Well, funny I should find this thread after so long....
I have been doing a very similar thing to this regime for 4 days now, and I have had no new pimples...only 5 that are going away fast! I got 85% clear from Dan's regime, but my face was so red all the time, and I was still breaking out, so I decided to try something else with products I had laying around the house...I've been doing this for 4 days now and I'm 98% clear!
AM:
Wash with Oxy 10% BP Balance Wash
Spot treat zits with Clearasil Adult Acne Tinted Treatment (the one with Sulfer)
Moisturize with Dove Essential Nutrients Day Lotion
PM:
Wash with Neutrogena 60 Second Mask/Scrub
Spot treat zits with Clearasil Adult Acne Tinted Treatment
Apply either Dove Night Radience Cream or Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Treatment
I also take Natures Cure Tablets twice a day, but I really don't think they are doing anything....
My face is still a little red from adjusting to these products, but no new zits yet, and my skin is looking healthy again! YAY!
I'll keep posting on my progress....
Well, i've been doing this regimen for around 8 months now, it's really been a long time. During this, i've tried various methods of it and this is basically how it went:
Before starting: Approx 3 new pimples per day
1 month after starting:
-Applied creams twice a day
-Used large quantities of the creams on my face
-Rubbed it in thoroughly and only on the places where acne was at
Results: Approx 1 new pimple per day
2 months after starting:
-Applied creams twice a day
-Used large quantities of the creams on my face
-Rubbed it in thoroughly and only on the places where acne was at
Results: Approx 1 new pimple every 2 days
3 months after starting:
-Applied creams twice a day
-Used a very thin layer of the creams on face, barely visible
-Applied it very gently, barely touching the face at all
Results: Approx 1 new pimple every 3 days
4 months after starting:
-Applied cream once a day (at night)
-Used a very thin layer of the creams on face, barely visible
-Applied it very gently, barely touching the face at all
-Applied it to *as much of the face as possible*, bridge of the nose, sides of the cheeks, forehead, between the eyebrows, and a little under the chin.
Results: Approx 1 new pimple every 7 days
5-7 months after starting:
-Same method as before, only got about 1 new pimple every week if even that.. acne was almost gone, with no more than two small ones on my face at a time
8 months after starting:
I don't know why but all of a sudden the acne has come back really bad. It doesn't make sense to me. I tend to get into pretty familiar patterns everyday and there is nothing I can see that i've been doing different (food, exposure, cream application, etc). Yet I feel like i've taken a major step back, with a new pimple each day if not more. One of the first few just disappeared and left the worst scar i've ever gotten before, so i'm feeling pretty down.
Maybe it was just the weather. All of a sudden the weather has gotten much much cooler here (you'd think that would make it better rather than worse wouldn't you? dry skin and less sweating?), but no. For now I guess i'll just be looking into trying some of the new regimens that have come up since I last visited and hope for the best. Hope my experience here helps some people though, since there seems to be a little fine tuning to this regimen unless it was just sheer luck (which is possible). It worked great for a while, but no more for me...
Well, dans regimen didn't really help me. Even the 2.5 percent overnight (only applied at night) was too drying.
I started this regimen last night; it felt so good after washing my face. I've never had my face feel that nice after a face wash. Here goes nothing; hopefully I get results!
And it should cost about 20 dollars Canadian a month, or for you lucky Yanks, about 10.
Haven't read all the replies on this, but I'd just like to add my bit.
I use:
Clean & Clear Oil Free Dual Action Moisturiser (with SA),
Clean & Clear Daily Treatment Face Wash (also with SA)
and PanOxyl 2.5% BP Aquagel
and at the moment I'm on Minocycline (which I'm not sure is having much of an effect) and Zineryt.
As far as I can tell, the combination of the 3 OTC products is very successful, like you say the incoroporation of both SA and BP.
I find if I use ALOT of moisteuriser it seems to prevent breakouts to some extent.
I recommend it.
Just a little background here. I am 40 years old. As a teenager, I had terrible acne. It was bad enough that I went to a dermatologist, I tried EVERYTHING, NOTHING helped. Back then, they used an abrasive pad, that you would use to get rid of soap scum off your tub. I rubbed my skin raw and used everything under the sun then finally one day I thought F**K it. And stopped using ANYTHING at all on my face. NOTHING!!! Only water, nothing else. Amazingly, it cleared up. Whenever I use anything at all on my face, it breaks out. I don't care if it is oil free or for sensitive skin, i can't use any type of soap or makeup on my face without breaking out. I use plain water to wash my face now and get complimented on my even complection, believe it or not. The only make-up I use (not by my choice, but by my skin reactions) is eye make-up, lipstick and occasional blush. I am a nurse now and to this day I still don't understand it. But I accept it.
My first born son was blessed with very few break-outs of acne, he is now almost 18 and rarely has acne, but my second son, I have three, whom is 16, has been cursed with his mother's acne.
He has used a very harsh ointment prescribed by his doctor, costing 85.00. The only thing it did for him was make his face very dry, red and irritated. He has been using the over the counter medicine ACNEFREE for several months now, and his acne is still very bad. Of course, I am sure he doesn't use it like he should, but irregardless, I understand his emotional pain. Therefore, I have been searching a different treatment and decided to 'research' the internet 'again'. I was at the point of purchasing proactiv, until i stumbled upon this site, by accident. I don't mind spending the money for him, but WASTING money is something I have a problem with. With my own experience, I feel less is better, therefore, I have talked with him and he has agreed to try out this regimen. LOL, I agreed not to 'squeeze or pop' anything as long as he gave it a good try, in accordance to the regimen. He hates that more than anything, but i can't stand to see huge blackheads and white heads on his face. I just cringe at the thought of other kids saying and thinking hateful and mean things about him. I worry about him having scars on his face and being called 'pizza face' by kids at school. Kids can be so cruel. He is still my baby even if he is 16. So, I have patiently read up to approximately 44 pages of these threads to make sure that this stuff works. Tomorrow, I will purchase the items and begin him on this regimen. I pray to God that this combination works for him. Money is nothing to me when it comes to my kids, I would glad pay out whatever it takes to clear his skin, but i do not want to waste my money on products that will not work for his severe acne.
I will let you know how he does. Please pray for him and wish us luck.
Hi s1294. I'm glad you got clear from using just water. I'm thinking about trying this for the next little while, as Dan's bp has left me extremely red, crusted, and swelled up. I seriously think I am allergic, and I started the regimen very slowly, but I guess I'm just intolerant to it. After nearly 3 weeks, I can barely move my neck and make facial expressions without cracking my skin, causing pain and extreme discomfort. It's tough to go out in public looking like this, but I've got to...
Anyway, can you give me some advice with your water-only regimen? Like if I have to use only warm water, cold water, or a combination of both? I plan to use it just to allow my face to calm down from all the "regimens" I've put it through, before I start on something else. Or perhaps, if it gives me the same results as you, I'll stay on it for a longer period of time.

I don't think just the water only cleared me up. Everyone is different, their sensitivity to chemicals. Unfortunately, I tried everything on the market, but everything broke me out, irregardless of the type. I couldn't use any type of foundation or cleanser or even soap. It ALL broke me out, made my face too dry etc. And by the way, a very dry face will cause you to wrinkle early in life. That is how wrinkles are formed, the face becomes drier, and wrinkles develop. When I quit using anything, I cleared up. Since I quit wearing foundation, I no longer needed to cleanse my face. I just use plain water, normally warm to wash it out, with a wash rag when I take a shower every morning. The wash rag is my exfoliate. lol You wouldn't believe the remarks I get over this. But they just want to sell their makeup and cleansers. This works for me. By the way, I am 40 but people guess me at 29-30 years old. I have even had 25 year olds ask me out. lol.
I continued to break out during my period, only 2 maybe 3 pimples, and then i would use oxy 10 to apply a thick spot to that area. It would usually be dried up by the next day. I switched birth control pills, and quit breaking out even that much, it went down to 1-2 each month. I also had a nasty habit of putting my hands on my chin, which would make me have blackheads. Hard habit to break. Now, I really check my face every three months or so for hidden black heads and find only a couple, very small, on my chin. So, small, that i have to use a magnified mirror to see them.
I wouldn't use hot water if i were you. It would just irritate your face. Your face is begging for moisture right now. I would use the most gently moisture in the worst spots, whenever i do apply moisture to my cheeks, they get really dry sometimes, i use the type from biore, I only use it in the winter, haven't used it in a long time. You may be like me, just too allergic to anything. I am wary about using such a high strength of BP for my son, but we have tried everything else for him, even the water. No luck. BP has a reputation to make you scar at full strength. As i stated before, I am a nurse. We don't use BP very often at all, it can actually keep the wounds from healing, it is really hard on tissue. And i caution my patients about using full strength BP on their face. It will cause you to scar, a plastic surgeon told me that. I hope this helps.
Also, one of my friends became a beautician, she HAD the most beautiful complexion, she never wore foundation, she didn't need it. Then in school they practiced cleansing masks, all the crap to cleanse the face. She now has trouble with acne, and blackheads. This girl never had breakouts in high school ever, until she started using the stuff to 'cleanse her face'. Now she has trouble getting rid of blackheads and pimples, so she hides them with foundation, which makes it worse.
well im back on botchla's regimen....i dunno maybe jess's regimen wasnt for me(gave it a lil over a month)...my skin looked nice at first but then it went beserk...zits left and right...so depressing...so ive been doing botchlas regimen for 2 days already and my face is way less inflamed...seems like everything is going down... this regimen worked in the past, and its bringing down all my current blemishes...but i wont get too excited since whenever i do my skin plays a trick on me ....time will tell...but i am happy that my red marks are turning into brown spots and thats usually how my healing process works cmon skin! do ur thang!
I'm thinking about trying this.....but I had one question....
Instead of using the clean and clear balckhead srub could I use the St. Ives Apricot Srub for Acne prone skin?.....By looking at the reviews on drugstore.com it looks like it is 100x better then the clean and clear scrub....I mean I guess it would work the same way. Has anyone has experiance with using the st. ives one instead of the clean and clear srub? I'm just comparing these two by the reivews given...I haven't tryed any of these products yet.
