I'm in the UK and this post seriously cheered me up until I got to the pharmacy and they refused to sell it to me! Apparently you're not to use it on cracked skin.
I had been using Lanolin and switched to normal old Vaseline which helped massively, it was healed within two days. I'm only on 30mg Accutane a day though.

As a seasoned Accutane vet, I want to recommend Savex lip balm. My dermatologist had his son using it when he was on it, and that really helped.

I still smile when I think back to all of the times I left behind pots of it at a friend's house.

Like many I opened an account to thank you for the advice. My lips were so badly chapped it looked my lipstick had smeared across my mouth. One corner was so badly cracked and peeling it even hurt to smile. I was using makeup to tone down the redness. I had tried first aid ointment, chapstick and extra moisturizing lotion. Nothing was helping it seemed it was all getting worse. I came across advice to use just Aquaphor it helped temporarily to make my lips feel a little better. Then I came across your advice and said it can't hurt to try. My step was going to be the dermatologist. I applied a thick layer of the Cortisone especially in the corners and added another layer of Aquaphor on top. The next morning there was a noticeable improvement. 3 days later all is almost normal again!!! Thank you so much!!! Your advice has been passed on trust me!!!

I tried it and it worked! The cracks I had in the corners of my mouth went away quickly. I bookmarked this just in case it ever happens again so that I know what to use next time. I also signed up just so I could post a reply for the helpful advice. Thank you!

I started Accutane 2 weeks ago, and now have cracks and blisters on my lips. Searching for any remidy (Blistex, Vaseline, and Neutrogena cream do not work), I found out about hydrocortisone through a pharmacist. They said there's a prescription cream that contains it. Immediately I bought a tube of Hydrocortisone Cream, and applied it last night. It burned so bad that I was crying for nearly 5 minutes. Again I tried it today and the same excruciating pain happened. Any other suggestions?

Where was this when I needed it like 2 weeks ago?!! Another good idea I found was rinsing your entire mouth out with hydrogen peroxide and then adding prescription strength face cream fkr serious dryness and it worked overnight. It's gonna burn but is worth it

I have cracked chapped and swollen lips. I developed dried lips 2-3 wks ago. I started worrying about it a few days ago and started applying turmeric with honey, olive oil etc. I applied turmeric with honey last night. It kept my lips moistened until morning but I developed little bit swelling. It's annoying. I don'thave an appetite either. I can eat If I want/need to eat but there is no appetite. I'll try the Max strengthcortisone cream 1% from Walmart. I hope I get well soon.
Thank you for posting your experience.

ScarRight, I'm the 3,187th person to create an account to thank the original poster for their advice. I'm also from Australia. Go to a Chemist Warehouse and buy DermAid Soft 1% Cream - it really is the miracle worker everyone says it is! And thank-you to the person who started this post!!

Thank you Dgev...I am going to visit chemist warehouse tomorrow. On the website it says it is pharamicts medicine only, so I wonder if I need a prescription. The chapped lips are starting to get really out of hand on Accutane.

I am very disappointed.

As Dgev mentioned, chemist warehouse stocks this product in Australia. I went to visit them just before. The pharmacist flat out refused to give me this product, because he claims its bad for the lips, it shouldn't be used for more than seven days and it just wouldn't work because it is not designed for cracked lips for people on Accutane. He then recommended a list of useless products that wouldn't work, because pretty much everyone in this thread has stated they do not work and this remedy is worth a shot. I have already tried most of them.

What is annoying is that I am on a Accutane small dose, long term strategy from my dermatologist, because I have low level persistent acne. These lips are getting bad. They look ugly.

So apparently you can buy this off the shelf at Walmart in America, but in Australia you need permission? Can people get a high feeling out of this or something? Why are they so scared to sell it?

Annoyed.

Hi

Add me to the list that created an account just so I could say thanks Chopper.

I have been dealing with this condition for at least 4 months. Cracks would heal with listerine, chapstick, couple of anti fungal creams, Nystatin (prescription from the dentist) etc etc but would come right back soon after. Seems nothing would clear it up. Scouring the Internet for answers you see a lot about vitamin B, iron, allergies, stress etc etc but nothing about this until I stumble across this thread. I dreaded the idea of going through the whole doctors apt routine; it seems so difficult these days and expect the same limited results as I have read others had.

Anyway, after reading this went right out and grabbed some. Boom! Gone. Nice to yawn again without pain.

Thanks
