You must be extremely careful taking steroids - can't stop them too quicky, have to be "weaned" off. Please see a Dr. if you wish to take steroids.

OursFan,

The Medrol tablets come in a blister-pack that weans me off the steriod, slowly, over a period of 7 days. I'm following the directions just as I did when I took them in July. So far, it seems to be helping quite a bit, in that the "size" of the cysts are dramatically smaller (though still there). I'm hoping now that they're decreasing in size, I can manage them with a topical or something else.

Kiki

I'm sorry about your skin giving you a hard time. I know it really sucks when you think, I've finally gotten on top of this and then you have a flare up. Is it possible that the dermabrasion caused this? I had a surgeon tell me that he resurfaced a woman's face, for wrinkle reduction purposes, at the age of 50 and she experienced a breakout. She had never had a problem with acne. Although aggressive treatments are the most productive in the end....they are incredibly invasive and really traumatic for your skin. Couldn't this be the best possible explanation for the underlying cause of the onset of cysts under your skin?

I knew the above would arise and now everyone will freak out because derma causes a break-out after it and you "could" scar again so what's the point and so on....

I reccomend calling Dr.Y and ask him directly if the break-out could be related to the dermabrasion.

Honestly at times i'm confused, isn't acne an internal problem, diet etc.

I guess we never win.

I'm having a breakout PRE-dermabrasion.

This is so frustrating. I've contacted Dr. Y's office and will talk to Cassandra on Monday. I'll post here what she instructs me to do/take.

I never had forehead acne.... never had "simple" acne... my forehead looks like 100 fire ants where there recently.

I had active acne at the time I had my first dermabrasion with no resulting complications. I found that I actually had a reduction in breakouts after each procedure. Ususally a breakout will occur after the skin heals due to all the heavy ointments, etc...but that is different from a return of cystic acne. I would give Dr. Y a ring to get his thoughts on the matter.

How much longer until Dr. Y retires? Also, this may be a stupid question, but I'm assuming you all went to New Orleans to see him for a consultation before scheduling dermabrasion with him? (as opposed to just sending him photos or something)

portlandboy this happened to me like a week ago, i am using queen helene mint julep mark (available at walgreens) and it seems to calm it down, i was having clogged pores wich led to pimples, never had "pimples" on my forehead before.

Animergirle- be sure to keep those post derma pics coming

I'll post some new pictures tomorrow....basically it's more of the same pink and peeling, though not as bad.

Punch floats can be done on boxcar and icepick scars.

**Zinc Oxide works well in helping to dry up pimples.

You can get zinc oxide at Walgreens or any pharmacy. It should be located in the first aide aisle. I have found that it helps dry pimples and causes them to come to a head faster. Are you still using the Aveeno products? What skin care routine do you use?

Hey Kiki,

I had an aesthetician tell me that break outs on the lower portion of the face (below nose) are hormonal. She also said that keeping the colon clean is important for acne reduction. I don't know if there is any science behind her comments, but interesting anyway.

Misty. Quick question. You have said you use Zinc Oxide. That is something typically found in diaper rash creams, for its soothing properties, which are however very thick and oily and not something I would want to put on my face biggrin.gif Could you tell me the name of the cream you use and do you know whether it is available at Walmart? We don't have Walgreens N. of the Border, just Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharma Plus and of course Walmart eusa_dance.gif

When using Neturagena's "On-The-Spot" acne treatment.... does your skin turn red after applying? redface.gif

It almost seems I'm having a reaction to it but I'm not sure if this is normal. eusa_think.gif

Thanks!!!!

I am flying to NO to get punch floats this week coming up! I plan on getting boxcar type and ice pick types done (the kind I have). I will be flying back the same day. I had to take off from work for a week just so I wouldn't be asked a million times what's on my face. Hopefully I would be healed by then. I am vey excited. Not sure as to how many to do. Maybe ten, I will ask the Doc what he thinks. I will keep you guys updated!

Animegirle or anybody,

I'm thinking of getting Punch grafts.

It take skin from behind of your ear and suture the skin.

Do you see the suture line after dermabrading the skin?

I'm planning Punch grafts for my nose and cheeks.

Please let me know. Thanks.

I finally met with Dr. Yarborough and had 20 punch floats done. He is a very understanding doctor. I really felt at ease and had extreme trust in him. Sorry, I do not have any pics up of my post floats. It looks just like Misty's except I had three done just under the eye area and it makes me look like a footbll player b/c the blood had dried into a line. My comp is running slow but I will try to work a way t post pics ok ( no promises). But I just wanted everyone to hear me out when I say I can not wait to have my dermabrasion done by his doctor and his extremely helpful assistant Cassandra! They were wonderul!! The best part is that it was not painful. I don't like needles but I just moaned under my breath the first couple of times. I am not sure how many times I got stuck but I did have 20 done! The punches itself, I could not feel anything. I had my eyes closed the whole time so all I heard was some kind of string or something going back and forth. When it was all over he let me look in the hand mrror before Cassandra put the strips on. All my scars were surfaced but pretty much "floating" and the circles are healed to your normal skin in the days to come. It is difficult to explain but very interesting! Dr. Y is a very comforting person and almost had me teary eyed for his thoughtfulness.

Hi sunblock,

I am having a consult with Dr. Y on Monday, so I guess I will get all my questions answered, but I was just wondering...were a few of the spots you had floated pretty close together (since you said the scabs ran together?) I had always wondered if this would be an issue. Also, in your post on the other thread you mentioned that the rest of your scars (the ones not floated?) were shallow ice pick scars. What kind did you have floated, and did you discuss how much the dermabrasion would help the shallow ones? I thought shallow ice picks could be floated, but I guess it's not worth it if they're shallow enough.

Thanks! Happy healing. I am glad you are on your way.

dolmal,

Yes, I will be there next Monday at 8:30, bright and early. Unfortunately I have to leave for the airport right after, but I am flying in on Saturday and staying with friends.
