problems with dryness or flaking?

True true.

I have another question, sorry! You mentioned, jojoba before BP?? Because flakiness is quite a big problem for me. So you just slap on jojoba (pat or rub?) before BP, day and night? Or just day?

I do the jojoba oil before BP both day and night in a way similar to what I described above, but with less jojoba oil and time. I use about 5-6 drops for my whole face. At first I start dabbing them on problem areas (eyelids, around mouth, sides of face), and then I put on the rest and sort of pat it on. I use a massaging technique similar to what I described in my really long post above, but not for nearly as long, just to cover my face. If I accidentally used too much jojoba oil, I might blot some off. I wait just a minute or two and then start applying BP as normal. The BP takes a bit longer to rub in, what really threw me off for a long time, though, is that once you've gotten it to disappear, your face won't feel nearly as tight or dry. Even after waiting 15 minutes, my face doesn't get that feeling, which it always used to get. I apply normal moisturizer at that time for more hydration, sun protection, and/or the benefits of regular AHA use, though I don't always feel that I need the extra moisture because I'm so used to BP. At first I was very worried that this would interfere with the absorption of the BP and make it less effective, but not at all, and of other posters who have tried this, I don't think any of them found that this made the BP less effective.

Gyroscope352 also uses jojoba oil before BP, but in a slightly different way, so you might want to see .

Ok so after jojoba oil after washing...Do you need to wash your hands before BP?

id like to know about this too!

Sometimes I wash my hands between jojoba oiling and BP, sometimes I don't. I tend not to when I only use a little bit of jojoba.

wait so you just leave the flakes on your skin? Why not try rubbing them gently when your face is wet? Most of my flakes seem to loosen off by rubbing them for like 5 seconds.

just curious, but has anyone experienced any scarring from the jojoba oil exfoliation method?

Can I use DK's moisturizer for this instead?

i don't see why not. i'd try it.

I use DK's moisturizer after using BP and it totally gets rid of all flakiness instantly!! I use DK's cleanser, BP, and moisturizer for the regimen and it works fine.

i wanna try it

I do something similar because I wear makeup, but with olive oil. Before I wash my face at night i rub extra virgin olive oil onto my face, then wash it off with a gentle cleanser. It really helps condition and smooth everything out. When my flakes get really bad my secret is clearisil pads with salicylic acid.... they are so bad and will do more harm than good if you use them everyday, but when flakes show up I use one after washing and make sure I load on moisturizer at night. My skin looks great and flake free in the morning! I usually skip bp when I do this to give my skin a break and let it heal, plus the pads have alcohol which kinda stings.

Hey everyone

For those that have just started the regimen, i know it seems like the worst stage with the redness and flakiness, but du please stick to it like everyone in this forum keeps tellin u to do.. I was also one of the members that had doubts but had no other choices after spendin hundreds of pounds on cosmetic productsm avoiding dairy and all sorts but i have been on this acne regimen for about 4 months now and my skin is luking clear, i highly recommend the use of jojoba oil before bp which takes care of flakiness like kim mentions and a gd moisturiser, nivea with jojoba oil and vitamin e is great and the magical AHA, it sure takes care of dryness and makes ur skin luk clear day by day; its a gradual effect so dont expect anythin magical at first. you do ahve to give it atleast 2 3 months my acne was moderate and especially round cheeks and it cleared in 3 months. i feel like i am jinxing it by saying clear, but:) its done a great job. a huge thankyou to dan for such great products and the members of acne.org, just wanted to let you know how grateful i am. I am hoping the products would be sold all round europe since we du pay a large amount to ship it. more than the product itself sometimes, but regardless five star:D

Thank you so much!!!!

I've tried the regimen a few times, but I've never been able to get past about day 5 when my skin gets so sore and flaky that I can't take the thought of putting more BP on it. I read this post and went out and bought some Jojoba oil from the local health food store and it really helps. I rub it on before I wash my face to remove all the flakes and then I mix it with my moisturizer and apply that after the BP. I'm at day 7 (a new record for me), and my face still stings a little, but nothing like it has it the past.

I live in small town Canada, and these are the products I was able to find locally:

Now brand Jojoba Oil

Cetaphil cleanser for oily skin

Panoxyl mild 2.5% BP gel

Cetaphil acne solutions moisturizer

He doesn't recommend rubbing your face with it before washing. He does recommend adding the jojoba oil to your moisturizer though. He says a few drops help with the flakiness and to control his oil production.

OMG thank you for this post! I have been on the regimen for about a month and I am experiencing flakes and a lot of dryness around my chin/neck. I will def try this out tomorrow morning.

I have a question for everyone. Should I maintain my BP dose or switch to BP once a day until my skin becomes less dry? Right now I am using about 60% of Dan's recommended BP dose.

From my experience with lot of acne to no acne, do not use oil, jojoba or any oil!!!! The best moisturizer if you skin is dry and you are trying to stay away from acne and large pores is pure Hylauronic acid serum or DMAE Serum. I get mine from anais skin care, you cna google it to found their website.

They olso have a Bergamot facial mist that is great for dry irritated skin and it is Vegan and smell so good! This is what i have been using and i am acne free now.

TCA cleanser, twice a day

Tca Toner, twice a day

Bergamot mist, twice a day

Gorgeous peel, once a month.

I get all this from anais skin care.

I tend to have very dry/sensative skin, and about a year ago my dermatologist put me on MOISTUREL and it has saved my life! It's a moisturizer specifically made for those prone to acne with dry and sensative skin. It is nongreasy and fast absorbing, and most importantly it will not clog pores. I use this stuff morning and night and I absolutely love it :) It works spledidly. The only annoying thing about this product is that it's only provided over the counter, so you have to get it like prescriptions. It costs about $12 for a 16oz bottle.

Hope it helps! It's especially great for this drying wintery weather ;)

Tried Kim's method last night and shortly after my face was looking like a lizard, usual drying and the cleanser was ued occured. Then I tried Gyro's method just now and flakes occured in between apply jojoba and BP, now with BP my face is cracking, I can't smile etc. still very taut.

I am not saying these methods don't work but they seem just to not be for me, can anyone giveme any advices asto why/alternatives.

No one with active acne should massage their skin.

It's like; Great, I have inflamed pores, imbalanced amount of bacteria on my skin which also feeds on oil, let's pour more oil to feed the bacteria and add more pressure to my inflamed pores!! YAYA

No.

Just stuck to gently washing -> gently applying BP

completely agree with itz acne! jojoba oil does sort out my dryness for about 5 mins and then my face returns to its cracky/flaky state.

this is my fourth month on the regimen, so far all my pimples have GONE! :) but the main problem now is my face is too dry

has ANYONE tried anything different thats worked?

Hey Abara!

I just ended the third month of the Acne.org Regimen and my skin is soo much better! Right now I'm using the Eucerin Smoothing Essentials (which contains aHA) which is pretty amazing for my skin but I still get little dry spots like at the sides of my nose. You can't really tell but when I wear liquid foundation its just so obvious!

If your skin is feeling extremely dry you could try the Eucerin SMoothing Essentials and then top it off with a lighter moisturizer that you can use to spot treat dry spots.
