Hello hello

I am on day 8. I have healed surprisingly well from this procedure considering the volleyball which was my head for the first 2-4 days LOL. I mean, most of the mask has even fallen off (Dr.Rullan advised me to not reapply bismuth powder when the mask cracked and to just apply Aquaphor on those areas). Waiting to go to get 100% of the mask off and an oxygen facial in less than an hour. Promise I will post a thorough thread about my 2 PCA Experience!

I'm ALREADY itching to do another phenol!! Especially since I read that re-epithelialization occurs quicker for the second peel (based on Dr.Rullan's research article in 2004)...basically can occur at day 5 because the skin is a lot thinner. Who wants to do a second phenol, who is getting more serious about it??

Who has done two phenols an can contribute their valuable experience???

I've tried asking Dr.Rullan about it already lol but he's kind of deterred me saying it takes 2-3 years for full collagen remodelling to occur....but also don't want him to retire soon.

I actually asked the nurses in the room before the peel if he was retiring soon and told them that was what Mary told me... they also had no idea....but said his daughter probably wouldn't let him....

I'm still doubtful overall

Just don't want to miss the opportunity for a second peel

Yes it sounds obsessive

But many of us are on here...and for good reason....if this peel provides tangible results....got to do what you got to do, right? especially since so many other acne scar treatments DONT provide results~!

Hey, hows your skin? Did you see any further improvement? Dr.Rullan was saying the skin will keep improving in the next 2-3 years.

It's looking good but I think that might be a little far off in saying it gets better with time, especially at 2-3 years.

@wombatstaywoke I'd say try to do it sooner than later (if you want to do it with Dr.Rullan) - but I know you also mentioned looking at other providers for the peel that specialize in ethnic skin..speaking of which, did you find anyone by the way?

As I am likely planning to stick with Dr.Rullan as my provider for the 2nd, I'd like to schedule the 2nd one as soon as applicably possible...i.e in summer 2023

That is, if i'm not satisfied with the results of the first peel...I'm on day 11 post-op, I can't see any of my scars yet, but still likely super swollen...just waiting for them to emerge... (whilst hoping they just don't lol---)

@catharsis2018 You're still quite a long way out from seeing your final result. Really, wait until month 6 or 7. Did you get any word on when he'll actually retire? You must be loaded to just spend another $6,500 like that for a second phenol peel! I would most likely schedule it for the tail end of 2023 if I do decide to go with it since I have plans for the summer. Heal well!

6 months? That's too soon. It'd best to wait at least one year though. Btw, what did Dr. Rullan say regarding retirement?

Yeah, this is true. I do wonder what the final result will be. Baha, no I wouldn't say i'm loaded lol. But I just have real concern he might be retiring sooner rather than later...so I'd rather prioritize the second one than not. When did you stop seeing additional results? how many months post-op? Yeah, the touch-up policy is you have to wait at least another 6 months. Thank you for the wishes!

Yeah I know.. his recommendation is wait 1-3 years...but agh! if the time is right, i'm just so inclined to take it rather than wait and see...

He didn't say anything himself

But during my day 2 in procedure, he received a update (which is not my part to share) and when I was getting the o2 facial done (Mary did my facial! - she's awesome) she expressed a lot of ambiguity about if he is retiring / not due to this new concern related to family. I know i'm being quite vague myself lol but anyway point is

Yes, there is no affirmation that he is retiring right away...he is obviously very passionate about the peel..mary was telling me he does 2-3 a day..which is pretty crazy. and awesome. so he may step back from other procedures and only do the peel

But there is also ambiguity

And my speculations and logical reasoning is he's in his 70s..he has family concerns..on the same token, I also am In good health right now to do a second peel...don't have that many responsibilities in 6-8 months time i.e there may not be a right time LATER...so I also kinda don't want to prolong it to a "let's see attitude"

All I can say is...after doing the peel...I realized it may be the best thing to give someone suffering from acne scars tangible results

Like what other procedure do we have to prep the skin so long, take meds, do diagnostics, get a ECG ...have our VS and chest diagnostics monitored during the procedure (given fentanyl for crying out loud lol)...

it's heavy duty stuff and I believe it can work (even though I have NOT seen my final result yet, I am a believer)

and I do not say that about um well 95% of acne scar treatments offered out there lol

and Dr.Rullan specializes in both the peel AND acne scarring..I dunno. For me it just makes sense to go for it. And this is coming from someone all the way in canada

BUT THAT BEING SAID... I don't even have my final result yet. So meh. All speculation

I'll follow-up after the new year. I'd like to put this behind me 1000% even if that means just paying half the cost of what I originally paid for.

I'd be pretty satisfied for the result if I got the same as what @wombatstaywoke's pictures are showing. 🙂

Hi

I havent done the phenol peel (yet) but I am planning to and have been reading a lot about the procedure. I think it would be great if a second peel could yield better results. Has anyone on the forum actually done it?

As far as the interval between the two is concerned, from what I have researched, it takes at least 6 months to see the real objective results (because the procedure is very invasive and the following microswelling can be ongoing for months, just like after a fully ablative laser) and it can take up to a year or years to see the complete improvement. It doesnt mean that results before the 6 month mark are not permanent, every skin is different, but realistically results are to be assessed after a period of time according to the dermatologists who perform the procedure.
