Rooibos Tea

I buy rooibos tea from the local supermarket now and have been using it since Aug08. At first it was pretty awful to drink and I used to drink it with rice milk  , but when I worked out that I could just drink one strong cuppa  (4 teabags infused for at least 5 mins) with normal cows milk, I would just get it over with in one big hit. I was drinking it first thing in the morning (could explain my tiredness!) but am gonna switch to teatime when I'm not doing night duty. I definately think it has helped a lot with inflammation, and I find I am a lot healthier on it (seem to get sicker less with flu etc). I don't know if this deserves to be under the severe acne topic, perhaps more of a papules/pustules, milder acne aid IMO. Probably worth a shot for a month or so since it is not too expensive  . I will keep on it since I am enjoying it's other health benefits too, and it has helped with my inflammation (ie... when you can feel one brewing).

I have 3 large cysts on my cheeks for 3 days now. These were first in a really long time (I have moderate comedonal adult acne). In search of a fix I've checked this board and saw this thread. I have rooibos tea at home already, so I thought of giving it a try. The cysts are significantly smaller now, which is a miracle for 3-day-olds. I blame rooibos tea personally

I ended up brewing too much to drink in a day. I left the tea sachet in the brewing pot to extract whatever is in it and placed it in the fridge overnight. Today I've made ice-tea with it. Since rooibos has low tannin, it does not become pungent later.

Rooibos ice-tea:

1/2 liter brewed and cooled rooibos (I'd used a teaspoonful rooibos in a liter of water)

1/2 lemon juice or more

2 tablespoon sugar/sweetener/honey

Ice

It goes down faster than hot tea and I guess it would be more palatable for those of you who find the taste too nutty.

Do you think that a vitamin store would carry Get Gorgeous? I have a cyst after 2 months without one and I'm getting very desperate. There's a Vitamin Shoppe next to the Starbucks near my house. I'm thinking of maybe venturing out and trying to get some just to see if it does anything for me. I have to admit, I really am not a fan of tea, although I LOVE chai tea with milk. (However, I ran out last week... I wonder if that has anything to do with my out-of-nowhere cyst?)

Mehhh. I just want SOMETHING to actually work. Tetra and Tretinoin cream WERE working, but then this stupid cyst popped up. Idk what I did wrong. :[

EDIT: Just checked the Vitamin Shoppe webbie and they apparently carry Get Gorgeous... not sure if they have it at the location near me though. I really don't want to have to order it online because of shipping and such. bleh I also think I'm going to buy some more chai. Maybe the combination of the two teas can help me?

Does anyone know if chai tea has been known to help with acne? And if so, what kind/brand might I look for? I was drinking Oregon Chai before... deliciousness

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Went out and bought the Get Gorgeous tea today from World Market. It was expensive, but cheaper than what was listed on the Vitamin Shoppe webbie. However, I did also go to the Vitamin Shoppe to buy my very first container of Pure Tea Tree Oil.

It smells DISGUSTING. Ohhh my gosh. But The Cyst is gigantical and I have no choice but to slather TTO all over it. :[ Along with tretinoin cream. I know by tomorrow it's going to be a horrible horrible mess. I'm so upset. I don't know what I did wrong to make this happen. :[

I guess I'm going to try the tea for the first time tomorrow morning. I need to get to Walmart to buy the chai mix I like, though... they didn't carry it at World Marker, Vitamin Shoppe, Publix, OR another Walmart in town. Only the one by my house seems to have it.

Anyway, gonna shut up now and go douse myself in TTO some more. :[

I just picked up plain Private Selection brand rooibos tea from Kroger. It was all they had. Would this work? The ingredients just list rooibos and nothing else. I am suffering from the chin cyst breakout from hell post Fraxel Re:Store and it seems to be resisting medicine. I hope this works.

I am drinking Get Gorgeous right now. But I put half milk, half water instead of only water like the directions say. Honestly all I taste is milk. The tea bag has been in the mug for half an hour and I can only barely notice the tea taste. I don't mind though. It's definitely drinkable.

I can't really tell if the TTO helped with The Cyst or not. It seems maybe a tiny bit smaller...? I'm going to use more this morning and see what happens.

Gah this stupid cyst. :[

i love the tea but since i'm low on dough [starving college student] i ran out of the tea and wasn't able to buy more

the tea gave me smoothe skin and people noticed i was glowing

only about 1-2 cysts would pop up now and then but nothing too major

when i stopped drinking cuz i ran out, my acne came back with a vengeance

right now im suffering from inflammation, redness and cysts everywhere

:(

i wish i can get more

im just waiting for my paycheck to roll in so hopefully i can buy the cheap version

any donations? lol

anyways...i dont think anyone answered my previous question...

do tea brands matter?

i guess it doesn't since people have been getting the same results despite the kind of brand

i went to lupicia [the tea store at the malls] a while back and wanted to get some fresh rooibos tea from them since they have different kinds of blends

its more expensive from my 2 for $2 one at target but maybe the better quality the better results?

not too sure but i'll give it a whirl

congrats to everyone's success!

keep on drinking!

i am luv4dietcoke and a rooibos tea convert. ;)

[/quote

I looked at my target and didn't find anything. Did you get in the tea area or some other isle? Hoping I can get it at target that cheap!! Thnxs.

This Get Clean tea has been absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! I've had severe cystic acne for about a year now, and just when I thought it reached its peak and accutain was my only option, I stumbled upon this thread and gave it a shot. After trying practically every combination of over-the-counter and prescription antibiotics and topicals, THIS is actually showing me results after just one week one it!! I don't know how to explain it, but it's incredible.

I drink about 3 cups per day and it has done wonders with my skin's oil production. I'll keep everyone posted and tweak different ways to make this the most effective it can be.

Thank you so much!!!!

I'm going to give this tea a try. After reading everyone's reviews, I was desperate to try it so I picked some up from Starbucks on my way home (Tazo brand). I don't know if this is the best kind, but until I get myself to a specialty tea shop, I hope it will suffice. Crossing my fingers it will help!

Thank you for this thread! I've definitely noticed it does help the inflammation go down, but so far I'm not disciplined enough to drink it everyday. I've been drinking Tetley's Red line - I like the berry flavoured one but have stuck with the plain rooibos lately (it comes in plain, berry, and vanilla).

I usually use one teabag per day, which makes 4 cups with the Tetley brand for me. I'll have to look into buying rooibos in loose leaf form, I think that'll last longer.

Could you also try soaking your face in the sink with warm water and a rooibos tea bag? Surely that would be very effective, as well as drinking it ofcourse.

I drink around 5 cups a day, I actually really like the taste so i think im sort of addicted. So im trying to cut down to only 1 or 2 a day, but surely the above method would help or not?

Thanks

I love this tea! I have been drinking it for a long time but I usually just have one cup of it every 2 days or so.. mainly because I have about 20 other favourite teas to choose from in my pantry hehe

Am gonna drink it more and see if it helps the acne though! I also think that jasmine tea helps abit... I drink it almost every day.

Tea + Zinc = No inflammation at all.

I think people should check out something else besides creams and gels because they are not the answer to acne, to get rid of it you should also take a systemic (oral) cure...

I've been lurking here for years, anyway, this is my first post. I've had acne since I was 14, I'm 21 now. My acne was pretty bad - there really wasn't much clear space in my face. BCP made my skin better - however, even though it was much better, my skin was still yo-yoing between mild and moderate. I just took drinking rooibos as a I've-got-nothing-to-lose project (the next step - Roaccutane).

The first week I drank honey bush tea (with countless other things including very small amount of rooibos) as I couldn't find plain rooibos, it had no effect at all (maybe it takes time). I finally managed to get some pure rooibos tea, and I could really see it working just some hours later. My skin is really sensitive and gets red from using benzoyl peroxide, it took away some of this redness. Not miracle, but still much better. Usually I woke up with one-two new pustules every day, now I get maybe one tiny one per week. Another thing is - I somehow feel more relaxed as rooibos really has some calming effect. I also use some leftover from my tea as a toner, which weirdly gives my skin some orange tint, so I don't use it in the morning.

Most likely my acne will be bad again once I stop drinking it, but at the moment it works.

I started drinking Get Gorgeous after reading this thread. I've been drinking it for about a week, and it seems to be working. I did have many cysts/nodules on my face. I barely had any part of my face that didn't have acne on it. But now my forehead is clearing up alot. I only have about two cysts on my forehead now(which is a miracle). The rest of my skin looks bright and refreshed. I also us the tea as a toner and I love it. It also makes me feel better when I drink it. I was having troubles sleeping at night, but now I sleep like a baby. I had the flu when I started drinking it and that went away within two days, as well.

Thank you for posting about this tea. Get Gorgeous is amazing. :)

I picked up, actualloy mine is called SOD tea, but it has the same ingredients (leaves) as rooibus.

I bought it about a week ago, and remember a few days ago, looking in the mirror and wondering why my skin was looking healthy and had a slight glow about it.

Now i KNOW!! it's this tea!!

My intuition told me to pick it up at the grocery store. i was actually looking for green tea at the time (which has never done anything great for my skin) and then came across this. This rooibus is the best!!!

I have no active acne on my face at all, and a slight glow to, what more can a girl ask for?! :)

I took HoneyGirl's advice and ordered some of this rooibos tea online. Of course, the shipping cost was outrageous, so I opted for the 5-6 day option (1 day shipping was $28). In the meantime, I'm at work tonight, and in the cabinet there are tons of different types of tea as though someone cleaned out their cabinet at home and left it here for us. I dug through them all. Found "yerba mate royale" and it claims to have more antioxidants than green tea. I googled it. Sounds promising. But either way, my rooibos is coming, just not until next week! Hopefully it tastes better than green tea. I really don't care for the stuff but drink 3-4 cups a day (with apparently little effect).

yeah same here milgirl

green tea did nothing at all for my skin.

you do have to drink enough of the rooibus tea though. at least 4 cups a day is good, and i reuse the teabags, when i add a new fresh teabag of roobus too it. i hope it works for u too.

between the epo, zinc and now rooibus, we can't lose!!!

btw, i have cut down my zinc to one tablet a day now, and my epo to 2 a day, as my skin has no more breakouts whatsoever.

pls let me know how u go

Yea, the zinc easily upsets my stomach, which is weird for me. I have a normally iron stomach - nothing gets to me! I am trying to take it twice a day though, for now. Once I get things under control I'll phase back to 1x and see how I do. Looking forward to the tea arriving!! Wow how nice it would be to "glow" instead of have redness, bumps, or dry sickly looking skin from topicals!
