anyone know whats the safest strength to prevent atrophy for a hypertropic scar?

Who knows. I thought I had .5 injected into mine. But I requested my records and turns out it was only .1! Which is such a small amount. I'm thinking it wasn't diluted enough. I think there's always a chance no matter what the solution amount is.

Ohhh! No, it was a cystic pimple. Not a hypertropic scar

Hi Everyone,

I got an injection into a small cyst (my -now ex- derm recommended it and said indents were highly unlikely) on Nov 8. About a week later I noticed a small indentation and since then the indent has grown bigger. It was right in the middle of my forehead so I am now left with a round hole right in the middle of my forehead which is super embarassing. I am older than most posters on this thread (30) so am worried about collagen production. When I asked my ex-derm he said "oh it may take a few weeks". I went to a new derm to get another opinion and she said that it should take a few weeks to a few months to fill in, and that saline would not make any permanent difference, just temporary fill in (and possible bruising). How long did your indents take to start filling in/ fill in? Do you have any advice/ suggestions? Any thoughts/ experiences with fillers? The hole in my head is all I see when I see my reflection and it is giving me a lot of anxiety. Thank you in advance!

I wanted to ask if anyone has experienced hypo pigmentation from the kenalog. Now that mine is about 80% resolved, I noticed it has hypo pigmented .

It seems like everyone's experience is different. Some people's dents filled in within a matter or weeks and some even 3 months. I had mine occur in June and its still not gone. I'm almost 27. While the hugeeeeee dent has pretty much filled in, the skin is still thinner. It looks like that top layer of plump skin is missing. It's been very depressing to me. It's been 6 months. There's times when I think it might be permanent.

I'm doing saline injections and have had 3 of them. It has helped but not a whole lot. I need to have about 6 more according to my Derm. I would go for the saline injections to help speed up the process. I had a bruise the second time I had the saline done. Then for my 3rd injection, I iced before and after and did not have a bruise occur. The saline is really my last hope.

I've talked to several people and derms and there is no for sure answer. Anywhere from a few weeks to months to possibly permanent. BUT my Derm did say that she's never seen it be permanent on the face. Maybe by the one year mark, mine will be gone.

It's been a very long 6 months. I have tried to ignore it and hope that one morning I'll wake up and it's gone. But that hasn't happened yet. So it's still consuming my life.

And also, I did have filler back in July. It's almost completely dissolved now. But honestly, if you still have it a month or two from now, I would do filler. It filled the DEEP dent in beautifully. I used Perlane.

Just had my 4th saline injection today. I think I might be getting a bruise. It feels tender like the 2nd time I had it done and I bruised. It seems like she's more aggressive every other time. Maybe a certain technique?

An update on my dent - still slowly improving, probably 95% better than at its worst. It's been about 7 months since the cortisone shot. I had 3 saline injections around the 4-5 month mark that seemed to help a bit but caused terrible bruising.

If I could go back in time I would get a filler. I'm pretty much feeling fine about it now but it ruled my life for too long and made me so depressed.

I think it'll take 9-12 months to really heal. And age might slow things down - I'm in my early 30's.

You Are right around the same time frame as mine. January 5th will be 7 months for me. Mines probably about 85% better than it was at its worst. I've done 4 saline injections. I am scheduled for another one in 2 weeks. I'm worried that the saline injections might be causing the discoloration to further (from the needle injection). Did your color return to normal after the bruising?

The saline did seem to make the discolouration worse for a while, guess it irritated the veins in that area which is what I think causes that bluish hue. Mine is very gradually getting better along with the indentation. A touch of concealer covers it up.

Ok that's reassuring. I thought it was getting worse or something.

The color was going back to normal (I had an IPL 2 weeks ago) then the saline injection I had on Monday seemed to bring back the different colors. And I can't get another IPL for 2 weeks :-(

Not sure if anyone is following this still. But I still want to document everything for myself and for anyone in the future who has this occur.

I had my 5th saline injection yesterday. This time I did not bruise, but in one small area, it looks like a small cluster of blood under the skin. I think it's due to the swelling and stretching of the skin. It almost looks like a bruise from the needle but isnt where she injected. weird i know. And I took a HOT shower after, which probably caused more swelling. My skin in this area has gone through some really weird changes. My last saline injection actually caused the skin in the atrophy to CRACK and bleed a little bit a few days after the saline.

Anyways, I'll be so glad when this is all over. My Derm said she doesn't think it will be permanent and supposedly I'll see the most improvement after the 6th session. I really trust this Derm office. I'm seeing one of Dr. Sire's (the Derm who founded this treatment) colleagues. I really trust everyone at this office. My Derm NEVER ONCE tried to push the laser thing at me. I actually brought it up to her! And she said....well lets see how it looks after the 9th saline treatment, I really don't think you will need it. In fact, she actually complimented my skin yesterday. I swear, I almost cried. I've never once had a Derm tell me that my skin looks great. Now that the acne is virtually gone, this atrophy has become a huge issue for me and I can't wait until its GONE!

If anyone has any further questions regarding kenalog atrophy, please feel free to contact me. I swear, I have become an expert in this. I can't even tell you how many articles and studies I have read regarding this.

Jenna Bean...thanks for the updates. Going through this atrophy situation can be so frustrating so any and all information about others experiences is so helpful.

On that note, just a quick update on my situation. I had my cortisone injection on June 28, 2013...atrophied about a week later. I OBSESSED over this atrophy and would have bet anything that it was permanent. The atrophy was all I thought about some days. Thankfully, 6 plus months later it has filled in!! I did have 4 saline injections. Not sure what helped, however, the saline or just time. Best of luck to others in this situation...please give it time.

2worriedmom, thanks for writing in! I have an atrophy from a shot I got on September 2nd. It has improved some (and I initially wrote in in October under a different name) thinking that it would be gone soon because I got pretty good improvement quickly so I expected it to heal the rest of the way soon. However, fast forward 3 months and it is still there. Like I said, it's much better but still very noticeable in certain lights :'( my question is: did yours take the full 6 months to improve? Was the improvement gradual throughout the whole time or did you just wake up and it was gone? I am so sick of this thing I could just throw up! Any info would be so so helpful! Thanks in advance! I am so happy for u!

I had a super bad dent on the side of my chin from picking once, looked horrible for a long time, probably because the skin is thinner there and the tissue swells up funny but that is the one scar that did get a lot better to where it doesn't bother me anymore. I did needle it quite a bit, I think subcision can work well there. Also massage it. I bet in time you chin spots look a lot better. Now my cheek scars just don't want to improve much anymore. They did get some better over time, but not like the chin area. Try the filler, but in my experience fillers never worked good. Try not too see your life's value as how you look right now. Don't let scars own you like that. I have learned to be tougher and generally not base my happiness on superficial things. Also, the dermaflage didn't work for me either. It just doesn't work for wide depressions.

i read you had a bit of raised/hypertropic scar...have u found something that works?

i woulda PMed u but i wasnt able to

So I had my 6th saline injection today. I was really debating on canceling it since I bruised last time. And of course......I freaking bruised again!!! And I took arnica starting on Friday! So it pissed me off that I still bruised! I wanted to do atleast 6 of them. My Derm recommended 9 of them. But I think I'm done. When it bruises, it stresses me out even more and makes the area look much more noticeable!! I was feeling good about my skin today, and well, now im not, and I'm in a pissed of mood. I have seen results which Is why I keep going. If the bruise wasn't there, the area would look a whole lot better. Now I have to deal with it for 3-5 days. So frustrating. The saline does work though. You have to be patient though and of course, deal with the possible bruising that can occur.

Hi! I dont have acne scars, but i have steroid atrophy on my face after using topical steroids. My skin is very thin, it's like a paper.

Had anyone isolagen or LaViv treatment here? Derma said that it can help to improve my skin. She said that my skin can become thicker and much improve quality.

Is it true?

Sory for my english.

Just wanted to give another update since I know those are helpful when you're dealing with this. It is now about 10 months since my atrophy appeared. I'm pleased with my healing. It is not perfectly healed - because it is on the edge of my chin, I can see there is atrophy underneath the skin with certain expressions but I have to really look for it. No one else would see it. The bluish discolouration is still there a tiny bit as well but it continues to fade.

Mine was significantly better at the 6 month mark, but has continued to heal after that, so do NOT think that if you're at 6 months it's permanent. It's the slowest thing to heal, and probably the worst thing I've dealt with in terms of acne.
