Hi @Liralee, have you been seeing progress with your atrophy?

I recently had a deep atrophy after getting a cortisone shot injected that appeared over a month ago. I was devastated after it sunk in and left me with a deep dent (bigger than my cyst) that I figured would stay on my face for months.

I™ve found products that™ve (almost) healed the deep crevice, so I figured I™d drop them for you, seeing as they were relatively cheap, natural and didn™t require surgery or fillers.

Doctors Best: Collagen Types 1 and 3 with Peptan 1000 mg tablets (taking two pills twice a day)

Dr. Christopher™s Complete Bone & Tissue 440 mg tablets (taking two pills twice a day)

Dr. Christopher™s Complete Bone & Tissue topical ointment (applying/massaging into the dent at night)

Keep in mind this has helped my face TREMENDOUSLY in just three weeks, see attached for my progress photos.

I hope these suggestions help, or that you™re on your way to healing fast! I really think having time and patience with skin is key to seeing results. Try your best not to overthink it too much (even though I know that™s hard) and let your body do the healing. Best of luck to you!

Very interesting Next! Stunning improvement. Also, it appears a dent from a cortisone shot may heal naturally over 6-12 months. Don't lose faith yet.

Hi @NextDefinitionI wish I had seen some changes if anything it seems to be getting wider longer and deeper, its at least an inch long now and I had to cut bangs to cover it since I feel so awful about it. That helps a little bit.

Its good to know yours has healed so much and so quickly! And thanks for all the tips. I contacted a surgeon who told me I need to wait a minimum of three months before doing anything, so for now I guess Ill just keep waiting and hoping that it will fill in. How long did you have atrophy before you began using the products which seemed to help? I hope mine fills in like yours. I will update if it does of course, if not Im hoping subcision will help and maybe fillers.

@Liraleemy atrophy definitely got worse before it got better.

Most dermatologistswont do anything to help the atrophyuntil a couple months after it begins to dent, which is why I resorted to taking healthy supplements.

While youre waiting out on getting the subcision or fillers, I really do highly suggest the products I recommended. It wont hurt while youre in the healing process, and maybe you wont even need to interfere with your skin anymore.The progress photos I sent are seriously only a three week recovery span, and I really hope it can help someone else like it helped me!

Hi Guys,

I had the same problem as you all when i got mine done 3 months ago. For anyone reading this who is considering having it done and has been warned of the side effects, dont do it!! save yourself the stress and anxiety, look for other options.

My dermatologist has been great and gave me 1 round of subscision, that hurt quite a bit tbh, but it did 100% lift the dent slightly. I then had 2 rounds of the matrix laser which has flattened the area, although im not sure if its 100% perfect yet. I'm on month 3 now so hopefully my body can do the rest, but i no longer have a dent.

The matrix laser worked amazing, but subcison worked to, ive had this all dont for free but really do recommend the laser.

My Atrophy was not deep enough for filler to work and look good, so for people who have shallow dents matrix is a good option.I think its safe for all skin types to.

So to update. I had many saline injections, I never really saw a difference in them and my dent got worse for the first month and a half and then stayed stable.I almost thought people were maybe exaggerating when they said the dent just popped back to normal over night. But about 4 days ago thats what happened with mine. It is almost completely back to normal tonight. So weird but I am so incredibly relieved. I hope this gives people some hope.

I have a dent in the edge of my chin where I got a cyst injected two weeks ago. derm said he used a "concentration of 2." 2 what? What does that mean?

What is strange is that I am now noticing ANOTHER tiny dent near the corner of my mouth, a whole inch from the injection site. In fact, the whole rightside of my chin looks a little weird and uneven. Is it possible for a singleinjection to cause multiple divots?

@snowpea

He used a 50/50 concentration. May be too strong and you need dilute.

It could have traveled or you had a reaction to the steriod. It will heal over time, you can do saline injections with the Dr or get some filler, otherwise it can take 6 months to a year to heal.

Yes it can tunnel or travel, ... anything in the skin is not 100% predictable. For instance acne can cause bumps elsewhere. Secondly you could have a condition called spontaneous scaring. Thirdly some have a gut(take lots of probiotics, stop sugar and carbs, dairy, eat lots of fruit and veg), - skin reaction.

The chin has muscles that can migrate material as well.

@snowpea

my indentation was large, and took about 2 months to just randomly get better. Its completely gone and back to normal now, so please dont stress too much! I did do saline injections but not actually sure they really helped because I never saw improvement after them and then it just improved spontaneously overnight. But my dent definitely was much bigger elongated from where the cyst and shot was given.

@beautifulambition

Thank you for the information. Very saddening. Its only been two weeks and I can't imagine how much worse it will get. I heard that 10% concentration is what you want. 50% is horrifying. I asked the guy about atrophy and he said it was "impossible" with his low dose. I knew that was horse crap but I still figured it was reasonably safe.

Oh well thank you for your replies

@snowpeaDon't lose heart this can resolve over time. I think saline injections will help, ... if the Dr won't do that you can do a bit of filler here. There is a muscle underneath and perhaps the explains the migration(movement). Naturally it will just take a long time to heal.

When they inject corticosteroids, what they are injecting are micro crystals of Triamcinolone (steroid) suspended in saline. As the saline dissipates overnight, the crystals are lodged in that area and they cause inflammation to go down. They unfortunately can also cause fat atrophy if the concentration is too high.

The numbers "10" and "40" refer to mg/ml. Kenalog 40 is the highest concentration, which should NEVER be used anywhere on the face. For cystic acne lesions, they should never exceed 2.5mg/ml. Be sure to ASK your dermatologist exactly what concentration they are using.

50/50 doesn't mean much, because that could mean 50% of Kenalog 40 in 50% saline. You would literally be injecting the highest concentration of Kenalog. What you want to ask is how many mg / ml (milligrams per millileter), and it should be below 5 mg/ml.

The ONLY time you should go over this is when you are using it in thick hypertrophic scars where the goal IS atrophy.

Saline - the reason why they suggest this is bcause the saline is supposed to help flush the crystals out of that site and be take away by the lympathic system.

I am upset. I had a huge cyst in middle of forehead. It was an eyesore. I had a cortisone injection. Now I have a large circular indentation. I think it is worse. It is the first thing you see. I try to cover it. Takes a lot of time and it really doesn't cover. Needless to say, I am depressed. It is a big dent., round in shape. I heard it will take months. Dermatologist said I may need a filler. Has anyone had this happen? Are fillers permanent? Or will need to keep getting them?

I know this post is from a couple years ago, but has the indent filled in yet? If not I might be able to help,because I had the same exact thing happen to me in the middle of my forehead!

@RainyTurnip Saline injections stimulate the body to heal the atrophy which is temporary for someone who had steriod used. The issue with saline is you have to do it several times, it does not last (few days) unlike filler, the cost of the office visits can add up when filler could have been used. If you do not have atrophy which is what this thread is about that is a different issue for sucbsion and filler. See if the skin is distinsible by pulling apart your fingers, if so filler will help. Saline is of course cheaper and for some people that is a option. Saline as you know is water. The body is stimulated in that spot to heal. Just like if you get a blister the body is healing underneath dude to physical damage.

Hey. I™m sorry I know this post is really old. But I™ve got a cortisone atrophy. And it™s been 6 weeks. I™ve seen a little improvement. I™ve got subcision done, but I don™t think it helped the dent is the same, nobody knows anything about saline injections here in India. Do you think microneedling will help? And what is prp injection?

Hey. I know it™s an old post but I couldn™t help myself. This dent is giving me so much anxiety. I could only find the collagen 1 and 3 tablets. Dr Christopher™s tablets are not available in the area that I will. Are there any alternatives I can try. And how long did it for your dent to completely heal? PLEASE HELP

Hello

I got an cortisone injection done about a month ago and an atrophy appeared after a couple days. Since then I™ve gotten saline injections twice and it hasn™t seemed to help. I™m going to give it some time, if it doesn™t fill in should i go with a filler or does this atrophy look like it will fill in naturally?

@Sim786

my atrophy filled in almost overnight after about a month of waiting and several saline injections which Im not sure if they did anything because I didnt see any difference once the saline was absorbed.

Yours looks much shallower than mine did and mine was on my forehead where theres little muscle and fat. I would do saline injections if you can but also wait it out a month or two and see if it fills back in. Im sure it will.

My (ex) dermatologist injected what he thought was scar tissue with 8mg solution of kenalog, only for me to find out later that is WAY TOO MUCH. It has looked like this for 6 weeks now and I feel like it's still getting worse. It has jagged edges and the skin feels very unhealthy. I have a plastic surgery consult tomorrow, based on pictures he thinks the entire area will need to be excised. I WANT TO SUE, I have cried over what that horrible man has done to my face. My new derm thinks it will fill in. YEA RIGHT.

The best part? I've got this on the other side of my mouth as well, a long line running down the side of my face. I'm a freakshow.

Hi, I know the chances of me getting a reply are slim to none. Was wondering if your atrophy resolved itself? I have something very similar looking.

Hey did yours fill in? I have like several dents on my face due to steroid injections which i got injected about 10mg/ml on my face and now i look horrible the thing is he (my derm) did not injected whole of 10mg at one place so the indentation is not so bad but the area is white (hypopigmentation) do you have any idea how long before it resolves?

Hello everyone. Sorry for the late update as I havent been on this website in a while.
it took about 3-4 months but the dent completely and slowly went away. There is nothing there now and I honestly forgot this had even happened until i saw an email notification from this page.

this had happened to me once before and it completely healed too. So i think they do go away, its just a matter of time.
