I tried ACV, applying it to 1/2 my face and man my face broke out bad on that one side. SO unfortunately it doesn't work for everyone.
I'm glad it works for you.... but you really have nice skin to begin with. Compared to some of us your acne doesn't even register on the radar screen.
Congrats you look great.
Daughter of Eve, I have to point out that I love the photograph of the little robin in your avatar.
To anyone else, where can I buy apple cider vinegar? At a supermarket? I asked in another thread but it seems less active so I figured I'd ask here.
Thanks.
Just buy it from your local supermarket. Where abouts do you live? In the UK I got mine from Tesco for about 70p. Don't bother going for the organic expensive stuff either, the cheap Tescos own brand works great!
John700, I appreciate your reply. Actually, I went ahead to a supermarket and found exactly what I was looking for. Looks like this stuff is pretty accessible despite my never having heard of it.
By the way, are you seeking good results? I know everyone's skin is different but it's just nice knowing how effective something as simple as vinegar can be.
I don't use baking soda to exfoliate bc ACV does that for me .. but some ppl have rougher and thicker skin so they can handle it.
Good Luck
It really has exfoliating properties too? How so? That's really amazing if it does.
The baking soda is super gentle so I don't think you need very "thick skin" to use it. It's almost hard to get it to have any sort of texture at all when you add water. I know exfoliating is good for getting rid of the marks/scars as well, so I was really glad when I found out about the baking soda. Before I was using a pretty gentle rice micro-exfoliant from dermalogica but even that was too rough, since I wasn't able to use it when I had active pimples or I would break out more around those areas.
I've continued to use the ACV toner morning & night and my face feels better than it has in many months! My red marks seem to be fading and my breakouts seem to be calming down, but the best part is that I no longer have any dryness or texture problems with my face. It's like the perfect balancer 🙂 I think I'm just using a 1/8 ACV mix right now.
Thanks again! I can't wait to take pictures and see if it really works for the marks. If ACV is what made your skin clear then I feel really good about it 😀
Hey ya'll, where do you buy lavendar oil?
I have to say I'm now using ACV more for preventing pimples than red marks nowadats. I really think the acid layer thing works because like I said I don't get the odd pimple every few days like I used to...
Bought the oil from my supermarket. im in australia
50ml from 14 AUD, which was pure 100%
Thanks, that sounds like an OK price for that I just wasn't sure where to even start looking for it!
^It has some mallic (sp?) acid in it which is similar to an AHA/exfoliator

Apple Cider Vinegar is made form apples and in apples is malic acid. Malic Acid id similar to Glycolic Acid found in sugar cane and Lactic Acid is found in meat, cheese and yogurt. This is why I don't use anything to exfoliate because too much exfoliating removed a thin layer of skin that locks in moisturize keeping your face soft and supple. One you damage that layer your skin looks incredible dull and just awful. Takes a loong time to get it back ... this is why over exfoliation is not good at all for your skin.
ACV def. help to calm your skin and help with breakouts .. I havne't used a toner in months since I began using ACV. That is how happy I am with this .. and believe me I have saved a ton of money so far bc I am not contantly going out buying new expensive products.
Benefits of Malic Acid
- Natural humectant, which draws water out of the dermis and into the epidermis. This helps keep the skin hydrated, without contributing to oiliness
- Natural antioxidant properties help fight free radicals in the skin - which can contribute to skin damage.
- Gentle nature makes it suitable for use on sensitive skin, even in high concentrations
1) Combine 1 pinch salt
2) 1/2 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
3) Add a drop or two of essential oil of your choice (Basil is particularly good for this, as it helps cleanse and liven the complexion)
4) Add 1 tsp ground almonds
5) Add 1 tsp ground oat flakes (This proportion is meant for the face; if you want to use it as a full-body scrub, you will need to make more.)
6) Use your fingers to rub this into the skin well, then rinse off.
Simple Recipes for Blemished Skin:
1) Make a solution of 4 ounces Apple Cider vinegar
2) Add 20 drops lavender
3) Add 20 drops eucalyptus essential oils
4) Use 1 teaspoon in about 1-2 cups lukewarm water as a final rinse when cleansing the face.
1) An apple cider vinegar final rinse can help dry hair.
2) Use a few drops of essential oil in one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
3) Add this to about three cups of boiled water
4) Place in a bowl, you can allow most of your hair to soak in it
5) splash it over the rest with your hand to rinse it just before you get out of the shower.
Bath and Body Gift Ideas and Recipes:
This rinse smells heavenly and is wonderful for your hair, especially weak, dry and/or damaged hair.
16 oz container (I used an old witchazel plastic bottle)
4 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
5 drops Lavender essential oil
5 drops Rose essential oil
5 drops Sandalwood essential oil
3 drops Rosemary essential oil
Combine all ingredients in container and top off with water. Cap bottle and shake thoroughly to mix.
You may wish to include a tag with the following information:
Apply liberally after normal washing routine, let sit for about 3-5 minutes, then rinse.
The key to not getting a 'slimy' or 'sticky' feeling to your hair (it looks perfectly clean, but feels odd to the touch) is to use water as cool as you can take to rinse with, and rinse it WELL.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a tonic made from crushed, fermented apples. It's famous for its use as a folk remedy for a variety of health benefits, from boosting immunity to promoting increased energy to easing leg cramps. It gained popularity in the 1970's as a diet aid, with users reporting successful weight loss when taking several spoonfuls of apple cider vinegar before meals.
Rich in minerals and trace elements such as potassium, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, copper and iron, apple cider vinegar is a healthful addition to any supplementation regimen. Pectin in the apples provides fiber, which helps support healthy digestion and cholesterol levels. Apple cider vinegar is also believed to promote healthy circulation, contributing to cardiovascular health.
While apple cider vinegar is commonly used in liquid form, either added to beverages or salad dressings, some find the taste too bitter or acidic to consume regularly.

Excuse me .. did you know me when I was 14? I have admited sebveral tyimes I hardly have acne .. only when my hormones are out of wack .. I just have had redmarks since I was 14 and 15. Why is that so hard to understand? Do you honestly think that everyone has acne forever? or never grows out of it, I am sorry I did .. so be a bigger person and stop trying to make yourself feel better by putting down someone else. Also you joined today you know nothing of this treatment and it is mostly for oily skin and redmarks .. if it helps with acne which is should help not cure b ut help that is great. Who said to begin with this was for acne? I have alwasy said use BP or TTO inconjunction with this method. Find me one sentence I have said that states "This will cure your acne"
And dude ... where in this thread did you get the idea that I was complaining about my acne? and this thread was designerd for that purpose .. if this was stricly about acne why the hell would it be in the redmarks section?

Maybe add essential oil? Im not too sure. I'm used to the smell. It's not that bad actually.I've been using this for a few days. My skintone is more even. I also have some zits but it doesnt get rid of dat. But my red marks look lighter.
Smashingpumpkins, do you think it's okay to use ACV with 12% AHA?
i decided to try this acv thing yesterday, and i must say i'm pretty impressed
i spot treated some redmarks on my face and added some acv mixed w/ water to my non-alcoholic facial toner and used it both last night and this morning
and i already notice difference in my skin tone
yes, the smell is really bad, but i'm not gonna mix in essential oils, b/c they are actually not that good for the skin
a few years ago i used sage tea as a toner, and it's a great moisturizing toner and it has pretty strong fragrance, so i think i will mix acv in sage tea and see how it goes (bear in mind that sage tea can only be around for 2-3 days, after that you have to throw it away)
well, it's only been one day, i'm sure i'm going to continue trying this out
thank you, smashing pumpkins, for being so persistant w/ this thread, if it wasn't for this thread, i would probably have never tried this
Thank You for the Support
I heard mixing Green Tea with ACV is beneficial bc A) Green Tea is packed awith antioxidants, B) Green Tea also has caffeine in it and caffeine is proven to help with wrinkles and firm the skin and C) The mixture of Green Tea might help with diluting the ACV that way it don't smell so much.
I also have heard that adding Lavendar is very beneficial because it soothes your skin and it is will help take away the smell of ACV.
Also if you have acne and aren't using BP .. try this:
1) Use a shot glass
2) Add about 5 - 8 drops of Tea Tree Oil starting out (can gradually increase later bc it can burn)
3) Fill the shot glass less than half way with water
4) Fill the rest with ACV
This should help with acne and evening your skin tone.
Or if you prefer using undiluted ACV be careful bc TTO and ACV can burn your skin.
I usually add 10 - 15 drops of TTO to a shot glass fill it with waater .. less thna half way. Apply it with a cotton pad and wait until my face it completely dry.
After my face is dry I usually dilute the vinegar not too much tho just enough so it won't burn and ten apply with cotton pad. I use undiluted ACV all the time but when applying TTO it makes your skin alot more sensitive and can burn. TTO can also make your skin feel tight and dry so MOISTURIZE.
As for the question about ACV and 12% GA, I would have to say no on that one. Only because too much exfoliation will leave your skin dull and starved of hydration. ACV alrdy exfoliates your face so there isn't much of a need for a second exfoliator. I would suggest Baking Soda only because it is wikid gentle. Only thing is immediately apply ACV once you have finished using the Baking Soda because Baking Soda is alkaline and that is very abd for our skin and p.acnes loove alkaline skin, so remember that, because it is important.
After reading all these posts I went into my closet took out the ACV put about 8oz into a old toner bottle and put about 7oz of water (bottled Deer Park thought it would help lol) shook the bottle used a cotton ball put it on my face and my face feels nice. I dont really get pimples like I use to I have mild acne but I have alot of redmarks and few blackheads and whiteheads So i hope the ACV is gonna help. im 17 a junior in highschool if i put this on before i go to school and im gonna smell like vinager?
