Duac worked well for me, but will have to stop using it as I don't think my horrible red marks will ever fade when on it. Not sure if Dianette will ever work :( I don't want to stop cos I'm afraid of the skin reaction and also because I don't want to have gone all through this and not experience the good effects of it if they are just round the corner. I've been on it 4 months now and would like to see it work. How long has other people had to wait? So far it has made my skin A LOT WORSE. That was cleared with Duac but now I'm left with red marks I didnt' used to have. I get big spots on my chin I didn't used to have. Oh and put on a lot of weight. Not happy today :(

hi, just wondering how everyone is getting on with dianette?

i've been taking it for 5 weeks now, my skin is less oily but during and just after my 7 day break my skin became much worse! before i started on dianette i had mild/moderate acne on my chin but apart from that my face was completely clear, now i have painful spots on my chin and cheeks, really getting me down :( just wondering has anyone experienced the same problem? is an initial breakout common and if so, how long does it take to clear up?

also, i have noticed i am much more irritable and depressed since taking dianette, i experienced some nausea at the beginning but never anymore, but often get headaches. starting to think maybe dianette just isnt for me but dont want to give up just yet!

thanks!

Lisa I can't say how it will be for you and don't want to put you off something that may work for you but I can tell you my experiences (I've been taking it for 4 months now). Like you I had mild/moderate acne but broke out badly enough round my period and am old enough to become fed up. Sometimes I was completely clear. Now I have nasty red marks where I broke out badly for 3 months. These won't go away. I got some duac after 3 months and around this time the spots stopped coming but the marks didn't fade so stopped using the duac hoping the dianette had kicked in and started using azelaic acid to try and clear the marks. I've got nasty painful spot come up again now and the marks haven't faded. I'm also a stone heavier than when I started. Oh and my skin looks worse than its ever been.

I am wondering how a lot of people here can point specifically as to whether Dianette is working for them or not. I mean many of us are here because of our acne condition and we use a whole of topical products in addition to BCP to combat the situation.

I have been using Dianette for two months now and while my cysts have substantially reduced, I cannot really say whether it is due to Dianette or my new regime or even the supplements that I am taking now.

Yes, I do have emotional bouts, like when I look at the mirror and see my face. But is that depression due to Dianette or is it due to the condition of my face? I do not know. Yes, I did have an initial purge on my face. But was that due to the Green Cream I started using or was it due to Dianette? I do not know..........

Now that my face is clearing up finally, I am keen to reduce my dependency on these things, be it the pills or the creams. But I really do not know what exactly has worked for me in order to stop using the other stuff.

Well, I've been on Dianette for 1.5 months now and I'm still in this limbo between crap skin without medication and clear skin. ie. half clear from the Lymecycline before Dianette but no improvements on Dianette. I suppose I should be pleased that I've had no huge breakout, but I'm still getting a few spots a week that take ages to go away. Hope I see some change one way or another soon so at least I know if it's working!...

i was on diane 35 for about a year and half and my skin cleared up considerably after a few months but i never had completely clear skin so i asked my doc to refer me to a derm so she put me on antibiotics and cyndoxil gel while i was still taking the diane 35 and thats the clearest i ever got. of course i came off the diane 35 thinking the derm would have fixed the prob and i wouldnt need that anymore (and youre not supposed to me on it for a long time) so i ended up using just the gel and of course my skin got bad again, not nearly as bad as pre diane 35 though, but i got a lot of breakouts on my neck under my jawline which id never had before in my 11 yrs dealing with acne (im 22) so the derm put me on accutane in jan but after about 2 weeks i got some really bad chest pains (beyond the severe dryness, general all over pain/soreness, constant tiredness, fear of bloody noses and perma hair loss) so they told me to stop taking the tane which sucks, but my doc said to go back on diane 35 and with the cream i have prescribed i should clear up again so it'll be okay. im pretty sure my acne is very much hormonal so it makes sense to be on something for it. just sucks that i have to be on it forever basically to stay clear.

one thing, i was definitely more depressed/moody and cried a lot more on diane 35, didnt realize until i came off it what it had actually done to my moods as ive always been a bit moody dealing with a face like i have had most of my life. but yeah it definitely made my depressive periods more severe, so i'm thinking of maybe asking for orthotryciclin lo or something with less side effects. any opinions?

apparently diane is the best for skin but i dont really feel like being that depressed again, and they say diane isnt meant as birth control so id rather be on something i can rely on for both.

Hey, good luck! I'm just starting month 3 and my skin is fairly clear at the moment, just got 1 or 2 spots that came up during the last break I had. Hope Dianette works out for you!

I've just started month 5. I can't actually tell whether my skin's that must better or not because I've got so many red marks from previous flare-ups! Yesterday I had a full day of having no active spots on my face and it didn't feel sore at all. Today a few have popped up and I can feel a couple of sore ones of my top lip.

Funnily enough, the clearest I've been recently is the past week where I actually forgot to take Dianette for a couple of days and ended up having a longer break than usual. Now I've been back on it about 5 days and my skin appears to have started to flare again. Hmmmmm.

Hmm, that is strange. I feel the same though, can't actually tell what difference Dianette has made as I was half clear from antibiotics before. Plus I have a few red marks too, and the odd spot or three keep appearing, so I'm still waiting for it to work a miracle!

I got put on Dianette almost 3 months ago. I had a huge flare up a week or two into taking it and I still have bad red marks on my face from then. It might've been made worse from my make-up. I work in retail and it's horrid having to face customers everyday so I try and cover up as best I can which probably doesn't help.

Anyway, the Dianette seems to have cleared up by back fairly well so far.. it's still not wonderful though. I'm getting less spots on my face but my skin is still quite oily and I have horrible red marks all over my cheeks which makes it look worse than it is. Grr. I saw my Doctor today and he said it looks better and he's prescribed me Dianette for 6 more months. I know it takes a long time sometimes before it works so i'm going to stick it out. I've been using Differin gel too .. not sure if that's working at all. I can't really tell.

The only side effect is that i've had terrible depression - especially a month or two into taking it - I've always been prone to it but I could control my mood quite well before, that time it was awful. I was reluctant to come off or tell anyone how I was feeling because I wanted clear skin so bad and wanted to give it chance to work. I still get very emotional but the depression seems to be under control now, so maybe it was just my hormones adjusting. (she hopes!)

so the doc did prescribe me a years worth of diane 35 again... and im on stevamycin gel also which is a tretinoin topical, doc said its really good if i can tolerate it cause it works on the flare ups along with helping fade the red marks.

im not thrilled about being on diane again because of the mood thing but i think now that im aware of how it affected me in that way i will be able to control it more, and if it really does bug me ill ask about gettin a script for OTC lo or yasmin... its worth it considering how much better my skin was when i was on it before.

my new derm is way better and spent a lot of time with me going over everything i had tried in the past and how long i was on it for. im confident that ill finally be able to get it under control for good... just gotta wait it out a few months for now until things start to take affect again, skin looks pretty bad again atm :(

she did inject my face with this stuff on a couple spots which hurt! anyone else had this done? and she used dry ice to exfoliate first also.

I think I'm still suffering with emotional lows due to dianette. I don't even know if it's working for my skin. I posted on this thread before christmas i think talking about the lows i felt. It's annoying cos they're not really DEEP lows, just silly crying and feeling upset over things. Even when I'm happy with how everything's going in my life. IT'S SO STRANGE but I don't know if to come off or not, what shalllll I dooooo?

Been 4 days for me now and I keep feeling sick, though I haven't actually been sick so far. Apparently this is a pretty common temporary side effect when you start taking the pill, just wondering if it's happened to anyone else and if so how long has it gone on for?

hi guys, I went on dianette at about 14, and was on it for about 4 years. It 100% cleared my very severe body acne and massively improved my bad facial acne. but I came off it a year ago and it all came back within 4 months. so I went back on it, and Ive just finished my 1st pack. it worked rele well for me last time so Im hoping it does the same again. but my doc said that you can only take it for up to a year. is this true, and what should I do at the end of the year?? Im desperate to have the clear skin I had only 6 months ago back, but maybe I never will!

Hey fizgid, apparently we have began taking diane35 at the same time. I have not had any bad symptoms yet. You say that you keep feeling sick, is it like stomachaches? What time do you take your pill? My sister started taking diane a month before us and she stricktly told me to take the pill when your stomach is full. She once took the pill at night when her stomack was not as full and the next day she was feeling sick. So she told me to take it in the afternoon when i usually eat alot. just a thought......I hope that later on i don't develop any side effects. how is the pill working for you as clearing the face have you developed a initial breakout ? I havent noticed anything different yet , i guess is too early to tell, but i do have a problem of picking my face which i want to control it LOL......What cleansers are you using while on diane?

hope we keep in touch and share our experience with the pill.

take care

Eve

I usually eat my breakfast at 9-10 am and then I eat at 12 again, and surely after thay i take my pill. Hope it works for you too.

I know what you mean about cleansers being too harsh, I have the same problem, I tried bp and it totaly made my face bad. I also find that water alone is best, but I did buy that water filter to get rid of the chlorox because I feel the chlorox in the water irritates my face too by drying it . I do use a cetaphil cleanser every night and I sometimes miss it. Do you moisturize? what moisurizer?

I have never actually had acne when I was a teen, but I when turned 21, wow I was hit with a major breakout which gave me stress and made it worse. I actually didn't think it was caused by hormones since I was over my teenage years so used vitamin b5 for 2 years and it was working, not completely clear though, and I got so tired taking so many pills. so I stopped taking it and well I can feel the difference. Then I read somewhere that adults get it too because of hormones, and now that am 24 I decided to take diane35.

No initial breakout here yet, but I have read that some people experience it later on. Hopefully not us. I know what you mean about the face clearing after the period the same here, but in a week after my period I usually get them again. I will defenetly no pick from now on, lets try that....

day 6 and I do have like 4 active pimples now and well the rest are blemishes. My husband has high hopes that it will work....

Ok K.I.T. and let me know how's it going!!!!

take care ,**EVE**
