To Curious,

I had ice pick and boxcar types done. The ones under my left eye were boxcar types and they weren't close together necessarily but the blood had made a fine line across them but this was after I had left and noticed it on the airport. You shouldn't have a problem with some being close because I did have some fairly close but the technique is very precise! The cab ride was $28 there and 28 back to the airport.

I would say that my shallower ones are shallow enought that I feel dermabrasion would pretty much take care of them. They are easily covered by make-up already.

Thanks for the support and good luck to those who are going in for the floats. No pain really and you'll love Cassandra and the doc.

By the way Dr. Y did mention a particular scar that I didn't know if i should get punched and said he could take care if it by dermabrasion... I think it is my bigger shallow scar so yes, I do think the other shallow ones would be corrected also. It used to be bigger but due to smoothbeam it had shrunk alot.

Sunblock,

What kind of scars did u have and did u have some success with Smoothbeam?

I am trying to decide what to have done with my daughter's scars. She has very shallow ice pick scars and a few shallow rolling scars on her left cheek. I was looking into Smoothbeam. I don't find a lot of success stories from smoothbeam, but have found a few. The success stories seem to be on the very shallow type scars.

She has very smooth skin with small pores, so it seems that even the most shallow ice picks/rolling scars show up and are more noticeable.

Curious,

How do you know what scars to punch float? Will you ask Dr. Y on Monday when it is appropriate to punch float, and when not? I sent Dr. Y photos several months ago, and subsequently scheduled a dermabrasion for Dec. 28th. When I spoke with him about punch floats, he said I didn't need them because it was for deeper scarring. It seems like many people are getting floats done on shallower scarring with good success. I have saucer type scars, I think they are rolling because it gives my skin a very uneven texture in sunlight and other unfavorable lighting (YIKES!) sad.gif

Wildcard,

I will ask him on Monday, since that's one of the things I'm not sure about. I know that most of my scars are small and shallow, but I also know I have a few which are slightly larger pits that would be appropriate for and probably need punch floats. In fact, I asked my friend who is a derm resident, and she's the one who suggested it on the smaller but slightly deeper pits.

Also, to everyone getting punch floats,

I'm curious how quickly any discoloration fades, so keep updating and happy healing!

Thanks!

Hi,

I was wondering if you could take skin (about 3-4 cm in diameter)

from another part of the body to cover a large area of scars on face.

Not like the punch graft or punch float for treating tiny scars.

Just like they treat burn victims.

I was watching a TV documentary on how they fixed the face of Princess Diana's

body guard(the only person to survive the accident). He had about

10000 different deep scars and cuts.

After the procedures his skin looked like baby smooth.

I guess if you can spend big bucks then you will be able erase all

scars 100%.

I should call Dr.Ray from dr.90210 tv show and ask if he can erase acne scars 100%.

To Agoff,

When I had the smoothbeam done I had a difficult time deciding whether or not it improved it enough that it was worth it. But all I can say that is I did try it as a stepping ladder to my improvements. With only 5 done ($2,000) I did notice around 1/2 of them got smaller by 30%, maybe more on a couple. I was surprised that one of my larger scars was actually two by the last smothbeam; it had evened it out in the middle.. making two ice pick ones. When I looked in the mirror it was clear I had to get closer to see them but if you decide your daughter is not ready for an invasive procdure like dermabrasion than it is a start. I am hoping dermabrasion with Dr. Yarborough will give me alot more satisfaction though.

I had my punch floats done Monday so today would make it a 3rd day mark. Iam nervous b/c I HAVE to go to work on SUnday morning. I just hope they are fallen off by Saturday which would be 5 days. I do NOT want to rip them off. eusa_naughty.gif They seem pretty secure to my skin still and I do not want complications. If they don't fall then I would call in and tell them my situation, better be safe then sorry. cool.gif

Curious,

Thanks so much for asking Dr. Y...and good luck with the punch floats!

Morris,

My sister had squamous cell cancer the size of a quarter removed from the side of her nose. The doctor skin grafted, using skin from the chin area to place over the nose. It healed great. Today there is no scarring on either chin or nose.

animegirle doesn't have time to post right now.... You could read her past posts or PM her with questions and she will get back to you when she is able to (probably about a week or so).

Wildcard,

Thanks for the infor. Do you know the name of the Doc?

Scars on nose are very difficult to treat.

Sunblock,

My tape did not dissolve until day 5 and the tiny scabs were visible until day 9.

Morris,

Dr. Richard Levine in Boulder, Colorado did her skin graft. He is a dermatologist who deals with many skin cancer patients. The last # I had for him is

303-444-3152.

Hey Kiki,

It is day 6 for me and I have two pieces of tape still on. I got to have the day off since my supervisor is cool. I will have to work start work Tuesday. That would be the 8th day. But my problem is that when I take a bath I am scared to wash my whole face. Today was the first time I actually dunked my head under water. What I mean by that is b/c I have a few darkened almost black scabs (about 3)that could easily fall off from steam. Did your scabs fall off? Or did it just heal into new skin? I will only wash around the areas from now on or use colder water... Too risky to scar it back up.

Kiki is this how you washed your face during the healing process? And did you wear make up like concealer? I woul think it would be better off not tryingt o cover up my blackened scabs b/c when washing it off it could easily fall off.

Hi sunblock101

How much does Dr. Y charge for the 20 punch floats? I am thinking about doing it also and around that many floats too.

Thanks!

Monty, be prepared to spend around $1,000 if you are getting 20 done!

They are anywhere from $50-$60 EACH.

I finally have all the tape off my face and have tried makeup on to see how well it covered the punched areas. I called the office and Cassandra assured me that it is ok to wear make-up after they fall off. Just take note that they do not want the punched floats to scab up entirely. A circle of dried crusted blood (yuck yes) is to be shown along with your skin in the middle is the idea. I have about 3 that have comlpetely scabed over but I just have to be careful and let them heal as much as possible before falling off. As far as the make up goes.. since I had 20 done, I still feel like I get stares but it just look like I had a bad break out and am trying to cover it up with make-up. I do not break out much anymore but remembering how it felt now.

I went to see Dr Y. for consultation. Dr Y told me that I don't need any punch floats based on 4'x6' picture I sent a months ago. I came out with 15 punch floats. Picture may not be good for making prognosis. I am allowed to take 2g of Vit C and 2g of Vit B5 before and or after dermabrasion. Dr Y does not recommend doing hyperbaric oxygen therapy after dermabrasion. Applying Retin-A before the dermabrasion is not needed too. He don't know Amino-plex mentioned by leo.

Had my consult with Dr. Y Monday. I didn't mention the board as I was referred by a friend, but he asked about it and said he's been sent printouts from it. I didn't have my floats yet, but apparently I need 8-10, not too bad. Dr. Y seems to recommend a full-face dermabrasion in most cases. Aside from the scars I'm having floated, I only have very minor scarring on one cheek. He said, however, that the dermabraded skin takes on properties of skin ten years younger, so especially as the ageing process occurs, any skin not dermabraded could look different or age faster. As to what kind of scars he suggested I have floated, they are all small and roundish. I do have a couple of slightly larger and shallow boxcarish scars (a few mm) which he did not suggest could be floated but will probably smooth out with dermabrasion. He was very nice as expected, as was Cassandra. Kiki, I am wondering how long the discoloration from the floats took to fade. I know you said the tiny scabs were there until day 9. Thanks!

Punch float update: It's been 10 days after having 15 punch floats with Dr. Y. some of icepick scars turns into hypertronic scars (raise above skin level) as the result of punch. 9 of punchs still have tape on them. These 9 punchs are close with each other, distributing within diameter of 1.5 inch. I think this may be the reason why the tapes still do not come off (vs. most people in this forum). This cluster of punchs gives me a very awlful look. I look like being hit and more than five poeple asked if I accidently fall. sad.gif
