I already posted this in the acne research forum but i thought people in this thread
might find this interesting regarding Emu oil being very close to human skin in regards to
fatty acids......
Here is my comparison of the amounts of Polyunsaturated fatty acids in Evening Primrose oil, Emu oil, and Human Skin. Both Emu oil and Evening Primrose oil are used for treating skin ailments including Acne, dermatitis, and eczema hence my posting it in this forum.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids:
Evening primrose oil:
Linolenic acid (Omega-3) 9%
Linoleic acid (Omega-6) 74%
Oleic acid (Omega-9) 11%
Interesting note: Evening Primrose Oil rivals even the highest
known concentration Of Linoleic acid which is that of Safflower Oil.
Emu oil:
Linolenic acid (Omega-3) 9%
Linoleic acid (Omega-6) 15%
Oleic acid (Omega-9) 47%
Interesting note: Emu oil and Evening Primrose oil contain the same amount
of Linolenic acid, but are almost completely opposite in their amounts of
Linoleic and Oleic.
And just for fun:
Human Skin:
Linolenic acid (Omega-3) 3%
Linoleic acid (Omega-6) 15%
Oleic acid (Omega-9) 30%
Interesting note: Emu oil and Human skin are very close in their repective amounts
of Polyunsaturated fatty acids.
The following contain the highest known amounts of each fatty acid:
Linolenic acid (Omega-3) Chia sage 64%
Linoleic acid (Omega-6) Safflower oil 78%
Oleic acid (Omega-9) Olive oil 85%

I don't see any harm in using them together.
going to give this a go,
whats the consitancy of emu oil? is it runny or thick
would this be ok? (i am uk) http://www.emu-oil-well.com/
Hi folks, I started using emu oil after I read this thread. I don't take any product recommendations lightly, since it's very easy to spent hundreds of dollars on worthless product. However, I did my own research and found this to be worth a try for me. I've used emu oil for the past 2.5 days, and I've found it effective for acne and helping to clear red marks. For only 2 days and $25 bucks, I'm very happy with the results so far. It has helped with the acne, but I'm more impressed with it's effect on red marks/skin tone.
I'm in my mid 20's (asian skin), and used to suffer from heavier acne until my early 20's. As I've gotten older, plus a few other changes in my life (exercise, diet, fish oil) have really slowed it down. I'm generally 90% acne free, with a few breakouts here and there. However, I do bear the scars of a history of cystic acne. My research showed that this oil would really help with the inflammation and evening out the tone of my skin, while shrinking red marks. I do have pits, stretch marks (from working out), and other scarring, but I don't believe this will fix them (but I can hope!).
Here's the summary of my findings, you can find my longer detailed version below.
Summary:
Emu Oil?
Emu Oil can help with inflammation of the skin and red marks. It can also help with active acne breakouts.
What brand did you use?
I used 4 Star Emu Ranch, I found it the best combination of cost and quality. You can google their website or find it on ebay (I found it was a little cheaper on ebay). They are molecularly distilled, and also an organic ranch open since 1985. I mention some other alternative brands in the spoiler.
Because I was impatient, I also purchased Vanish Triple Refined Emu Oil. I'm using this for my face, and 4 Star for my body.
How much was it and from where?
I paid $25 shipped for 8oz of 4 Star Emu Ranch on ebay.
About $20 shipped for 1 oz of Vanish Emu Oil on amazon. (pricey, supposedly higher quality). It does come with a dropper, though.
How do I use it?
You can use it as a spot treatment for scars, or also as a moisturizer if you have large scars/bad red marks in a large area.
Make sure to get a dropper, if the emu oil you buy does not include it. As others have said, LESS IS MORE. If you add too much, it's a waste of your oil and will feel like an oil slick on your skin/face.
If you are using it as spot treatment-
Use it after you cleanse your face, as a moisturizer. Just use the dropper and dab half a drop or whatever is necessary to cover the red mark/scar. Less is more!
If you are using it as a face moisturizer or covering a large area-
Again, use it after you cleanse your face with the... cleanser of your choice. You will want to keep a slightly damp face to help disperse the oil. If you find your skin dry, add a tiny bit of water to help it spread out.
Use the cross method-
People familiar with Retin-A and some other products will recognize this method. Again, make sure you have a damp face.
1. Use the dropper and apply a drop of oil to your: forehead, nose, right cheek, left cheek, nose, chin.
2. Use the tips of your fingers (to conserve your oil) to spread the oil all over your face.
3. Pat the oil down with your fingers.
If you have used too much, it will feel very oily. If you used just enough, you shouldn't feel any huge amount of oiliness.
I've been doing this three times a day, cleansing twice (morning/night). I'm sure it would also help even once or twice a day.
Hopefully this info will help everyone out, thanks to realtalk for bringing this product to my attention. Feel free to ask questions, but I may not respond for a while. I honestly don't check these forums very often.
More detailed info:
Emu Oil Quality:
There's not a standard of quality across this industry, but there are two major quality labels you will find.
One is AEA which means the emu oil was filtered and refined to their standard.
The second one is American Oil Chemists Society (AOCS), which takes that quality refined oil and molecularly distills it. This second step I believe really ups the quality and purity of the oil. I also choose molecularly distilled fish oil for this reason. However, there is a small price premium to this, which I believe is worth it.
Emu Brands:
For molecularly distilled Emu Oils, I found several choices. My main choices were:
Longview Farms, 4 Star Emu Ranch, and Royal Perfection.
Longview Farms - I found conflicting reports on the effectiveness/smell, and the prices were higher than the other two.
4 Star Emu Ranch - Pricing was the best for the quality, and I only heard good things from them. If it matters to anyone, they do run an organic farm - which is always a positive. They have been open since 1985 I believe. I have no issues with the smell, it smells like a fatty oil and that's it.
Royal Perfection - The cheapest pricewise, but I couldn't find many reviews or even a website for the main company. It seems they really focus on selling through resellers. Also did not find many reviews of the product.
I also purchased Vanish Triple Refined Oil from Amazon for face treatment. I'm not 100% sure they are molecularly distilled, but I'm convinced they are of high quality. They were also a brand mentioned on Oprah when she did a spotlight on Emu Oil, so that helps kind of
Other stuff that may help:
Drink lots of water, Fish Oil with your meals (I use Now Ultra Omega 3), and using a good moisturizer to keep your skin nice and hydrated. Diet and exercise are a big deal, but that's another topic entirely.
My red marks must be REALLY RED AND DEEP, because I've not only been using the emu oil but also the emu oil soap for 24 out of 25 days now ( I skipped last night, was tired) and I haven't really noticed any differnce in my red marks.
And not only that, but my skin still seems to be a little dry.
Hi guysJust got my bottle of pure emu oil straight from Australia. Just applied it. It's diffecult to describe how it feels, but it feels like someone is in my skin kicking all the marks out for good.
We'll see how it goes in the next few days!
that sounds a bit odd! i too received mine today. anyone know if its any good for active acne thats like semi under the skin (i.e not ripe)
?????

Lol, no results for me either after 1 month, but my red marks have been there for like a year +.
So who knows.
I live in Australia and used Emu Oil year ago for extreme eczema on my whole body. It honestly smelled like used oil and sweat, but it worked SO well on my eczema.
Although I haven't tried it (yet) on acne, I would definitely recommend it for sores and scars, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on acne and scarring
ps. It's been a while since I used it, .JacktheLad., but when I did it was in a plastic bottle and when it was warm the oil was really runny and gooey, but when it was colder it was thick.
Started using Emu Spirit Emu Oil yesterday (pure emu oil, the original smelly stuff).
So far the redness not only in red-marked areas but my whole face has severely decreased.
Most of my red-marks are old so I'm not really expecting miracles here, but the smaller and the newer ones are noticeably faded already, after under 24 hours.
