From KitchenCraftsNMore.net

Vinegar for personal care

Vinegar in the bath. Add one-half cup of vinegar or so to warm bath water when bathing and get double benefits: softer skin and a cleaner bathtub with less work!

Hair conditioner. Vinegar makes a simple, inexpensive conditioner for your hair and helps remove the sticky stuff shampoo can leave behind. About a tablespoon will do it.

Dandruff treatment. Simply pour a few tablespoons of vinegar on your hair and massage into your scalp. Wait a few minutes, then rinse and wash hair like normal. Try this for a few days until you see results.

Weight loss. Vinegar naturally helps to remove fat from the body. Apple cider vinegar is especially good for this. Drink some in a glass of water a few times a day. Add a little lemon or honey for a nicer flavor. This will also help reduce your appetite.

Dry skin repair. Smooth a little vinegar on cracked, dried skin to help it heal.

Clean dentures. Soak dentures overnight in Heinz White Vinegar, then brush away tartar with a toothbrush.

Facial spritzer. Mix apple cider vinegar and water in a 1:1 ratio in a spray bottle. Refreshing!

Furniture polish. Make your own furniture polish with one part vinegar and three parts lemon oil or olive oil.

Personally Yours: Vinegar

From Pat Veretto,

Your Guide to Frugal Living.

The great balancing act

Probably the most popular use of vinegar is as a hair rinse. It makes hair soft and shiny because it removes shampoo residue, but it also changes the ph balance of the scalp and can be helpful in controlling dandruff. If you have oily hair, vinegar will help that, and if you have dry hair, vinegar will help that, too!

Is that hard to believe? It's because of the ph balance - acid/alkaline.

Extremes of either one will cause problems. Vinegar works to balance the skin and hair so that neither extreme is evident. Because of this, there have been claims that rinsing the scalp with vinegar can slow hair loss, but there is no evidence that it actually does. However, there is no harm in trying it and there are other benefits. Hair and skin are similar in balance and problems, and vinegar will help in many instances. Acne sometimes responds well to a nightly vinegar rinse, but the skin will often get worse before it gets better. Vinegar will rebalance the ph factor so that acne has a harder time getting started in the first place.

Dry skin responds to vinegar, too, especially if the dryness occurs because of overuse of cleaning agents - soap, bleach and other alkaline chemicals. Rinse your skin with straight vinegar, or, if it stings or is uncomfortable, mix it half and half with water. Using this regularly throughout the day and after using soaps or cleansers, will bring your skin back into balance.

The difference in using drying concoctions and moisturizing concoctions and in using vinegar is that those things overcompensate, trying to get your skin to a more normal level. When dry skin gets a overdose of oil ("moisture"), oil glands stop producing oil, thus intensifying the original problem. When oily skin is overdried by use of commercial products, the oil glands tend to go into high gear trying to replace what was lost - and the original problem is intensified.

The key is balance and vinegar does that well.

Besides the frugal advantage, vinegar is quite safe and if your skin does sting or become irritated with it, it will recover easily. Because commercial products are made from a number of ingredients, they're simply not safe for everyone every time.

Beautiful Skin Tip: Apple Cider Vinegar

Excerpted from Anti-Wrinkle Treatments for Perfect Skin, by Pierre Jean Cousin.

Vinegar has a tonic action that promotes blood circulation in the small capillaries that irrigate the skin. It is also antiseptic, preventing the proliferation of bacteria, viruses, or yeast that trigger infection. It can dissolve excessive fatty deposits at the surface of the skin and reduce scaly or peeling conditions. Lastly, vinegar regulates the pH of the skin. Vinegar is most effective when used with lavender, rosemary, rose, or elder flower. It is essential to use top-quality white wine or cider vinegar. Dry any fresh plant material for two days before using.

Lavender, Rosemary and Rosewood

Vinegar: 17 1/2 fl. oz good-quality white wine or apple cider vinegar

Essential Oils: 3/5 teaspoon each lavender and rosemary, 2/5 teaspoon rosewood

Plus: 2 tablespoons glycerin

Calendula and Elder Flower

Plant material: 2 oz calendula flowers and 3 oz elder flowers

Vinegar: 2 pints good-quality white wine or apple cider vinegar

Macerate: 2 weeks Lavender, Rose, Pink, and Lime

Plant material: 1 oz each lavender and lime (or linden) flowers, rose petals, pinks

Vinegar: 2 pints good-quality white wine or apple cider vinegar

To summarize everything, from what I have read ... ACV neutralizes our skin it makes our skin's pH balanced hence, Oil glands do not have to work and pump out so much Oil is our skin is balanced. ACV in my opinion is essential for acne and oily skin. ACV does dry up the acne, reduced reddness and inflammation, heals your skin so it isn't too dry nor oily, and it heals red marks. Seeing as it does all this you probobly don't need anything else this moisturizes your skin, clears up acne, redmarks my god .. I wish I figured this out a looong time ago. As I was looking through all these websites I couldn't believe all the uses for something so inexpensive!

I really hope that all you reading this definitely try this because it does work .. just look on the internet if this isn't enough there are people who claim ACV has cured their acne, fatigue, helped them lose weight, arthritis etc.

I have noticed this .. seeing as the ACV is bringing our skin to a balance is also draws impurities out, so I have a small breakout .. nothing major just a couple on my right cheek and a few white heads on my forhead and one on my nose, nothing major. I have still been using ACV and BP both seem to be a great combo. ACV gets rid of all the reddness and makes me skin glow and BP just dries up what I have left on my face.

In conclusion, just try it .. I know it sounds like b/s because I thought that too, but after all this reading, it certainly isn't.

great tips rebecca. i hope more people will try it, given a more scientific explanation! really; if you're hesitant, think about it like this: there's nothing to lose and sooo much to gain. acv's like $4. seriously, try it- anyone who's taken middle school biology understands this pH-balancing talk, and so you can see why it actually does work.

goo acv! i'm sold.

:) some ACV's you cna get for cheaper and in huge bottles and if u mix half water with half ACV that will last a long time. Much less expensive then any of those astringents you buy at the stort that do nothing but make your skin wicked dry.

I just got some ACV yesterday and I mixed 50/50 with Rosewater and added 10 drops of lavender essential oil in a 4 0z spray bottle. The lavender and the rosewater takes most of the nasty smell away. Used it last night and my skin looks pretty good today! dried up a pimple had on my chin. :) good stuff.

im glad to hear that .. but IMO i think you would get better results if you used a cotton pad or ball only bc the water droplets wont penetrate as easily as if u rubbed it gently on your face. the spray bottle would work great on your back bc thats hard to reach.

I just rinsed my hair in ACV and wow my hair is so soft i never felt it this soft is CLEAN!

I made a Toner .. i filled up one of my SeaBreeze bottles .. less than half vinegar and the rest water .. sometimes i do full strength .. but anyways .. after 3 days of doing it about 2 or 3 times a day .. i noticed a def. reduction! now i don't have pix bc i honestly didn't think it would work .. i ahve been putting it off for months bc i assumed this was b/s. But, surprisingly it does. YOU MUST TRY THIS! Can anyone tell me why this works tho? What is in ACV that makes it clear up skin and get rid of red marks?

Currently i am following the Clear skin regimen....how am i supposed to fit in this apple cider vineger toner....? and what do brandy & dan have to say about this??

most soaps, many products you use are alkaline. acv thus balances it out.

Apple cider vinegar is rich in alpha-hydroxy acids, helping to dissolve fatty deposits on the skinas surface and reducing scaly conditions, promoting a softer, smoother appearance. This miracle fluid also regulates the pH of the skin.

do a google search on apple cider vinegar toner: the first several searches describe acv's amazing ability to balance skin pH. i'm going go ahead and assume that all of them can't be wrong.

hey guys! what amount of ACV do you use to rinse your hair? 😉

1. Hair rinse: Apple cider vinegar gets rid of residue build-up on hair, leaving it soft and shiny. Mix 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar with 1 quart water and use as a final rinse after shampooing.

🙂 beware the smell though! if you're going to get close to anyone right after doing this, you should spritz your hair with a light body spray when it's still wet or damp.

http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/acvinegar.html

^ wow, if you have time, visit there. it's five pages of ACV cures!

even if you just skim some of those pages, it's like.. WOW. hahaha. there's about 100000000 uses for ACV, and all these people email in testifying to close-to-miraculous results. it's pretty interesting, lol.

i dont think Brandy or Dan would care if ur going to strictly b on the CSR then fine you don't have to use the ACV .. but I am not on the regimen I make my own and so far this is the best yet ACV + BP + Moisturize .. nothing compares to it. I hardly have to exfoliate now bc of the ACV and my complexion is much better than is was just using BP. ACV will help the inflammation so its agood thing to use even if ur on the regimen.

If you're going to use it while you're on CSR. Wait til you're really close to 100% clear AND you've been on it for about 3 months just so you can make sure that when/if you do break out, you know the cause.

once you have washed your face and done whatever else is on your regimen (like BP), get a cotton ball and dip it into the toner (of whatever ratio works for you). gently use the saturated cotton ball to apply the acv onto your face. wait for it to dry 10-15 minutes. then moisturize. i don't have any active acne, so i just cleanse + tone + moisturize

i think doing both would b fine seeing as it isnt like manual exfoliation when you use a brush or towel .. so it shouldnt be irritating.

i wouldn't leave this stuff on your skin overnight, when you sleep your skin heals best. i find wash your face with it wait a few minutes then wash it off works best.

i'm not sure what % acidity i'm using but when i apply it neat it leaves my face red like a bad sunburn for 10minutes then looks great after i wash it off.
