Hi Molly! I'm going to be getting Levulan+IPL for my acne and Rosacea. If I clear up with the treatments, I'll let you know! Hopefully your antibiotics will take care of everything, though. I'm also waiting for Minocycline to work... I started it about two days ago. So much waiting, I feel your pain... lol...
What is Levulan+IPL? How are the laser treatments going? Are they helping? Can you have them done if you still have active acne? I hope the antibiotics do work. I still am getting quite a few pimples a day. I mean Im getting five as opposed to ten but zero would be nice or one or two.

Lasers have reduced my flushing about 40% so far, and since each treatment is set at a higher level than the last, I'm hopeful that the rest of the flushing will really be brought down. =] However, the laser won't get the superficial veins that cause facial redness or the pimples, so that's why I'm going to get levulan (for acne) and IPL (for redness and red marks).
Levulan is a type of acid spread that, when activated with a type of light, is known as Photodynamic Therapy. For acne, levulan is usually used with a blue light since is kills bacteria well, but since I have Rosacea and inflammation, I'm getting an IPL with it instead. It usually takes a few treatments and it can be pricey, but I'm hoping things work out. Also, most people need to go in for maintenance treatments (usually every 3-6 months, depending on how resistant the symptoms). I'll post more info on my log when I get the chance.

Thank you for the info and good luck with your treatments 🙂
I have these four new pimples on my face that look like mosquito bites 🙁 My face also feels really dry and tight
I havn't replied in this log quite a while now, I uploaded some before and after pics on my log if you want to see, I know I am not clear of acne or red marks but yeah....
I found out that they're hormonal breakouts because they'd happen the week before and during my period. I use a hormone balancer, ProEstron (which is actually for Menopause), and I haven't gotten any since, so I'm guessing it's the pills that are preventing them.
I hope that isnt hormone replacement because that can lead to cancer.
As much as I love this cleanser, it really is too expensive for me. I have a bottle of neutrogena gentle skin cleanser. I will probably go back to that, my septra, and then I am gonna call my dermatologist and ask him if I can have some NeoBenz Micro in 5.5%. He gave me some samples of it and I absolutely love it! It helps some of my pimples go away over night! Also, I am not breaking out around my lips anymore probably because I stopped using colored lip gloss
Shit! My face is so dry, cracked and peely! I will not be wearing make up today. I got three new zits on my chin and I have this one zit on my forehead that looks like an abrasion. Its really weird to have that zit on my forehead because it is my only inflamed pimple there.
It's SO odd when one zit appears on an otherwise flawless forehead! They look so out of place there lol. At least your skin is calming down, which is good, but why all the extra dry, cracked, flakey stuff going on? AND... since you love that cleanser so much... you could always use it for your morning OR night regimen so you will get to use it, if it helps your skin so much, but it will last twice as long! But with your current dryness, do you think the SA and MA in the cleanser could be contributing to it since you really use nothing else?
Hi Molly!
I haven't been replying to your log but I've been reading it quite faithfully. Anyway, I was reading a book called 'Skin Fitness' and it's about how our modern lifestyle can cause skin issues. One of the issues they addressed is called factitious acne ('man-made' acne).
According to the author, the characteristics of people with factitious acne are:
1. Young women over 16-17
2. Genetically dry skin
3. Onset of acne coincides with increased use of shampoos, soaps, and time spent in air-conditioning or central heating
4. Acne is itchy and found on central parts of the cheek, jawline and forehead
5. Does not respond well to conventional treatments of acne
6. Made worse by drying or exfoliating agents
7. Poor sleep
8. Having uncomfortable eyes (itchy, swollen, scaly, sleepy)
9. Hair feels damp on waking up and scalp is itchy and/or covered with dandruff
I was wondering if you could have factitious acne, because you satisfy some of the criteria. Anyway, the treatment involved are just lifestyle changes. No prescription drugs are required at all. I'm not sure if you are interested to know about it, but if you are, just reply on your log and I'll explain further.
By the way, the book is written by two dermatologists in Australia. They seem credible, and they don't make wild claims.

A lot of those things apply to me but a couple do not. In fact, my forehead is pretty clear except for this one new pimple I have there, I have flawless skin on my forehead. My acne is on my lower half of my face and I have noninflamed acne, clogged pores on my nose.
I do sweat when I sleep and my hair gets real oily fast. I wouldnt say its damp though.
I just washed my face and I was about to apply my NeoBenz Micro but then I remembered I dont have anymore of my samples. I do however have some of Dans bp. I put some on just now and I will use that over the weekend. By Monday, I will decide which one I want, Dans bp in 2.5% or NeoBenz Micro in 5.5%.
Well, I'll just tell you what the book recommends and it's up to you whether you want to follow it or not. No offense if you don't
It says that your skin issues can be solved by altering some of your lifestyle habits. One of the main ones he kept emphasising on was about overheating while sleeping. Due to modern technology, keeping warm is very easy and a lot of us want to be warm all the time. This alters our internal thermostat, such that we feel comfortably warm even though our body is mildly overheated.
The author says that this is even worse when we are sleeping because we cover ourselves with thick clothing and thick blankets. Even though the temperature may be right at the start, a few hours after we fall asleep, the temperature starts to rise but we cannot consciously do anything about it. Because the face is the only part that is exposed, excessive sweating occurs there as well as increased blood flow. The increased temperature leads to poor skin health, and the prolonged sweating leads to irritation which causes us to subconsciously rub or scratch our skin during sleep and worsen the condition. The body reacts by issuing an inflammatory response leading to acne.
The author recommends a minimalistic approach to such conditions. He says that people often react to this problem by applying topicals. However topicals contain a lot of chemicals, some of which can irritate the skin. The more topicals we use, the higher the chance of irritation. However, most of us resort to even more topicals when what we are currently using doesn't work well enough, which ironically aggravates the problem.
The author recommends that we reduce the amount of products we use on our faces, including acne medication and cosmetic products, as much as we can. He also says that dry skin due to products has a poor defence against any 'insult'. Therefore, frequent moisturising is essential to restore skin health to allow it to fight its own battle.
As for the overheating, the author says that we should wear only light clothing to bed, and reduce the amount of insulation we use ie blankets etc. He says that the aim is to be comfortably cool, but not warm. He also says that it will take the body some time to adjust to the cold. Waking up during sleep due to the cold is a side effect, but it will go away after about 10 days when our bodies have adjusted its internal thermostat. Sleeping at cooler temperatures also leads to better sleep quality. He says the ideal temperature for the air inside your blanket to be is 32 degrees.
Ok! That was a long post. I'm trying the 'cooling' thing right now. It might not work, since I don't fit a lot of the criteria (but I do wake up with some mysterious scratches on my face). Still, no harm trying. There's no money involved, just a little bit of discomfort.

Maybe since Dan's is 2.5% you will have a little less drying in those areas, but the bp will be still effective enough to continue to clear you up!

The moral of the story is only wear a t shirt to bed 😉

I sure hope it works just as effectively as the neobenz micro. Dans bp comes in bigger tubes so we definitely get more for our buck. NeoBenz Micro only comes in tubes worth 35 grams. I dont understand why all these prescription topicals dont come with very much. They dont even last a month where as Dans lasts two or three months
F***! This isnt acne related at all but its about my skin. I was baking a pizza in the oven and when I opened the oven I had something else on my mind. I hit a part of my arm on the oven and a huge layer of skin fell off. It hurts like hell! Im gonna take a picture of it. Here it is. Nothing Im doing is helping it. Its very red, it stings and its very painful
Ow... I hate when object hurt me. D: You can't teach them a lesson, get revenged or anything.
Have you ever tried Almond Oil as a moisturizer? Honestly, I have, and it sucked. It didn't cause any problems but it was very thick. I used Jojoba for a while and it eventually broke me out, and now I'm using Apricot Kernel Oil. It's similar to Almond Oil except lighter and it works just as well as Jojoba without giving me allergies. ^.^ So it might be cool to look into for you~ I really really like it and recommend it.
My arm is in so much pain today and I hope it doesnt scar Today was just an all around not so great day. Also, one of the patients in the nursing home I like and that is very allert, she looked at my face and said to me, "What happened to your face? Do you not wash your face twice a day?!" It was hurtful coming from her
No, I havent used that as a moisturizer. I try to avoid oils and go more for lotions
I have another pimple near my lip and another one on my chin :wall: My arm still hurts like hell so so Im gonna go to my dr tomorrowYAY! Ive been using Dans bp for the past couple of days and it is burning my face like before 😀
You have been using Dan's bp for the past couple of days on your entire face as a preventative measure? or spot treatment? lol It's burning like it did before but did the NeoBenz burn too?
OMG Molly - that burn looks SO painful! Are you going to the doctor tomorrow if it's not looking better? It's good you're using the antibiotic ointment to keep it moist and protected, and that will also help with any discoloration. I burned the top part of my thumb with my curling iron lol, just a little bit, and that hurt like heck! I did notice the antibiotic ointment kept it healing nicely. Yes, unfortunately, there is a little mark, but it's going away nicely.
Let us know what the doctor says if you go.
It's too bad you won't be using your cleanser anymore, but will you purchase a cleanser with SA or MA in it? That would probably be a good idea considering I'm sure that has helped with your skin.
Take care kiddo!
