This topic is great!! hey! i'm new I have actually tried all medications so now I'm on Dianette started my second pack now ...so far okay...I feel like i have terrible mood swings, weight gain and feeling sick a bit but on the skin side of things its not too bad.

The doc warned me of the side effect (due to my ed history and depression) but i insisted i must go on it, since ive heard so much.

This week though my skin is getting bad again and I feel like crying!! ugh. at frist it was clearing but now...? I hope this is is just temporary!

how is every1 else??

Coffeejunkie: Did you have an initial breakout in the first weeks?I have read that some of us will get a few breakouts through out the 3 months before it gets better. If you didn't experience an IB, then maybe right now you are... I understand that is soooo stressful but crying will make it worse. I too feel the same way sometimes but I try to control it and I try to also be patient.....You are not alone, most of us here feel the same...Right now I have 3-4 active ones and i have just taken my fourth pill of the secound pack.......Hopefully things will get better for all of us....Do let me know how are things going.....

Fizgig: How are things going with you, since we started diane at the same time????

best of luck to all...

coffeejunkie: That sucks, my skin did that the other week and I was constantly stressing about it. My skin is much better again this week though and I'm sure yours will improve too, breakouts appear to be really common in the early stages and you've probably already seen all the people on here that complained about initial breakouts but then after a few months were telling us all how well it had worked for them. Good luck, I hope things improve soon!

darkviolet31: Yep, just started my second pack the other day and so far, so good. Noticed quite an improvement around the chin area - I only have one active spot there now as opposed to in the past where I'd get sick of counting. Overall skintone seems to have improved as well I think. Still nowhere near perfect but I think it's starting to have more of an effect and if not quite yet then at least I'm not worse off than before! Hope it's going well for you too..?

Effects other than those on my skin include putting on about half a stone recently...despite this I still have a slimmer waist and flatter stomach than before I was on the pill though, I'm pretty sure most of the gain is in my breasts so I really shouldn't complain lol. As for mood swings...I have had them but nothing too horrible and to be honest I've always been a bit oversensitive so I can't tell if it's due to dianette or not really!

Good luck everyone...

FIZGIG: wow I am the opposite of you on the weight situation. I have noticed that I don't gain weight at all, yes my belly is also flatter than before. My breast have gone slightly bigger. I keep craving for junk food and I can't stand beef, just the tought of it makes me sick....... Wt????...... do we have to keep a sort of diet while on diane35, not to gain weight but for clear skin? I am wondering cause I feel like eating all sorts of foods and I keep controling my self from eating them because I don't want to breakout. My Hubby tells me that it would not do me bad to sometimes have ice cream or other delicious foods because my breakouts are hormonal... what do you ladies think? what to eat while on diane???mmmmm any suggestions? I only experienced bad mood swings during my 7 day break, and as soon as I took my pill it went away.....

darkviolet31:

I have been craving junk food too! Chocolate too sometimes. I'm not that surprised in a sense because those are usually the things I like to eat when I'm on my period. I've noticed after experimenting with my diet over a few years that it doesn't really affect my acne whatsoever but then I've seen other people that really can't eat some foods or they break out terribly...but I think if the acne is hormonal then it shouldn't do you any harm. I'd say go for it (in moderation!) and if the worst happens and you do notice negative changes, you can always just change your diet a little.

coffeejunkie:

Glad your skin is starting to improve and that you're feeling better about it! I haven't heard that about milk before but by experimenting you'll find out if it makes any difference to you or not...hope things continue to go well :)

Fizgig: I do crave for junk food but I am controling my self maybe until I hopefully see improvement on my skin from diane35, After that I shall incorporate delicious foods. I feel that if I do it now I wount be able to tell if I am having more breakouts from the pill or certain junk food. I have actually been drinking green smoothies, a cup a day but some people drink a quart a day, I heard that it helps. Started exercising everyday. Update on diane: I am no where near clear but I am not worse than when i had the breakout from diane in the beginning, blemishes from past have not gone away and my upset stomach has diminished . do you wear make up every day? Before I had acne, i used to wear make up everyday and now I am just terrified to use any.... I do use make up on a party but that's not often..... how are you doing with diane so far?

coffeejunkie: I also go through ups and downs . somedays am doing good and then others am not. I haven't broken out on my neck in fact i have noticed that my overal skin is so smooth. but my face is not near clear......I completely have quit on daries for a long time now. I have heard that milk is not good because of the hormones that it contains. but organic milk should be fine. Actually last time when I was having heartburn I had a cup of organic milk and since then I have not had an upset stomach. I don't wear make up , maybe you should try using aloe vera gel (fruit of the earth) on those spots but only if you are not allergic to aloe ,do make sure before using it, it takes the pain away. Just a suggestion....

Acne_is_my_secret: How are things going with you?

Ladies hope things turn out well for all of us , best of luck to all.

Ahh after reading all of these comments about Dianette I am horrified! I have 3 months worth in my room which I'm supposed to be starting when I have my next period in a week or so. I'm seriously considering going back to the doctor and asking about getting yasmin which doesn't seem to have anywhere near as many negative comments or horrible side effects such as weight gain etc.

What do people think? When I went to the doctors I didnt know much about which contraceptive pills are best for acne etc as I hadnt even considered them a possibility for me.

Accutane seems to be one of the only medications that is a cure rather than a cover up for acne.... Hmmm

Flo :)

darkviolet31: Ah, I see where you're coming from! Yes, I do wear make up everyday both to cover up blemishes and to keep my skin from getting too dry. I really feel like my skin is improving at the moment - today I was even able to wear a top I hadn't been able to wear in ages because I was so worried about how my chest looked! I still have some spots but they start to fade faster and I think I have less than before so it might be starting to work. I hope this happens for you too soon since we started at around the same time :)

Florentine: I had that reaction when I first came on here and read some of the comments about dianette. I'd urge you to give it a go because I was a little hesitant about it but I'm really happy with how it's going. The only side effects I have experienced so far are nausea (temporary), occasional mood swings and my figure changed so that I had a smaller waist and flatter stomach, though I did gain a little weight at one point (no idea where it went to though since I looked the same as before!)

If the worst happens and it doesn't work for you or there are bad side effects that you can't cope with you can always come off it and try another pill if you want to! Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Hi, I just joined this board today after googling "how long does Dianette take to work?" I am 1 week into my third pack, and was wondering how long it will take before Dianette really starts to work.

I think I have noticed a slight difference in the past week. I had a major breakout on my cheek last Thursday, but it has actually been quite quick to heal.

What I find odd is that my acne only ever occurs on the right hand side of my face. It's really bad there, but I only occasionally get a spot on the left side.

I am hoping that now the weather is warmer, a bit of sun will help clear things up a bit quicker.

Here's hoping!

Fizgig:I am glad that things are working out for you, I am waiting for the blemishes to fade. My husband and mother in law have told me that things are improving. I hope that from here things will be better.do keep me posted....

coffejunkie: stress does affect my acne. anxiety, acne and stress appear together, is like a chain reaction and it is actually proven that most students get brekouts during exams.I say relax, and just think that things will be better. The more relaxed you are the better you will be, not only with acne but with everything else. Maybe try meditation and relaxation technics when ever you feel stressed or just begin everyday and end everyday with this http://www.canyonranch.com/story/meditation-room.aspx . I know what you mean about not being able to enjoy summer,I feel the same way, but lets  that this get better for all of us.

Florentine: I think most of us here felt just like you before starting. I say if you are skeptical go back to you doctor and ask him/her everything you want to know about diane35. Some people need to hear it from their doctors mouth to be really sure. Maybe research diane35 a bit more since you didn't know much about bcps. that is what I did. yes yasmin is also good for acne too. diane-35 is more potent than yasmin, has more hormones so stronger effects, same manufacturer.Everybody reacts differently to birth control pills. I agree with Fizgig, you may want to try diane35 to see how things work for you. sometimes you need to experience with different brands of bcp until you find the right for you. Accutane would be my last resort. do keep us posted on what you deside.

Hi RachelS, glad you joined. well to what i have heard from people who have taken diane35 it takes 1-3 months to see some improvement of 30%-50% and 6-12 months to see 60%-90% improvement, the longer you are on the pill the clearer you are. However there are lucky people that get clear in the 1-3 months. It depends on the individual, each one of us react differently. I have read of some people here that they have seen improvement in their 4th or 6th month mark. Did you experience a initial breakout in the first week(s)?

best of luck to all.....

Hey all, just had a look at all the new posts on this thread and it seems there are still mixed reports about Dianette. I agree that it affects people differently. I'm in the middle of my 5th month and was doing well until this week, when I've just got the biggest breakout I've had in months, and certainly the biggest while on Dianette. I've got a couple of cysts on my chin and a few inflamed spots on either cheek. It's so frustrating  and I've only another month left before I have to come off Dianette anyway. I hope it works out for others who can stay on it longer. It's definately a slow process!

I was a bit worried about starting Dianette, as I had taken a few different types of contraceptive pill before (just for contraception, not to help my acne), and although my skin cleared, and I didn't put on weight, I had breakthrough bleeding continually for 5 months!

However, I am pleased to report that on my third month of Dianette, I have had no breakthrough bleeding, my periods are less painful and shorter and I have not put on any weight, (although I have been making a concious effort not to overeat!).

On the minus side, I did get some major breakouts in the first two months, but hopefully I was just adjusting to the active ingredients. Also, my boobs have grown!

Now in my third month and I have not had any new spots for 6 days! That's a record.

To Florrentine: My friend tried Dianette, and told me not to start it as she felt depressed taking it. I told her that it couldn't make me feel any worse than I do when I look in the mirror and see my face is covered in pusy lumps and scabs!

Medication affects different people different ways, I would say to give it a go. If you suffer adverse effects, tou can stop taking it. You never know...it could really make a difference for you.

I've been on Dianette for almost 5 months now and i'm FINALLY seeing improvement. They do say good things come to those who wait! My face is clear of spots apart from a small one on my chin. My chest is a lot clearer too.. i'm sure it'll be completely clear soon especially now it's almost summer.

My only problem is that I have lots of red marks on my face from the initial breakout I had when I first started taking Dianette. I've no idea how to get rid of them.. some of them are fading slowly. I started using Glycolic Acid last week. It seemed to be going well until the 4th/5th day, then my skin got super dry and was peeling!! So I stopped that and now it's almost back to how it was. I don't think acid was such a good idea.. my skin is a bit sensitive.

Anyhow, just thought i'd let you know that it seems to work! :D Even if a little slowly. My mood has improved too. I still have the odd off day but don't most people!?

Pay close attention to your mood while on this drug. I found that after prolongued use I became irritable and difficult, to the point that I had to discontinue use. It did clear everything up 100% though and the red marks disappeared.

Trust me, I understand. It took quite a few months for my moods to flip flop the first time around... I went off it and I stayed clear for a while. I recently went back on it and within the first 2 weeks my moods were shifting. I stayed on it for 2 months and could no longer stand to be on it as I was all over the place and treating everyone like crap. I almost lost my relationship because of the mood switches. For me it wasn't worth it and the results are only temporary as it is not curative.
