Thats dope that it filled in!! I really appreciate your update. Im going through it right now and it gives me hope knowing that yours healed. Debating on getting filler at my derm appointment tomorrow but I may hold back now as its only been 2 months. It feels like it hasnt improved in the past 2 months, though it sounds like your progression was the same. Thank you again!

@orchird Some members have said theirs popped back in but let me know how the fillers go if you go through with it. I think the hypopigmentation may go away once its popped back up whether naturally or with fillers.

I have read through this whole thread and hoping anyone can help! As a few of you know how distressing this atrophy can be from a cortisone shot!

I had one like a month ago; have done so in past and if it ever left a dent I went back for a drop of filler. This time I have a HUGE dent on my cheek and the filler hasnt worked! Done it like 2 times now and subcision was done as well. Its been over a month now and it seems the filler is just doing nothing ifanything its worse. AND Ive noticed small hairs growing on the dark spot of the dent.

plsssss anyone tell me this gets better?! The fact that filler isnt working is panicking me!
any success stories to give me some peace of mind! Its so upsetting honestly and In certain lighting it Just completely leaves me in shock as it looks so severe!

@slothysnoop123 yeah it does get better. I DMd crushed and spoke with her. I did a couple saline injections but not sure if they helped. Time was definitely the thing that worked. Took like 6 months for me. Sorry youre going through this. I have read every single post on this thread multiple times myself. You will get through this so hang in there.

@dentonface thank you SO MUCH for the reply. I am so distressed about my dent, and hearing that yours has improved gives me hope. Did you have any discoloration at all? I feel like mine is hypo and hyper pigmented at the same time. Im trying to stay positive but every time I look in the mirror it is so discouraging.

Hi all

just thought Id return to give an update as Im sure it will help people.
so I had my cortisone shot mid November? Crazy atrophy on my cheek followed all through December to mid January even looked like it was getting worse! Went to another dr as all the filler I added made it worse! So he said to leave alone he said saline is useless as the solution is gone and its the result of the fat shrinking and told me to get a derma roller .5 and do nightly on the area. Im not sure if it was that or time but it started to fill up. At first I didnt believe and thought maybe I was swollen but just kept getting better. Literally the crater in my face was all through November to mid January. It changed that week I started dermarolling.
the odd hair I had growing there was a good sign I guess something brewing and they apparently use the shots to stimulate hair growth. The odd patch of hair is gone it filled up and I just have a small hyperpigmentation spot which is no big deal after having a crater on my face!!
im not sure what happened this time as my dr is very experienced and honestly I loved cortisone shots for the odd blemish. I have alot of events and they always make an appearance then! No other time. My dr in the states uses a laser if I feel something coming so not sure what Ill do in the future. This summer they used a cortisone shot and I had a bit of a dent and filled it in with filler like in past and they dont even charge me. But this time it was not working on my cheek. I say this as if you have the atrophy on chin etc try fillet it usually helped me in past.
I also must say I took a crazy amount of collagen. Supplements and bone broth lol I dont know if it helped but my knees cracked less so a win nonetheless.
I think time and stimulation helped me. Worth trying dermarolling!
best of luck

HiA@Liralee, have you been seeing progress with your atrophy?A

I recently had a deep atrophy after getting a cortisone shot injectedAthat appearedAover a month ago.AI wasAdevastated after it sunk in and left me with a deep dent (bigger than my cyst) that I figured would stay on my face for months.A

Iave found products thataveA(almost) healed the deep crevice,Aso I figured Iad drop them for you, seeing as they were relatively cheap, natural and didnat require surgery or fillers.

A

a Doctors Best: Collagen Types 1 and 3 with Peptan 1000 mg tablets (taking two pills twice a day)

a Dr. Christopheras Complete Bone & Tissue 440Amg tablets (taking two pills twice a day)

a Dr. Christopheras Complete Bone & TissueAtopical ointment (applying/massagingAinto the dent atAnight)

A

Keep in mind this has helped my face TREMENDOUSLY in just three weeks, see attached for my progress photos.

I hope these suggestions help, or that youare on your way to healing fast! I really think having time and patience with skin is key to seeing results. Try your best not to overthinkAit too much (even though I know thatas hard) andAlet your body do the healing. Best of luck to you!

Hi, I am new here. I had a cortisone injection into my cheek end of Dec and noticed some mild issues in April and by May it is seriously sunken in and much larger than the actual pimple that was injected..it looks like it is traveling down my cheek! I went to a plastic surgeon and he said he was almost certain it was the steroid and so did 2 new derms.. They all said it should resolve on its own in time...I have been offered filler but do not want o complicate the issue. It is really hard to have this in the middle of my face as you all know and in certain light..OMG! I am also beyond anxious that this is permanent. I had the injection 5 months ago and it was not until April I saw an issue brewing and by this month...I look maimed. Please be kind in your responses as I feel so defeated. Thank you and I am so sorry you all have had to go through your own upsets and thrilled for all of you that recovered. So very nice that you all come together to help and support one another.

@dentedinny hi there! I am experiencing something similar to you. Im here as support because I know what were going through is tough. how is the dent looking today? I got a cortisone injection for a spot on the side of my forehead at the end of April of this year and noticed three weeks later that there was an indent. I went into for a saline injection and actually think it got worse or at least looked worse. Ive had 3 saline injections total and am not really seeing much progress and am feeling sad and defeated. This thread gave me hope though reading that others went away. How are you doing? Are you doing anything like saline or filler? Sending you good vibes, we are in this together! <3

Does anyone have any tips for getting through dealing with atrophy or indents? Or any stories of hope? I looked through this thread and it was so helpful. Wondering if there are any other suggestions! Feeling very hopeless 🙁

Megan 91, I am so so sorry you are going through this. I am really anxious and sad all the time over this and even tho I have had a plastic surgeon and 2 derms tell me that this is temporary and will self correct, I feel so defeated. I am grateful to others here like Dan and Crushed who have given so much support and encouragement. When I look at pics btwn Jan and May I think the dent was starting and it was slow and almost over night come May it was like the sink hole just opened and it traveled down my vein to my jaw line. I have done a round of V beam which significantly improved the blue hue and reds. I also did a round of softwave that stimulates collagen and will do another 3 weeks later. I am contemplating saline but holding off on filler as I do not want to complicate the issue. I am taking massive amounts of Vitamin C, D, and Collagen. I have a red light celluma at home that I am using daily. I am putting Retin A on twice daily along with estrogen cream and topical Vitamin C. That is where I am at today...the shot was Dec 26th and the dent began probably Feb but the real notice was end of April start of May. I am now stable and I do think improving somewhat but certainly have a long way to go. I just hope like others here that it is temporary. Thank you all for being here to support one another. It means a lot! FYI..Left is May 30th and Right photo is today, June 13th so two weeks later. In certain lighting it is worse than others tho 🙁

@dentedinny hi dentedinny, Im glad we can talk about this with one another! Its so incredibly frustrating and anxiety provoking but having others to talk to about it has definitely made me feel a little bit better. Im glad your plastic surgeon and derm have both said that its temporary. It also sounds like youre doing a lot to try to combat the indent like treatments, supplements, creams, etc. Have you noticed a difference with them? Anything been specifically helpful? I also just bought vitamin c and retin a to see if that can help expedite the process at all. How are you doing today? I think the photos look pretty good and I dont think its very noticeable! There seems to be improvement over a few weeks which is great. I totally understand about the lighting though. At times it feels like its improving and then different lighting makes it look so much worse. Thats interesting that your dent became most noticeable months after the initial injection. I do think that trying a saline injection couldnt hurt. It can help to flush out any leftover cortisone and can help promote healing. Ive had several and didnt think I saw much progress but I'm starting to see a little and I think it stopped the dent from getting deeper. Is saline something youd be open to? Im here if you need anything. This indent has really impacted my day to day and made me extremely self conscious and want to isolate. I know we can get through this though especially because it should be temporary

Hi Megan 91, yes, it is very nice that we have one another to lean on. I am finding this to be extremely challenging in regards to anxiety and upset. I have this feaer it is not temporary and I feel it looks worse than I am assured by my doctors that it is. I feel anxious all of the time these days and very in my own head. I am also isolating and extremely self conscious. There really is no good way to conceal a dent. The different lighting where it looks so much worse sets me into a tail spin! I am glad you are feeling yours is improving and appreciate your honesty regarding mine. I think having other objective eyes is also important for us. As for what is helping, it is hard to say but I think the V beam helped a lot with the pigment and started blow flow back into the area. As for the soft-wave, I will have one every 2 weeks so this coming Tuesday is the 2nd one. It is too soon to tell what is working and what is just time working. I am not opposed to the saline but my doctor feels that mine was so irregular and down my cheek they did not want to add a possibly big large bruise on top of the indented crooked line down my face. I do bruise easily. She feels that the soft-wave achieves the fluid impact to flush things out as well as the saline without invasively having to pierce the skin and potentially cause bruising. So, I will do this for a bit and see and if not better by end of July I will do the saline with diluted filler so that it looks better to my eyes, I hope, while it finishes healing. Do you have pics of your progress? You feel the saline has now started to work for you? So so happy for you!! I just need to keep hearing it is temporary and on the road to recovery. Here for you too! Cannot wait til we can celebrate this being in the rear view!

@dentedinny I totally relate to you and the anxiety you feel. It's so overwhelming and really takes over. Today was a bad day for me. I spent the majority of it inside isolated and crying. I'm trying to get out of this pattern but it really is so hard. I agree that having objective eyes is important for us! We are our own worst critics. Can you tell me more about the soft wave and the v beam? I've never heard of either of them before this! Are you getting them done at the derm? That totally makes sense about the saline injections. Depending on the person and the location of the dent, there is a chance of bruising which isn't ideal for an already noticeable or sensitive area! At this point I am going to continue with saline injections for another few weeks to see if that can make more of a difference. And if it doesn't get much better by the end of the summer, I may get filler because I need some peace of mind. I haven't been taking too many pictures honestly (embarrassed of my face) but I'll try to take one in the morning to show how it's looking these days. We are gonna get through this!! It doesn't feel like it for me in this moment but I know we are resilient from experiencing this and it will resolve soon. Grateful to be able to talk to you about this!!

Megan 91, I get those bad days. I am so sorry you had one yesterday and hope today is a bit better for us both! No worries about pics! Personally, I am trying to wean myself off of taking them as it never helps. So good for you for not at least engaging in that self sabotage. V beam is a pulsed dye laser that helps break up blood clots and broken capillaries. It restores pigment. And soft wave therapy is energy that is used to enhance blood flow and stem cell activity to help repair damaged tissue. So, here is to hoping that every few weeks that treatment will help regenerate my skin in the atrophied area. Good luck with the saline! I will def consider that too as this process goes on. I cannot wait for it to be over! Sending support and virtual hugs!

@dentedinny Thanks so much for your support <3 The last several days have been really hard for me. I honestly think my dent is getting worse, not better. I have a consultation on Thursday for filler because the dent is causing me so much distress. I'll keep you posted on how it goes! How are you doing?

Hi Megan 91. I am so sorry that the last few days have been so difficult. I totally get it and understand. I went today for my 2nd soft-wave and will see how that goes for me. I am looking forward to hearing about your appt for filler. I did discuss saline and diluted filler today with my derm and she says since mine is not getting worse it is actually in her opinion getting much better that she would do the soft wave which introduces edema to flush out the kenalog as well as helps to actually build collagen. She would not do both right now and wait and see how I am doing and can always fill add the saline and filler to camo the indent. She reiterated she sees this a lot and it always heals in time even if you do nothing. I told you that another highly regarded derm and plastic surgeon said the same thing! I guess we must try to have faith that skin takes time to heal like any other body part. We are intervening so it should speed up the process of healing but nobody can give an exact time line. BTW, no matter what anyone else says I still see it has horrible and fear it will never get better. I think we have been traumatized. We can not rely on our lying eyes but the objective eye of the professionals. So, that is what I am trying to do. I do think if I am not feeling a lot better about things next month I will add some saline and filler to mask this as it continues to heal. Wishing you nothing but the best and keep me posted!! Sending support and hugs your way!
