Most oils should never be heated. They become toxic when they are. So with that in mind, look for coconut oil that is cold pressed! Do a little research. And don't heat it up if you can avoid it. Oils that have been heated, like vegetable oil, sesame, even extra virgin olive oil, will become very harmful to you as an acne sufferer. So keep those oils in mild quantities. And consume lots of heat free coconut oil. I put 2-3 tablespoons in a fruit shake in the morning. That way I can get it down. lol.
coconut oil is by far the best oil to cook with.
Is it okay to keep eating my cocounut oil if it turned solid? I noticed a small crack in the plastic top so it let air in sad.gif It doesn't smell bad, but I just bought it so I'm a little dissapointed. Help!
I would let it go liquid and transfer the contents into a air tight container. How long have you had it? i wouldnt take it if it has been over 1 month like that. It doesnt really go rancid but I can't mess with it.
I'm about to go on vacation for 3 days. If I bought some coconut oil and my acne was in fact due to candida... would it be a good idea to buy some and take it with me in case I want to splurge on some chicken or something like that as a back up plan?
I'm going to try this stuff, it's just a matter of when. If the results are almost instantly helpful and the chance sof it causing me to break out are slim to none then I would be willing to try it. (It has a lot of saturated fat looks like..which worries me.. Everything that has saturated fat ive tried so far is bad news)
The bset way to ingst coconut oil is with out frying. But if you still want to fry chicken you can with coconut oil, it is the best oil to coook. TRust me I have even tried doing experiments on my body. I rank like about 7 table spoons of olive oil before a day and I did notice my skin was really messed up, with big ass cysts! I also posted something on the forum when I was eating olive oil about my bath tub being filled up with a lot of dead cells, this is the so called thing about olive oil being oxdized much faster. My lungs were also suffereing. And the other type of fat, polyunsaturated will make your cysts really big. Try eating pork. I thank OMETLEOLT for coconut oil.
I did not get what were u excactly saying about olive oil ....i have sarted cooking with olive oil and I have noticed that I have been having some bad outbreaks ...could it be because of that ..
That weird, sounds like you might have an allergic reaction to coconut oil. IAaave been taking it for about 3 weeks now and the only thing thatAaas happened to me was I got this thing that I call AaAred jointsAa? the first time I ate it. Was it painful? Can you eat other nut/nut products?
No it wasn't painful, just an irritation in the throat. As if it was forming mucus. I eat plenty of nuts especially almonds and walnuts and never had a problem. I will try another Tbsp on coconut oil tonight and see what happens. What would the "red joints" be due to? Increased blood circulation?
maybe you should start out smaller, like only 1 teaspoon and work your way up.
I have know idea what the "red joints" is from the frist time I got it (about 2.5 years ago) I though that it might be poison ivy/oak or a bug bite, but it really has something to do with food. It's weird my joins get all red and hot.
Tried it again last night and the irritation wasn't nearly as bad. Hopefully it will disappear.
Olive Leaf are you taking Niacin amide? I used to take this and every time I did I'd get red & hot ears, nose, fingers, knuckles, elbows and knees. I stopped it but the heat and redness was because of increased blood circulation.
do you fell like the irritation that you get is anything to wore about?
no I don't taking Niacin amide (don't even know what it is lol what is it, can I some how get it in the food I eat?) it started at a summer camp. I eat breakfast then my knees elbows, ears, hands ect got red and hot. I went to the camp nures and she said that she's never seen it b4. said that if it got any worse I should go to a Dr. I don't think its that bad. I get it on and off now, I was thinking that it might be from dairy but now that I got it after I ate the coconut oil I have no idea what it is
Sorry Olive Leaf, Niacin amide is the same thing as vit b3. B3 increases the blood flow to the body's extremities (peripheral circulation)and I was sensitive to it which caused my ears, nose, fingers, knees and elbows to go red and hot. I did a google search on "coconut oil + blood circulation" to see if there was a link and I found this:
COCONUT OIL FOR POOR CIRCULATION
Do you feel cold much of the time? You might try coconut oil, which is said to increase body temperature (and blood pressure). This is due to the increasing metabolic rate as medium-chain fatty acids of the coconut oil are burned.
Maybe that is why it gives you "red joints". Personally, I think that when you get these symptoms, you must have eaten something that promotes your blood circulation or metabolic rate causing the blood to flow to your extremities making them red and hot. Are you still taking the coconut oil? If so, are you still getting the "red joints" or has it stopped? How much do you take a day? From what I have read this stuff is amazing and I have only just discovered it! I'll hopefully be able to increase the dose to 3 Tbsp/day.
Snowy, thanks for the info on the niacin amide, it sounds like thats what I get. I only got it one time from the coconut oil.
Ive been taking it for about 3 weeks and I have 3 teaspoons 3x's a day. Sometimes I eat a little more, for a snack I'll have dried fruit with coconut oil on it (its really really good) I've thought about eating more of it but some people say that its not good for you also like any oil its high in fat. Maybe some day I'll up it a little
Have you ever put it on your face? Whats your acne like? I hope that it works for you and that the thing that you get goes away soon.
I've been taking threelac which really helps, BUT it's stupidly expensive, ridiculous really.
I'm going to try some coconut oil this evening, so how have you guys been getting on?
Make sure it is "extra virgin" coco oil.
If not it could solidify if the temperature is not right.

correction: make sure it is cold-pressed coconutoil, extra vergin means first press
I hear you should take 5 tablespoons a day? thats a lot

I don't understand what you are saying. Coconut oil IS solid at room temp. If the room is REALLY warm, it might become slightly liquid.
But yes, try to buy raw, UNREFINED coconut oil.

For some reason it takes less temperatur for extra virgin to become solid. And the extra virgin type is healthier.
Just go with this company tropicaltraditions.com and you can't go wrong, I buy that brand from mercola.com because he has it better priced and their shipping is fast.
ok the ONLY one i can buy in the UK was AA19 and called 'Pure coconut oil' it's solid white, kinda like lard.
I took a spoon full and it made me gag haha. but if the results are good I don't mind so much.
Regardless of the consistancy etc, will this stuff still do the job?
ok people who dont know coconut oil in room temperature is solid because its a saturated fat
extra virgina olive oil (monounsat) is great for my skin as well, i use both, but more extra virgin olive oil though
i also eat brazil nuts its alot like coconuts both have higher saturated fat and not to mention that the protein in it is 96% amino acids
i do believe these are 5 to 10x less harmful if not more then animal saturated fats
i been hearing some not so good things about polunsaturated fats i guess ya can google (heart problems?) that and i havent notice any significant benefits of flaxseed oil, soy is an inhibitor with eggs. i notice soy milk slows my heart pace. im thinking these fats are best eaten without any other foods
i dunno what yall are feeling with that many tablespoons and i dont know what else yall eat but like one other person said 1 tablespoon is enough for most of yall if you eat pretty large amount of foods. ill stay with my liberal amount of extra virgin olive oil.
another thing that came to me with animal fats cooking will change the molecules of the fats just like cooking with the oils changes its molecules. i researched about eating the raw egg yolk and checking if its safe and id say this does wonders (ive been doing that over a month) and sashimi and sushi i try to get in atleast once a week ill try and get some cod oil sometime.
a little coconut oil is ok topically for those cold winter days when there is no moisture in the air. and most other oils i know of like evo isnt something about the vit E. Other then that id put nothing on my face and let it secrete naturally
so dont get mad at me if i think 6 to 8 tablespoons is wrong (the sat fat is very very high) its just common sense to me to reason that most people like to eat pizza and other saturated fat foods. and if you do id invest in some cheerios when you chlosterol gets high. But ofcourse these oils that we take in and secrete are good for us because they keep us youthful (less wrinkles) they arent pore cloggin oil like the sebious oils. and last but not least it helps feed the brain. again ill say it more clearly i eat a variety of saturated fats from raw egg yolk, brazil nuts, and the small amounts from the other foods , the bad foods i get time to time, and to eco. ill probably only need 1 to 2 tablespoons to keep my skin healthy and acne free and thus my body as well!

I bought mine from Ebay :lol2: , yeah its kinda weird....when its cold the oil goes all white, hard and flaky and when its hot it melts into a yellow liquid. I mix mine in a salad and it adds a nice aroma.
Its important that you buy the cold pressed or stone pressed ones.

You only need 2 tablespoons a day.
And don't worry about the saturate fat, the demonizing of saturated fat is unfounded, you have different types of saturated fats and some of them are extremely good for you and will not cause the negatives like other saturated fats.
Of course too much of a good can become a bad thing.
I would read this before you decide to add BHT to anything. Seems like a mixed bag, and not entirely without risks.
Are BHA and BHT safe?
Both BHA and BHT have undergone the additive application and review process required by the US Food and Drug Administration. However, the same chemical properties which make BHA and BHT excellent preservatives may also be implicated in health effects. The oxidative characteristics and/or metabolites of BHA and BHT may contribute to carcinogenicity or tumorigenicity; however the same reactions may combat oxidative stress. There is evidence that certain persons may have difficulty metabolizing BHA and BHT, resulting in health and behavior changes. BHA and BHT may have antiviral and antimicrobial activities. Research is underway concerning the use of BHT in the treatment of herpes simplex and AIDS.
100% virgin, unrefined coconut oil should not need any additives, as it has the highest smokepoint of any oil and the longest shelf-life as well. Some people simply do not like the taste and smell of the oil though: this might account for nausea in some cases. If your oil does seem off though, definitely take it back and get it replaced. Then you'll know if it's a problem with the oil, or if you simply can't tolerate the smell and taste of the oil. If you can't tolerate it, you can try using caprylic acid capsules instead in order to fight your candida (in conjunction with a candida no-sugar no-starch diet).
A little more info on BHA & BHT (use with caution):
BHA & BHT
These two closely related chemicals are added to oil-containing foods to prevent oxidation and retard rancidity. The International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organization, consider BHA to be possibly carcinogenic to humans, and the State of California has listed it as a carcinogen. Some studies show the same cancer causing possibilities for BHT.

Definitly stick to natural coco oil with nothing added.
I haven't read all 7 pages of this post so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. Coconut oil is supposed to be highly comedogenic if used topically. See www.zerozits.com/Articles/acnedetect.htm. It contains a list of the relative irritability and comedogenicity (sp???) of various ingredients in skincare and cosmetics. I don't know if the info is correct but it is the most comprehensive list I have been able to find. BTW I have not tried any of the products referred to in the site so cannot say anything about whether they are helpful or not. However, I agree that internally coconut oil is supposed to be very healthful.
