Ive been on 20mg of accutane for nearly 3 weeks. At my initial consultation the dermatologist didnt mention dosage just that generally patients are on accutane for 4-6 months. When he issued my first prescription he said he usually has patients weighing 60kg take 30mg for the first month then 60mg for 3 or 4 months. I have a history of depression ( currently fine and dermatologist is aware) but I dont want to risk taking a higher dose. It seems in some European countries taking 20mg a day for 6 months is pretty standard. What are peoples thoughts on taking a cumulative dose?

When it comes to isotretinoin, the cumulative dose is what they go for. Sometimes they'll even put people on really low doses for longer periods of time.

You are so smart to be your own advocate here. Ask what's going on with your dosage and for how long and how high a dose you need to be on it to get the appropriate cumulative dose.

And...remember to take it with a meal containing fat. If you don't, it doesn't absorb like it should.

From Acne.org/accutane: Relapse:Studies show relapse rates between 14.6% to 52%, with a real-world average of about 1/3 of people experiencing a relapse. In these cases sometimes a second course is given.11,7,9,14-19Patients who receive a cumulative dose of 100 120mg/kg see the best results and lowest relapse rates. Patients who receive a lower dose relapse more frequently. Daily dosage depends on how much the patient weighs; 0.5mg 2mg / kg is typical.1,15,17
