- Thank you for replying dsk 76 I have never posted on here before and I feel desperate for some hope that this will repair on its own , I have read all thru past posts and its the only thing that has made me feel better reading about other peoples positive outcomes. I cant believe I let this happen I have learnt a big lesson for this I trusted a dermatologist never in a million years did I think this could happen all she said to me was it might not get rid of the cyst nothing about causing a dent in my face . Its been a very emotional 4 weeks for me . Im trying to be positive eat really healthy taking collagen lots of vitamins drinking loads of water all in the hope that this will repair . Any way thank goodness this thread was on here its been good for me to read.
@dentonface thank you SO MUCH for the reply. I am so distressed about my dent, and hearing that yours has improved gives me hope. Did you have any discoloration at all? I feel like mine is hypo and hyper pigmented at the same time. Im trying to stay positive but every time I look in the mirror it is so discouraging.
Hi everyone. Just thought I would come on here to give anyone struggling some hope. I got 2 areas injected with cortisone and was left with 2 very large dents. I was distraught and devastated after this happened. I thought things would never get better, I wore hats all the time and even cut bangs to try to hide the areas. I had a few rounds of saline injections (which didnt seem to do much) and eventually things improved completely. I would say it took about 6 months or so but everything went back to normal. I attached photos of the dents and now. Keep your heads up!
I feel very depressed about what has happened to my skin its been just over 6 weeks now the only thing that is giving me any hope is to come on here and read these posts even if it improved 50% I would be happier I can not believe I let some one do this to me I seriously did not know the side effects of a steroid injection. If this would have happened by an acne spot I could have accepted it but its like a big un natural dent on the side of my face its all I see when I look in the mirror . Im 45 so my skin doesnt heal as fast I guess . I know Iv to be patient and give it time and hopefully things will get better.
@Wednesday1980 I feel the exact same way. Its very difficult and I struggle with the recovery process daily, holding my breath that it will bounce back. Mine was a double hit, a long dent on my forehead and a dent in my cheek. Everyones stories and success posts give me hope.
@shopgirl552 when did yours happen ? Have you done any thing to it to speed things up , mine was the 24th of June and all Ive been doing is massaging the area I went to another dermatologist in London this time and she said leave it awhile and if it doesnt improve then subsion would help. I can see a dent the size of a coin then another dent inside thats and the area is white . The dermatologist could only see the white mark and a very slight dent but thats not what Im seeing obviously looks worse in different lighting . I must of been mad to let the dermatologist do this to me I actually ask for it but I didnt know the side effects amd she didnt explain it to me just said to me it wont make things worse! Omg she has left me with an inch scar well thats how I feel . Hope things heal for you soon @shopgirl552 let me know how you get on
Hi @Wednesday1980, my cortisone shot was 5/15 & 5/30 (different spots but unfortunately did two rounds, things looked fine at the time). Almost 4 weeks to the day my dents appeared and got worse for a bit. My forehead is about an inch long (you can really feel the drop off) and my cheek is a dent isnt as big but its a little cavern. I did one round of micro needling b/c its said to help stimulate collagen production. Im expecting so more rounds of micro needling are put on pause. In general Im just trying to eat as well as I can and take good care of my skin. Ive been contemplating saline shots based on others feedback but concerned about the possible bruising side effects.
I have good days and bad and definitely feel self conscious about it, if I could pull off bangs I would! Its a waiting game unfortunately.
Hi @shopgirl552 I am doing the same trying to eat healthy taking lots of vitamins and drinking Skinaid for collagen when I went to the dermatologist in London she said if I still have an indented scar in a few months subcision and inject Polynucleotide to promote collagen I mentioned about the saline injections but she never really said any thing . The derm who done this to me was in Gloucester I phoned her with concerns how my skin was reacting and I said to her you never said this could happen all you said is that it might not get rid of the cyst (which was tiny) she had no notes on how much steroid she had put in nothing then the next day I had a letter from her with all lies in it saying she told me of the side effects and the amount she had inject like a low amount she must of made up became she never had no notes on it when I phoned her . I feel so let down like I have been violated I would never go back to her she shouldnt be a doctor! All she said was micro needling might help . Sorry to rant but so upset . I wish I would of never have touched my face. Iv got to be positive tho and try and improve this and there is a lot of positive comments on here which gives me hope . Hopefully yours will heal soon I think when your expecting your skin is different then it normally is I found mine healed quicker and when I had the babys my skin was the best it had ever been. Please keep in touch and let me know how you get on .
@dentedinny Hi, do you know how much saline your doctor used each time? My nurse pratcioner I feel like isn't using enough looking at all the studies it seems they really flush the area. She has only been using .05ml and not even levelling the dent to the skin? Mine is about the size of a penny right in my cheek.
@dentedinny Thanks for that. Would you say the saline helped overall along with time or what helped the most?
Hi @shopgirl552 - i was wondering if you could please update us on if the dent filled in - actually, i have two dents on each side of the forehead that look exactly like yours 😭 its been about two months for me since I received the shots and they seem to have filled in a little but you can definitely see them in certain lighting. My doctor told me that filler in this area is dangerous, and somehow no one performs saline injections where I live (might be useless at this point anyway). thank you in advance ! xx
For reference, here is where Im at now in certain lighting it looks horrendous to me, like Im perpetually frowning. But I was advised that HA filler wouldnt do much and that it is also very dangerous (vascular occlusion) /may cause filler migration in this area or lumps later on.
The doctor told me to just wait until 6 months have passed to reassess, potentially try some biostimulator injections but thats also not guaranteed (or very cheap!). Ive been quite depressed and antisocial as a result lately.
Hi @mochi88, I am so sorry that this has happened to you and youre going through all of this, its really challenging and I know I struggled a lot. In terms of my story, I am happy to share that my dents did fill in and my skin looks completely normal once again. It took about 3 months but one day it just bounced back - kind of overnight and continuously got better. Part of me thinks it was my pregnancy at the time helping to speed up the process (for reference- I was 35) but I also think your body knows what to do and will repair without any added injections. Personally I would avoid filler because its risky and you just dont know the outcome.I did keep up a habit of monthly facials but it was more to make me feel better about my skin overall. I think the best thing you can do is to take good care of yourself, eat well, hydrate, and stay positive. It will get better!!!For reference, here is where Im at now in certain lighting it looks horrendous to me, like Im perpetually frowning. But I was advised that HA filler wouldnt do much and that it is also very dangerous (vascular occlusion) /may cause filler migration in this area or lumps later on.

@shopgirl552 thank you so much for replying 🙂 I am so relieved to hear you healed completely! Im just going to wait a few more weeks until the 3 month mark, but already my dents seem to have filled in a lot - you cant notice them except in side lighting. Fingers crossed, if anyone wants to see updates let me know xx
Hey guys! I have a few questions.
The first signs of the dent on my forehead appeared on April 16th. I didnt notice it however until about a week after (it set in more). A few days after that I went to get a saline injection which temporarily (48hrs) filled the dent after which it came back and I even noticed it had perhaps expanded upward creating that sort of line effect on my forehead some of u have. The following week I came back for another injection. I told the dermatologist about the dent moving upwards and expanding so she injected more saline into both areas. This again filled the area for 48 hours maybe a little longer. And then the dent came back. The upper dent seems to be recovering but the lower one almost seems to be getting deeper.
is it possible the steroid is still in the area and causing continued damage after two saline injections? Or have some of you found that your dents appear deeper as they shrink in diameter bc of shadows and stuff.
I hope this makes sense. Ive probably just been staring at my face too long and am seeing things but i swear it seems deeper. Im gonna start taking pictures. But does anyone have thoughts or advice?
@Sim786 I know this is old but do you have pics of ur dent?my atrophy filled in almost overnight after about a month of waiting and several saline injections which Im not sure if they did anything because I didnt see any difference once the saline was absorbed.
Yours looks much shallower than mine did and mine was on my forehead where theres little muscle and fat. I would do saline injections if you can but also wait it out a month or two and see if it fills back in. Im sure it will.
