Hi Deborah30,
I've recently seen a consultant Dermatologist via the NHS regards my acne scarring and he's prescribed Retin A and suggests a course of Fractional laser treatments. He said i would need to stop the Retin A one week prior to laser treatment.ps the laser treatment is not available through the NHS.
I'm glad to inform you after ~ 4-5 months I see the first improvments on the left cheek. In full light the scars are invisible but only on my left side of the face, on the right no change. In low light the scars are hard to distinguish I must approach to the mirror to see them. I remember you I start to dermarolling only the left side of my face and only later after 6 weeks the right. Left side: 1 time with 1.5 mm 540 and 2 times with 2.0 mm 192 dermaroller. Only on the left side I use Revitol 2 times a day since june 2011 and Retin A on both side since ~ october 2011. I honestly say don't know if Revitol had any improvments to my scars and I can't tell you a procent for my improvment.
After 1 year I'll post photos and you'll appreciate if are any improvment or it's just my imagination.
I just ordered a $80 1.5mm DR ROLLER from Amazon. Yeah there were cheaper options, but it's not something I want to chance. I can't really put a price on the negative impact acne has had on my life. It will get to me January 4th. I'll be out for 9 days after that, in which time I will once again switch over to something similar to Atkins diets (minimal carbs, no sugar, no gluten). Hopefully from there, the next 6 months will show improvement. If it even say halfway improves my scars, I'll be extremely happy.
I just did my first rolling. I was pretty nervous the entire time. But after rolling up and down, seeing the roller not destroy my skin further, I became a little bit confident. I didn't apply too much pressure because I'll be leaving for PR in a couple of days, so my skin will get a ton of sun exposure (it will burn, and then turn very tan). Better to careful while inexperienced. There was no bleeding, though I did spot two or three tiny little pricks where I saw the tiniest amount of blood show.
The pain wasn't too bad. It was very manageable. Right now my skin feels warm, and is a little bit red around the areas I rolled. I'll be putting on some moisturizer and RetinA in about 30 minutes to an hour when it calms down a little because right now my face looks sunburned.
Edit : Stung just a little bit because I actually have Tretinoin 0.005%. I've been reading some conflicting stuff about whether or not this should applied afterward, but I figured I'd just do it anyway, since I believe I have one of the weakest strengths. If I get irritation I'll stop using it until everything has healed. Then I downed some Vitamin C and D3 with water. Easy enough! I'll probably do my next rolling on the 20th of Jan, with a little bit more pressure applied next time.
OK so I've been dermarolling/needling for maybe 1.5 years now...
most of my scars i needled maybe 5 times, usually waiting 4-6 weeks or more between sessions
The last time I did it, I'm pretty sure I got noticeable results... On the few prominent scars i had left
A lot of the older scars really reduced a lot over time and i havent touched some of them for 6 months or more
My biggest scar that was indented and the size of a dime is almost not noticeable now.
I think its more red marks that are the issue now, but the scars i had really filled in well in most places
I wrote before about having parasites, and i think that was a big part of the reason why my scars formed before and did not fill..
Diet may also be a factor... Im supplementing with chia seeds now - 2 table spoons a day in my smoothie. Also 1 or 2 avocados at least 2-3 times a week. i think these things were helpful
About the needling itself, i used a roller but didnt like it much... then used stamps.. for a long time
Finally, i started needling with a cactus needle... thats my preferred way now, though i dont think ill be doing it again for a while
Since I last needled, my scars had gotten less prominent... its bordering on the point where i dont care about them anymore. Without the redness nobody will even notice them, i think.
Anyway, I needled whatever spots made crackling/popping sounds.. so i'd find a spot on my scar where it popped and would go at that spot until I could no longer get a popping sound ut of it.. My intention - break the scar tissue and if the skin was being pulled down by connections, to cut those connections. I'd say maybe 25 % improvement since last time i did this.
I also made vitamin c serum - vitamin c, aloe and some lavender esential oil and was using that for a week or so.. i was using lots of stuff, but something made the skin on all my scars peel and flake off.. not sure what product it was but maybe the vit c because that was the only new thing.. so a bunch of skin peeled and the scars looked less indented after that!
I'm just writing this cause i know my scars looked a LOT worse when they started.. and now, I still see most of them if I look closely, but they dont look that bad... 80-95% better than on day one for some of the old ones (= 2 years) So all those people who write negative stuff, forget them cause there is improvement. Realizing that the scars do get better and almost disappear (faster now too, because of my dietary changes, i think!) makes me worry less about new scars... they will also disappear eventually... and not worrying is good.
The more you worry about the scars, the worst you get to think they look... better just put your products on, needle once in a while and quietly go about your day.. dont get hung up.
Oh yeah.. i forgot to add.. if you are needling scar tissue it should hurt very little... or not at all. if it hurts, you're needling live tissue... so you can tell that piercing normal skin with a needle would probably hurt a lot.. but i could needle a scar 50 times, and almost no pain... later you needle it after a few months and feel more pain - because the tissue is recovering
Can I just ask a question. Alot of people on here are saying you can use Retin A and a dermaroller at the same time. The plastic surgeons on the NHS say u must be off retin A for at least a year before you use any acne scar treatments like laser, chemical peel and i presume needling aswell. I think cause the skin is more sensitive and could be more prone to scarring after being on it. Who has been advised its ok to use the two combined? Was it a plastic surgeon or dermatologist?
Uuuuuh...I don't think you mean "Retin-A", you probably mean "Accutane". Doctors often refrain from doing invasive procedures during or immediately after a regiment of Accutane because Accutane can increase the likelihood of new scars being formed. Retin-A doesn't do anything like that, it's just tretinoin.
No its definately Retin A. I know Accutane is a stronger form but even beauty salons dont touch here if you've been using Retin A. Im going to speak to my plastic surgeon again about this in Feb! Let you know what he says! Thanks for your reply!

Been researching my head off for quiet a while about derm-rolling. Got a few questions for you guys.
1) I have 3 chicken pox scars that I'd like to improve. All 3 are pretty small, but I read an article yesterday that talked about individually needling scars where the tissue around it is completely healthy. However I have also read that derm rolling chicken pox scars brings great results. Anyone with experience on chicken pox scars? Can't decide which would be better for small ones
2) I'm looking into the 302 Skin Care A & C Boost as a prep prior to rolling. In reading this thread I see people have used a variety of things such as Green Cream, Retin-A etc. Is advancedderm.net still the preferred place to get the 302 products? Also how long should I prep for prior to rolling? I was thinking 2-3 weeks?
3) Since you need a prescription for Elma cream (in the US), how were you guys able to get your hands on numbing cream?? Also how much do you use? I'm guessing just a tiny bit for each section of your face?
Any help would be great! thx
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I have a very very deep scar on my arm that is very wide. I have started derma rollingand applying bio oil. the bio oil stings when i apply after rolling and have only used it twice and the skin is very sore and painful. I have a 2mm roller and it caused my arm to bleed in several places. 8 hours later and my arm is still red. I read somewhere that the deeper the scar the longer the needle has to be. Is this correct and could someone tell me what im doing wrong. thanks
Hey guys, just joined the forum and I have a question regarding derma-rolling. I had 4 sessions of derma-rolling done and I have noticed that I started to get what people call trackmarks all over my cheeks. Will these ever go away? Or is this just another addition to the array of scars I'm already trying to fix?
Thanks a lot in advance
What I saw is a brochure and stuffloads of things that doesn't work.

Trackmarks
+ Should go away within days. Depending on strength of rolling.
- If you're on Roaccutane or after least 1 year. Skin is very "impressionable" meanwhile.
- Nutrition deficient. Lack of nutrients make Skin Regeneration harder. Rolling creates stress. Ensure Body is primed for Scars Healing
- Using Blunt Needles. This is very serious. Blunt Needles cannot puncture skin to remove tethers causing certain Scars. The trackmarks maybe caused by Blunt Rolling, not penetrating of skin deep down.
I want to start needling!
I have minor-severe scarring, mostly moderate boxscar (shaped) and rolling scars + some white ones and bumbs under skin...
What needles should I use? Tattoo needles? Where to order?
WHERE DO YOU PEOPLE ORDER YOUR NEEDLES FROM?
I contacted my local tattooshops but they said they won't sell their needles to ttheir customers. Soo I have to order them online, but don't know where and exactoy what.

Good for you buddy. I'm happy your getting results. Please keep us posted (even every few months)
hi
i'm getting 1.5 rolling professionall done at the moment, 2 treatments in. not as much results, i would have hoped for, but as far as i can see all she is doing is rolling over my skin with a 1.5 needle. seems like i could do this at home. she is using a numbing cream (again i could do this) can anyone give me some advice to doing this at home? like where i can buy a good 1.5 roller from. any advice would be nice. (from people with success especially)
thank you
