Yeah, I guess were all different, especially being opposite sexes. what works for one may not for another, so who knows. Maybe the sun was a fluke or maybe it stopped because of my menstrual cycle.
Some things that do not work one iota for me areHair Skin & Nails supplement(no b5 in it), allformsof b complexes, biotin, selenium, Brewers yeast, NAC, cysteine, l-carnitine, inositol, relora, zinc.None of those did a thing and most made sheddingworse. I am also experiencing scalp irritation and I can feel 3-4 itchy bumps towards the top back of my head that almost feel like tiny zits (could be from Nizoral.)My shedding is occurring randomly all over my head, short and long hairs equally it seems.
My front hairline looks good, no receding even thoughIve always had a high irish forehead and widows peak. My mom and older sis both have full heads of thick long hair. Males in my fam all had premature mpbstarting in very early 20s.
The hair that is coming out of me has very tiny bulbs on the end, like miniaturized compared to whats on a normal strand. No bald patches, just generalized thinning.
I decided against trying the saw palmetto because of what Brendan said plus all the reviews online say it slows the hair shed but causes massive rebound shedding as soon as its stopped.
I ambeginning to soften to the idea that its thyroid or adrenal-related and not dht-related except in a secondary sort of way. DHT blockers work for us but its a bandaid on a bullet hole situation that doesnt really fix the underlying problems. Whichever it is, its assuredly some sort of endocrine issue. Supplement-wise, my latest attempts
#1. A thyroid support supplement that has iodine in it called Thyrofem. Says on the bottle that its safe for men to use as well, in case anyone was wondering.
#2. Aliquid mineral supplement (similar to molasses but with more minerals in it.)
#3. 1 tsp Pink Himalayan sea salt dissolved in water per day.
#4. A Generic Probiotic supplement called Accuflora that I already had laying around.
#5. Staying on Spearmint tea 2X a day as well as Nizoral. Will probably never stop these 2.
*I also wanted to point outThe Essential Womanvitamin mentioned by lamp87 way back in November 2014 posts. The ingredients areprimrose oil, flax oil, and plant phytonutrients. That one I had to order online so itll probably be Christmas before it gets here.
Im going to try these for a month and update then.
Hi guys I know I said Id wait 30 days but I bought a drugstore primrose oil supplement while I was waiting for the brand lamp87 mentioned back in 2014. I started them Saturday. By Sunday my shedding started to taper. Today zero shedding. I take 1,000mg capsule three times a day. I also broke open a few capsules and massaged then into my scalp and left it in for a few hours. Something weird is happening to my head, in addition to no further shedding, it is no longer itchy/irritated. This may be worth looking into for some of you.
Essential Woman showed up yesterday, its the brand lamp87 took. Ive taken 3 capsules so far, last night and today Im just taking that and not the drugstore primrose. Still no more hair loss. If this continues, this may be the solution. Heres whats in Essential Woman:
flaxseed oil, soy isoflavones, evening primrose oil, flaxseed particulates, rosemary extract, ascorbic acid.
Heres an article about it:

Heres a scientific study:

Heres an excerpt from study in case you dont want to read the whole thing:
Yes thats exactly what Im taking. You can find it on ebay for $11-$15. I also broke some open and massaged it into my scalp, left it in for most of day yesterday. Itseemed to make an immediate impact even though ppl around me said it smelled funny.
Also,The Essential Woman has primrose oil in it but it also has these ingredients:
Blend of flaxseed oil, soy isoflavones, evening primrose oil, flaxseed particulates, rosemary extract, ascorbic acid.
Katie your smarter than me can you check something out for me please. The reason i never tried essential woman is because its for woman, however barleans do a similar one for men called omega man. Could you have a look and see if you think omega man would be better for us guys or if we should just get essential woman. There both fairly similar but they do have some differences. Thanks:-)
Thanks for the compliment. I just checked the ingredients on Omega Male, they are very similar to Essential Woman but they are lacking the primrose oil. I would say go ahead and get the Essential Woman, as the ingredients can be used safely for men. The only harm would be a bit of embarrassment.
*Hair update-still no shedding. This is the longest stretch Ive experienced so far without any hairloss. I believe its over now.
So far Im feeling fine but over the last two days the supplement is giving me a very mild headache, like the kind you can sort of just ignore and forget about. Still its a bit annoying. My hair feels fabulous though, nothing falling out. Im so happy to have found this. Christmas is going to be great, Im actually looking forward to it now.
Oh right okay thanks for the info.
so it's obviously not the flaxseed either??
i used epo for about three months last year and no chances whatsoever good or bad.
maybe well woman might still be worth a trial though.
maybe mike fixed the problem it would be good to hear from him
I found another review by Cherub on Amazon that she left for The EssentialWoman, shes the one who left the Amazon review for Pantothenic Acid saying it made her hair fall out.
So, to sum up, so far cherub, lamp87, and myself have successfully stopped the loss with this product. What we have in common is that we are all females, we all took mega b5 doses, and we all used this specific product, so Im very curious to see if this works for males too.
If it does work, it suggests something super simple to me. It means the mega b5 helped us to metabolize fats, thereby drying up skin sebum and oil, but it worked too well, almost like a steroid. So in addition to our skin sebum drying, it caused the sebum oils in our follicles to dry as well, creating basically like a dry barren desert in our scalp where we couldnt produce the essential fats and oils to keep the hair nourished and in the head.
I dont know why stopping b5 wouldnt eventually lead to replenishing the oils over time, except to say that we mustve really fried something, lol. Maybe the supplement provides a type of oil we cant make or utilize because weve fucked with the system. This would explain why I still had oily hair with the hair loss. It just wasnt the right kind of oil. This supplement has omega 3,6,9 but it has some other oils well. I dont really understand the mechanism behind all the ingredients, just to say that it seems to be replenishing the fats and oils needs to maintain healthy hair shaft.
Nice info there katie, what you have written seems to make alot of sence. I have to wash my hair everyday otherwise it looks oily. I really hope this is the cure. Im from the uk too and am in the same shoes as you brendan ive spent hundreds of pounds on useless supplements. For sure i will try this tho but have to wait till january for it to come back in stock plus its xmas too but i will buy it. Things are looking up guys.
