Forget drinking; how does cannabis interact with Solodyn? My friend and I are both on it and she wants to know if she can keep smoking pot, but she's embarrassed to join a community with acne in its name to ask.
She's on the 90 mg pill and I'm taking 135mg per day; just started yesterday. Right after swallowing this evening's pill (my second) I felt an odd pain in my jaw and my neck seemed to cramp up.
I'm also applying Differin .3% in the evening and 5.5% benzoyl peroxide in the morning, as per my derm's instructions.
Solodyn gave me really, really, really bad toothaches. I called the derm and he said it wasn't a known side effect and told me to keep taking it. I did, and the toothaches persisted. I stopped taking solodyn and sure enough the toothaches went away. About a month after, I tried to take it again and sure enough, the toothaches returned.
I can take pain but this was just unbearable. I couldn't even sleep.
Adoxa was the only antibiotic that worked for my acne. It cleared my acne in about a couple months.
Hello, I have moderate acne that has been getting worse lately so my derm just gave me 90mg Solodyn. I wasn't taking any oral antibiotics for the last 6 months, just washing with Brevoxyl in the morning, and applying Clindamycin lotion in the morning and evening. He told to just add the Solodyn.
I'm a 33 yr old guy that NEVER had acne of any kind until about a yr and a half ago. and I just don't understand why this is happening now... I have recently been getting these deep, painfull zits (I believe they're nodules? are they cysts?) on my cheeks that don't really get a head to them, but they are red/purple and are leaving bad marks/scars.
My main questions for anyone who can help me are...
Is this medication going to cause my acne to become worse once I stop taking it?? Because my acne is, I guess mild/moderate with these new deep painfull one on my cheeks. This is really my first concern.
Should I take a pill every other day instead of every day?
Has anyone out there that has mild/moderate acne, and has taken this medication report how there face responded after stopping it?
Sorry if I'm rambling, I'm just feel like I'm at the end of my rope with this shit, and as bad as my skin looks to me now, I'm just afraid of this medication making things worse for me in the long run by developing worse acne.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me. Thank you
I've been on Solodyn for about 4 days and I have seen slight improvement in my condition. I'll go thru the whole treatment and see how it'll affect my overall acne. So far so good though. I'm also using a couple of topical solutions along with the pills.
I'm having slight side effects like mild headache and some stomach issues. Hopefully it won't always be like this the whole time on the prescription.
My daughter took Solodyn for 5 months and developed drug-induced Autoimmune Hepatitis from taking this drug. Solodyn is also known to cause drug-induced lupus. These are very serious illness. She has had to have a liver biopsy and has some scarring on her liver as a result. Please think twice before using Solodyn or any type of minocycline for acne. Do your research before taking any type of drug.
this is true. i havent gone to the doctor yet to get my final diagnoses but i recently got a catscan that shoed i had an enlarged spleen, on of the signs of liver disease. do not take this crap. its not worth it. it only made my life alot worth. i spent alot of freaking money just so it can make my skin and health worse.
I'm currently weaning from Solodyn; I've been taking it since December. It took about one month to see results and at first I had a surpressed appetite and fatigue. After that first week I had no side effects. This drug has my respect. I've got NO active acne and NO added side effects (I've been on antibiotics for years so of course I've developed some side effects already). Whether or not my acne will return has yet to be determined.
You know, just because one medication doesn't work for someone doesn't mean it won't work for anyone else, but I'm just kicking a dead horse aren't I? READ THE MATERIAL THE DRUGS COME WITH. Simple.
i was a skeptic at first for solodyn when i first started taking it. i saw no improvement. i was discouraged and kinda down....especially because i was so used to having perfect skin...which ended once i decided i didnt want hormones in my body anymore and i stopped taking oral contraceptives.
but after 5 long weeks on solodyn and klaron...i can say now that i can tell my skin is clearing up.
it isnt perfect yet, but i am getting there gradually.
please, be patient. i know it sucks at times...and i know the feeling of being so tired of acne...i almost considered going back on the pill...just so that i wasnt embarassed anymore.
its just skin.
you are still a beautiful person inside.
that's what i have learned at least from this 3 month spell.
I am 30 years old and have been dealing with pimples and redness for probably the past 3 or 4 years....and not to mention VERY sensitive skin. I saw a Derm. 2 years ago and he put me on Minocycline which cleared my face up in a matter of weeks, but in turn it gave me a really bad yeast infection. I also had 6 treatments of Microdermabrasion to get rid of the marks and scars that the pimples had left behind. After my 2nd Microdermabrasion treatment my skin was FLAWLESS.....I had baby skin again. My skin stayed clear for proably close to a year and then it started getting bad again. So last week I decided to see the Derm. AGAIN.. He gave me a script for Ziana, Solodyn, and Klaron lotion. I dropped my scripts off and went back the next day to pick them up and was really annoyed because the Ziana was $200!! The Solodyn was free thanks to my Derm. Dr. who gave me some sort of coupon and the Klaron lotion was $50. I decided to NOT get the Ziana for two reasons....it's very expensive and I read reviews on it and NONE of them were good. So I have been taking Solodyn for 2 days and have had a slight headache, but I have sinus problems, so it could be from that. I have also used the Klaron lotion for 2 nights and I love it...it makes me skin soft and takes away the redness. I haven't had a really bad breakout in about 3 weeks, but I usually only break out when my monthly period comes around so we will see if the Solodyn is doing it's job in the next few weeeks. I'm a little nervous about taking Solodyn for so long, because I eventually want to have kids and I'm not sure how that effects reproductive organs...does anybody know?? Should I wait a few months after taking Solodyn to get pregnant?? What a scary thing drugs are these days!
I just got the medicine today and my doctor told me it takes at least three months to see any results, and as far as the pimples getting worse....that's how this medicine works. It first pushes out all the build up and dirt from inside your body which means you will be a pizza face for a few months, but then it starts to clear up after it gets all of that out of your body. dont worry guys it just takes a little time and patience. it sucks but we all have to do it.
I read a few posts up that a woman's daughter was diagnosed with drug induced autoimmune hepatitis from Solodyn.
I went to see a liver specialist and was diagnosed with the same.
I had applied for some additional life insurance and received a rejection letter in the mail because my liver enzymes were 3x what the norm is. That was the only reason I found out about this. I'm glad my husband and I decided to apply for some additional life insurance. I never would've known until it was too late.
Anyway, I went to see a liver specialist, who ran a series of tests. My enzyme count had gone up to 5x over the normal range.
Before seeing the specialist, I researched what could possibly cause an elevation of liver enzymes and found that minocycline drugs are known to do that (Solodyn). I immediately stopped the medication. We don't have any history of liver problems in my family.
Well, I was very lucky. We caught this early enough that it did not cause any further damage to my liver, and the condition reversed itself. Drug induced hepatitis can eventually lead to liver failure and possibly the need for a liver transplant. The only sign I had was that I was really tired all the time. That can happen from almost anything. But, once I found out what was going on, my doctor said that because my liver toxicity level was so high, my liver was working so hard to try and function normally and filter out all of that medication, thus, causing the fatigue.
Solodyn worked great for me while I was on it. However, it was not worth what I have gone through over the last few months. I am just so thankful that I found this out before any serious permanent damage was done to my liver. I also suffered from intracranial pressure headaches from Solodyn.
If you are taking Solodyn, ask your doctor to run a simple, routine blood test to check your liver enzyme levels. I had asked my dermatologist several times if this medicine was relatively safe. I know that all medications have their side effects, but he never once mentioned anything about this.
Just got prescribed this today, picked it up and took my first 90mg tablet.
Been on 0.025% Tretinoin and 0.05% for 6 weeks each, hope this gives improvement. Also started 0.1% Tretin-X.
What I'm really scared of are all these crazy hardcore liver problems that people are reporting... autoimmune diseases, hepatitis, damn! D:

I took it for 2 and 1/2 months and did not get any improvement so I went off it. The doctor told me I should have stayed on it at least 4 months but when I read some info on it..it said dont be on it longer than 3 months! So not sure about iif it would have worked if I had stayed on it longer or not. (I did find a nice mail in rebate at the website)
Okay.. after reading this I am very nervous. I am thirteen and have been taking solodyn for over a year. I had no clue you were only supposed to take it for 3 months. I saw a definite improvement, though. I am now worried about liver damage. Back in January I had to go to the hospital for tests since I'd been getting headcahes and little blackout spells. They couldn't really find out what was wrong but I suspect solodyn. I didn't have a tumor (thank goodness). I am scared I am damaged because I have taken it for so long. Do you have any suggestions?
Is Solydyn the same as generic minocycline? I get why it's more expensive (new med), but how much more effective can it be than the generic stuff? Enough to warrant that $500 price tag?
The only difference with Solodyn vs. the other cyclines is that it's time released so there is a steady stream of medicine coursing through the body. This way supposedly fights the bacteria better and reduces side effects. Like anything new or extremely popular, it's going to be more expensive.
