...for me, the paleo diet works to stop my acne. No grains, added sugar, soy, corn, bean/legumes, Crap Food, nasty veggie oil.
Yay! Glad to see someone also promoting diet, which I believe really helps get to the "root" of acne. Going on a low-sugar diet (low-glycemic) and cutting out dairy have both been evaluated in studies as helping with acne. Dermatologists are finally starting to connect a diet-->acne connection. I want to encourage everyone to make dietary changes. If changing your diet sounds too complicated or overwhelming though, one of the best things you can do for your skin is actually very simple. Start making green smoothies. If you only add one thing to your diet, this is the thing to add. You can then slowly start to phase out sugar and dairy products. My green smoothie thread (in my link) gives more information on them and also some diet tips in general for those with acne.
Also, I use Oil of Olay's Regenerist serum and love it!! Been using it lately as a moisturizer after I apply Paula Begoun's 2% BHA liquid. I just use a tiny bit of the serum... love it. 🙂
Pegz,
Some of here think it might have a lot to do with the niacinamide in the products. It has wonderful benefits for the skin and there have been some studies on its effect on acne:
So what's the theory behind why the Regenerist stuff is good for acne? Isn't this product line meant to be for anti aging or skin revitalization?
Olay is mainly used for anti-aging, by promoting skin growth, it helps healthy bacteria growth and creates an ideal environment for healthy skin cells to grow. BUT this is also great for treating acne.. because it also treats one of the causes of acne... excess skin oil.
excess skin oil has been linked to aging because it makes the skin coarse and pores large. So by treating excess skin oil to help aging, it also helps acne. Also the skin cell regrowth helps to fight acne.
i used the olay night cream last night and i like it so far. i liked how it went on, i lreally liked the smell of it too(which slighlty worries me because itsperfumy and im affraid ill break out). it was nice applying it ontop of the bp last night. anyhow i also liked how my skin looked this morning when i washed my face, alot of flakes came of really nicely when i washed my face without rubbing (i usualy ave to rub really hard to get rid of them) so far so good lets see how it goes. i really dont want to jinx it.
this is edited-- so i washed my face and i think i can see new pimples forming im not sure though and i think its too early to tell, but by the look of it (my experience) it does look like theyl be whiteheads or something. hopefully tey wont but lets see.
im still going to carry on with the night cream though, unless i get cyst or nasty breakouts that i cant deal with. im planning on giving myself atleast 2/3 months to like this product
Well, this stuff broke me out quite badly, the night lotion that is. It also made me feel ridiculous because of the strong perfume smell (I'm a dude) and made me sneeze lots!
Note that I am not using BP.
The one positive thing I can say is that the matte finish makes it the perfect daytime moisturizer, at least as far as appearances go.
okay so a week and 3 day update: my skin is incredibly smooth, and up untill 2 days ago, my skin was looking much better, the redness was reduced from everywhere just to a small area around pimples, but i broke out pretty badly. my skin looks best in the morning after waking up and having the night recovery cream work its magic all night. im going to give this another week and a half to determine if im going to keep with it
I have very dry and sensitive skin due to accutane last time. Recently, I have try the sample of olay regenerist serum. I apply it on my skin after cleansing my face and my own moisturizer on top. It helps to minimise the pores and the red acne scars fade a little, overall giving my face a smoother look.
However, my biggest problem is always dry skin. It did not helps to moisture my face enough which also causes small break outs, almost like rashes. The small break outs is not caused by the product as this always happen if my face is dry.
I am thinking of trying the night cream instead. But is it ok to use the night cream twice a day, morning and night? Anyone of you tried it before?

The night cream is great if you need a moisturizer that doesn't show up on your face after you've just applied it, so yeah it's good for daytime as far as appearances are concerned.
Glad I found this! My favorite moisturizer EVER was Olay's sensitive skin night cream, but of course, they stopped making it! Lately, I've had to order it from China on Ebay! Eep! Since Olay is a brand that I already trust, I ran out and bought the Regenerist night cream. Fingers crossed! The only thing that concerns me is the fragrance and irritants in it, as my skin is quite sensitive, and a lot of moisturizers that I've tried have burned pretty badly and made me all red. I guess there's only one way to find out if this does the same or not!
I'll give this a shot,
unfortunately I have rosacea - so BP isn't too much of an option : (
However, I will substitute it for 50/50 Apple Cider Vinegar & water in the morning, while using Lemon Juice and water in the evening, both as a toners that remove remainders of the cream cleanser, blackheads, comedones, good for rosacea and acne.
Unfortunately, after using this for a few weeks, I'm breaking out REALLY badly. Sigh. Back to square one.
Sorry to hear that - I know it's frustrating. 🙁 Have you looked at your diet? My signature has information that might be helpful. If you can't seem to find a skin-care regime that's working, it might be that you need to tackle the root cause with diet. It could be as simple as eliminating dairy or adding in daily leafy greens. 🙂
I have been using the benzoyl peroxide/regenerist night serum and day cream regimen for about a month now and have seen a large improvement in my skin. It does make me sad that Oil of Olay tests on animals, but unfortunately my depression over my acne takes precedence in this instance. One warning about the regenerist night cream- avoid eye contact! I definitely had an allergic reaction the first night that I used the product because I put it too close to my eyes. I would suggest just putting it on the areas where you have flare ups or if you are like me a lot of scabbing. I would definitely recommend this product! It is expensive but worth it!
