I don't know if this helps, but I have been using a product I found on Amazon called Clear Poreformance. It is designed for the scalp, but I use it as a body wash as well and I like the results so far. ( 3 months ) and much clearer.

I am experiencing some pretty bad dryness around my mouth. Should I purchase the jojoba oil? I didn't originally, but I am thinking I may want to! Suggestions anyone?

(I am also thinking of reducing the frequency of my BP use until my skin becomes more accustomed to it. I am currently using it a pea sized amount morning and night, but am thinking of only doing it at night. I have been using the regimen for almost a full week now and the dryness is manageable but still irritating.)

on top of dryness and flakiness, has anyone's face been stinging?

I've only started using this regimen and the stinging feeling is reallly annoying :T

I haven't been using jojoba oil but do you think it will help the stinging?

Hey everyone,

I've done what I'm about to describe a few times to take care of my skin if it starts acting up and getting flaky, and I thought I ought to share it. It might be similar to something you're already doing if you use jojoba oil before applying BP. I think of it almost like a combination of a mask and a scrub, but very different in a lot of ways, and simpler than most homemade concoctions.

You would want to do this BEFORE cleansing your face or taking a shower, either morning or night is fine. You pour a good amount of jojoba oil into your palm, probably 10-12 drops worth or so, but basically just a large amount so that you can rub it all over your face. You start dabbing the jojoba oil all over your face, and once you have it all on there, you start massaging it in with your finger tips. At first, just lightly spread it around, but then build up pressure a little. Be very careful around active acne if you have it, but definitely rub in the jojoba oil. Don't be aggressive, but you don't want to be quite as gentle as you are when you apply BP, for example. You should feel some grittiness to your skin as you massage the jojoba oil in, which is a combination of the skin that was flaking off and maybe some residual BP/moisturizer, since after all, you haven't washed your face yet. The massage helps to loosen a whole bunch of flakes and is also good for your circulation as a bonus. I give my face a massage for several minutes straight, just rubbing it in and picking up more and more grittiness. You might put a couple more drops of oil on very dry patches partway through to help loosen those flakes even more. When you feel like you've loosened all that you can and that new gritty stuff isn't coming up (or if you get the the point where you think your face will start to get raw if you go for much longer, which means you should have used more jojoba oil, I suspect), then stop. Just leave the jojoba oil on your face for about another 10 minutes so that your face is really nice and moisturized, like leaving on a moisturizing mask. Then, just wash it off! You might want to wash your face off in the shower since the heat will make removing the jojoba oil easier if your cleanser is really mild, but it shouldn't be too hard to clean up. You mostly just want to get rid of the grittiness and leftover crud you had on your face, nothing wrong with leaving some jojoba oil behind. Then do your regimen as normal following cleansing, perhaps even using more jojoba oil before BP if that's what you like to do.

You might wonder if this is excessively irritating. I think it's a good deal less irritating than using a brush of some sort to physically remove flakes, and since a lot of people seem to be able to handle that as it is, this should be tolerable for even more people. I also think it's less irritating than a scrub because you're loosening the flakes with a moisturizing oil (technically jojoba oil is a liquid wax but whatever :P), rather than ripping them off with some abrasive bits. Plus, as a bonus, you have this moisturizing, protective barrier on your face for a little bit while you're massaging the jojoba oil in and leaving it on for the 10 minutes, so it's like a therapeutic moisturizing mask. If you know that jojoba oil makes you break out, obviously, this is not the flake treatment for you, and if you have such sensitive skin that massaging your face for a few minutes would leave you feeling irritated, then this is also not for you. For everyone else, though, I think this is a nice way to deal with flakes as they come up, either as regular treatment several times a week or just something to do once in a while when they get bad.

Hope this helps! If you try this and like it or hate it, definitely leave feedback so that others may benefit; after all, I'm the only person with my exact skin, so I don't know how other people will handle it. I wouldn't expect perfect results at first if your face is very dry and has too many flakes to deal with, but if you try this every other day or so, I think you'd see an improvement in your skin's texture and dryness pretty quickly.

Well, I tried this method for two weeks.

I went from clear, to a face full of cysts, pimples, and a few redmarks that will probably take a few months to go away.

If you can rub your skin like that without breaking out, you do not have acne prone skin.

Which is odd as this is a site for people with acne prone skin.

Why is this stickied? What moderator thought it was a good idea to sticky a post advocating users to rub their skin?

And why was I stupid enough to try it?

I agree... this method should not be used for people with acne prone skin

I used jojoba oil because i had severe dead skin from the benzoyl peroxide... and because i have used the jojoba oil (used for like a month and two weeks), it gave me these weird rice/grain like plugs in areas where i rubbed the jojoba oil.

I definitely DO NOT reccomend using it.

Also, how hard did you rub?

Also, how hard did you rub?

Lightly because I was worried something terrible would happen, like what happened.

Light enough that it didn't even remove most of the flakes.

I just started the Regimen and the problem I'm immediately presented with is the one I've always had - extreme drying right after washing.

Prior to starting daniel's regimen i used a similar version of my own and i generally used a little moisturizer right after i washed, in the 15 minutes before i used the BP. I did this because in that space of time my face would basically experience DESERTIFICATION.

It seems like the BP wouldnt absorb as well to an already dry face.

Yeah, it seems that if you want to rub jojoba oil to get rid of flakes, you should do it after you wash because that's when all the flakes appear. I understand you wanna wash away all jojoba oil with the cleanser, but couldn't you just splash water on your face and then wait 15 minutes and apply the BP and then moisturize?

Have any of you guys tried putting on moisturizer before the BP? My skin is already so dry after washing it (and flaky too!) that it burns and hurts to put BP on. The moisturizer calms my skin down in preparation of the BP! Plus I find the BP to be very mattifying so that make up could go over it. Has anyone tried this yet? Please let me know! Thanks!

I haven't read through all of the comments on this post but I just began the regimen (with dan's products) almost a week ago, and like all of you have experienced the extreme dryness/flaking a couple of days into the regimen. After reading through a lot of other suggestions/posts, I purchased Olay complete for sensitive skin with SPF 15 (about 6$ at walmart for a 4oz bottle) and my skin is DRAMATICALLY better today than yesterday. Yesterday I could barely move my face (smiling, eating) and was flaking like CRAZY. I used the Olay last night and this morning and my face is seriously 150% times better!!

I'm giving this a shot right now. I cleanse, wait 10 minutes, scrub with jojoba, leave it on (dab away the super-shiny areas), wait 10 more minutes, and then apply BP. No moisturizer because having the jojoba on my face is enough to eliminate any post-BP tightness.

I can sense that after several days of this I'll probably be 100% flake-free. My only fear is that the jojoba will end up breaking me out, like it's done to some other people. I did get some new acne after my first jojoba application, but I'm not 100% sure whether it's the oil or something else. Only time will tell. There's still a month and a half to go before I have to be out in public again (fall semester of college), so if by the end of July I have mad acne because of jojoba, then I'll give something else a shot.

I tried this, and while it has helped with flakes, nothing has helped with the tightness of my skin. I've been on the regimen for almost 5 weeks now, thinking my skin would have adjusted by now. I'm happy to say that I'm clear, but the tightness is killing me. I wash with the cleanser, wait 10 mins, apply one pump BP (reduced down from 3, then to 2, then to 1 after I got clear, hoping the reduced amount would help) morning and night, wait 10-15 mins, apply 3 pumps dan's new moisturizer with about 5 drops jojoba, then apply a pump of the olay sensitive sunscreen he recommends, with another 5 drops of jojoba. Within minutes of doing this, my face is STILL tight! It's not flaky after doing all that, thank god, but the tightness is really getting old. I haven't smiled fully in weeks because when I do, I can just feel my skin pulling and cracking. I'm using double the recommended amount of jojoba, even started applying it before bp, im down to one pump of bp twice daily, i really don't know what else to do to combat how tight my skin is. I love being clear, but I can't even smile about it

try Neosporin, i find it to work really really good for dryness

I would put my BP on at night just alone, than in the morning wake up wash it off than put a nice coat of neosporin all over my face, this works really really good for acne i have noticed and any other spots or blemishes.

But neo makes ur face look very shinny lol, so you might wanna stay home when doing this, keep it in for 2-3 hours, the more the better than wash off and put a little bit of moisturizer

..I've never had any problems with breakouts because of rubbing my skin.

I am having problems with flakiness after 7 months (on and off flakiness) and I don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong. Do I need to do the regimen every other day? Do I need to skip using the cleanser until every other day or all together? I'm helpless. This would be a perfect regimen if my skin wouldn't be so damn dry. I use Olay Complete all day UV protection for sensitive skin.

I wish I knew in advance whether Jojoba would break me out.

People get acne for different reasons, some get it from irritation etc (so this jojoba mask will probably not help you).

My acne is hormonal and therefore this mask works great for me as outside factors like that don't really affect my acne.

I thought about trying this a couple times. I read somewhere that Jojoba oil makes a good cleanser because it removes skin and oil. So im very glad you made this post. I think i will try it for sure now.

As for BP, I thought about mixing a drop or two of jojoba oil with my actual BP and then rubbing it on my face. Do you think this would help out with some of the excessive drying?

This is definitely right! And the most important fact is thatJojoba oil helps promote healing of the skin in many ways. :)

in my opinion, it would be better if you do the jojoba oil massage method after the shower and before you wash your face with cleanser..b/c after the shower, your face would be a lot softer...that make it easier to massage..when ur face is soft, you don't have to put a lot of pressure on ur face when message..it means less irritation and the flake come off faster...i usually pat my face after shower..then wash hands...and do the OCM for 3 mins maximum..then wash it off with cleanser and followed with the rest of the regimen..
