It could, you would see it in a few weeks after the injection. It can take a long time for these spots to naturally heal after steriod atrophy. Yes you can do saline(water) injections with the DR or if it's deep enough they can use a bit of filler.

@beautifulambition how long does the injection stay in your system before it leaves? I'm really nervous it's been the end of 2 weeks and I have 3 small indents not noticeable unless I look close in the mirror. Is it possible to stay at this point or it'll get worse? My dermotolgist won't do a flush she said nothing can be done.
@beautifulambition the spots she injected weren't that big of cysts they were actually quiet small. I don't think she should have even done it. Obviously for the 3 spots to diviot 2 weeks later she had a heavy hand I'm not sure but I'm super worried it'll get worse.

My doctor refused to do anything she said wait it out. She also said it could get worse in the 3rd week or stay the way it is. She told me it'll heal in 4 to 6 months. Idkno I feel hopeless and I honestly pray it doesn't get worse. I wish there was a way to stop this. It's the end of week 2 of having the injection. Nd I notice 3 slight depressions on the skin. It's right under each side of my lip in the corners.
@tracy521@ice1234Hello I saw your post on acne.org. I currently am experiencing the same thing! I got an injection in 3 spots on November 16th now it's the 29th and I noticed in each section around the actual cyst the skin is slight depressed. I can feel it with my finger and see it up close in the mirror. My question is will it get worse? Or could this be it and it'll get better? Is there anything I can do to speed up the healing process? It's right under my lip in the corner. I'm a wreck right now
@krissypants30@shadylee@tracy521 hello I am new at this I am in my 3rd week of having a cortisone shot and I'm noticing by my lip where I got the injection it indenting. I am super scared and I'm so affairs it's going to get worse. I herd horror story's about this. Will it fix itself? I'm so worried how long does it take to fill out? Will it get worse?
@Nikki730Please Stop posting on random posts. You just posted on one from 2015, no one will answer from that long ago . I think your freaking out. It's really not that big of a deal. You will heal with time, it can take a few months if it was over injected, but there are quicker solutions as I already stated like saline injections and filler if you need them. Don't worry about how many weeks and all that. If it was injected dilute you would see something in a week or 2. 3 indents will fill back in, it just takes a long timer, please read the above I just typed again. I don't know how your body reacts, ... it should be out of your system in a few days, but if your a poor healer who knows. Please follow up with the Dr, that is what you pay them for. I just told you what can be done if there is a indent, saline injections or filler, this is not a big deal, can happen to some people but fixable. Just wait a few weeks. No one else is going to give you other advise. Anyone with a zit or large cysts can get indents so it's not like inflammation and infection can't make this occurrence happen also. The body is slooooooooooow to heal. My advice, find something else to take your mind off it.

I wanted to get other people's opinions. I am very distraught over this. It's going on the 3rd week after having the injection and I see the dent nd feel the dent getting a slightly bit worse. My doctor and derm told me they never herd of saline injections. After the injections I went to a different dermotolgist she told me that the steroid stays in my body for 4 weeks. That the pimple shouldn't have been injected before they weren't large that she can tell they were over filled. I'm just so upset that it won't fix itself. I start Accutane in 2 days I hope this doesn't effect the healing process. i am 26 female very healthy and never had skin problems till I turned 26.

My doctor said she has not herd of it and she has never done it before. She said the injection effects should have faded out of my system by now so she wasn't sure if it'd make a difference to inject saline in that site. She's willing todo it but just couldn't explain the effects.
Apologies for the name, but i selected random.
Info: I was recently injected with a Kenalog shot into my right cheek, this wasto flatten a slightly raised scar in the area, the scar was so small but it bothered me.Three weeks later i noticed that the skin around the area had sunken. I did not know what it was or why it had happened but after research i realized that it wasfat atrophy.
I was not warned about the potential side affects of corticosteriod's and if i werei would not have had it done, that being said,i went back to the lady who injected me, she was really confused as to why it had happened as she had only injected a small amount. I am hopeful mine will improve because of this.Ihave seen photographs of other peoples atrophys and mine aren't as deep or large, however when something looks worse thanit did before you cant help but feel slightly depressed.
I had my injection at the end of Jan, and 3 weeks later i saw that the area had atrophy'd, for me it wasn't gradual?just one day i got home from work and noticed the skin had sunk?I'm not sure if it was gradual and i had just not noticed? but i was looking at the area everyday to see if the scar had reduced so i gathered i would have noticed it sooner.
Treatment: The first thing i had done was laser treatment, using light and bi-polar radio frequencyto help restore the skin, this did nothing, however i only had 5 tester shots.
2 weeks later i went back and she told me she was going to perform subcision, i googled it myself looking at this video, the way they explained it made sense to me. I would like to point out that the needle used in the videos for subcision was not the needle used on me, The needle she used on me was the same needle size used for fillers. After watching the video i kind of understood why the laser did nothing to me.
I have also started drinking skinaid, it is quite pricey but has scientific proven results for boosting collogen within 30 day trial. I decided to purchase after seeing the results of the skin thickness, i am hoping this will help the indent.

Ive only just started my journey on atrophy and am praying that it will return to normal. I dont know if any of the methods above will work as ive only just started it, but will keep you updated.
My last resort will be filler. This has been a nightmare and i don't think steroid injections should be used unless absolutely necessary!
.
@RainyTurnipFor steriod atrophy you do not need subcision typically. IT's pointless. Have you Dr try to do saline ()water) injections several times as is mentioned in these many pages. Sounds like she educated you wrong about treatment, subcision is to break scar tethers, ... you have collagen loss. IT will come back in time and takes a year typically. This is why people do saline injections or filler works. Laser will do nothing for this as the skin needs to regenerate.
@beautifulambitionokay, thank you for your advice! Do you recommend saline injections more than normal filler? I am scared to have filler as i have heard when not injected properly it can cause thetyndall effect. Will having a filler slow the natural healing process? Also what filler is best to treat fat atrophy usually? Thanks for your time!!
@RainyTurnipYou can try Saline injections if the Dr will do them. Many want to only do filler. You will be fine with filler, tell them you don't want the blue cast, ... do something soft for the surface, many fillers. No your body replaces the filler and it's absorbed over time.
You don't have fat atrophy, it's dermal. This comes back over time. There is Bellafill but I would never get this, permanent is permanent. Try the HA and healing first.
@beautifulambition What is in saline injections that help for this problem? @beautifulambition
@RainyTurnipSaline injections stimulate the body to heal the atrophy which is temporary for someone who had steriod used. The issue with saline is you have to do it several times, it does not last(few days) unlike filler, the cost of the office visits can add up when filler could have been used. If you do not have atrophy which is what this thread is about that is a different issue for sucbsion and filler. See if the skin is distinsible by pulling apart your fingers, if so filler will help. Saline is of course cheaper and for some people that is a option. Saline as you know is water. The body is stimulated in that spot to heal. Just like if you get a blister the body is healing underneath dude to physical damage.
Hi,
i received a cortisone shot in a small but persistent cyst on my forehead about a month ago. Within a week the skin started to cave in pretty badly leaving a long dent about the size of half my index finger. Has anyone experienced this? My dermatologist did not warn me about this effect and since doing research Ive seen that it is uncommon but the forehead is esp vulnerable to these dents. I feel really depressed and worried about the likely chance it will fill in any time soon if at all. My doctor has been giving me saline shots (3 so far) and no Improvement from these. In some lighting it just looks like a weird dark mark In other lighting like florescuent it looks horrible. Looking for any stories about this occurring and if it recovered or treatments that helped it to heal, fill in or cover it up. Thank you!
@LiraleeVery Very common issue and easy to fix if you have patience. Goto a dermatologist that does subcison, have them subcise the atrophy area and inject itwith saline(water) or some filler. This atrophy takes a year to heal naturally. This is a dangerous area with veins / muscles / etc so goto someone experienced. IF they won't do filler again many sessions of saline injections and subcision with a cannula or normal needle.
There is a whole mega thread about this in the main scar treatmetns sub, at the top pinned. Also see the FAQ, bottom of that are some doctors.
hi thanks for your help, Ive seen a few threads recently about the atrophy and it seems like some peoples fill in and others dont. Very stressful and hard not to obsess over what feels like a deformity.Im looking to talk to my derm about subcision but she wants me to wait. I also read online about fat transfers which seems scary. Not sure I want to go the filler route. Thanks for your help!
@LiraleeMany fill in, ... it is being proactive about it that is best instead of ignoring it. I would never do fat here, ... this is a very dangerous area to inject a permanent filler, and fat is not the body can absorb it, it's lumpy, and unpredictable, invasive harvesting surgery. HA is much safer. HA filler is naturally found in our bodies, can be reversed. But if your anti filler, see if your Dr will inject you many times with saline to start with to stimulate natural healing. Many will not as it takes more than say some filler there.
Your derm is wanting you to heal naturally. Speak it them about saline injections, this is very safe, it's just water and lasts a few days but stimulates your issue, it's not a filler, but you have atrophy and this has worked in those cases.
A alternative, ...Perhaps try Chinese cupping on it(Amazon) if you wish, you will bruise so have some thick concealer nearby. Use moderate pressure each day.
