 7 day break like my cousin and some don't but this people, like you, might get it any time and then clear and the again breakout and so on until they just give up which is 3 to 6 month mark or maybe sooner. My face has 5 active pimples the rest are blemishes. but now I have this week coming up of the break and well I will see how it goes.I am going to have to take relaxation techniques for the coming week..... Maybe work on that it will relax you.... take a look at this website I found... http://www.canyonranch.com/story/meditation-room.aspx . i know what you mean about being worried about people seeing your face, I too am the same. I always always have people over and it freaks me out to show my face and the worse thing is that the weather is so nice and well am not enjoying it, instead I decide to kill time doing a lot but i mean a lot of stuff in the house, but i guess that is how I tent to forget about it and relaxes me .... I say go out, if that relaxes you, great the more you dont think of it the better.....just like sundaegirl said.
best of luck to all and hope thinks get better for all of us....
