I'm at the point now where i'm getting a bit paranoid as I seem to be losing smaller hairs from my head. At the moment my hair needs a bit of a cut as its getting long but I keep finding hairs on my jumper and pillow that are half or a quarter of the size as the normal strands of hair. As I've said on here before, I've always had the 'V' shaped hair thing going on, but it seems to be receding quickly over these past three/four years (round about from the time I did the b5 experiment for a few weeks).
@Bosie I seem to be losing some shorter hairs as well, have done so since the hair loss started. I have had a high, uneven hairline since birth. I have actually been asked if I had hair loss when I was like 13.
I looked at my hairline closely with a second mirror yesterday and I have not really receded much if I'm honest, maybe 1cm at most but since I have always had a receded hairline it seems to show more. I mainly have loss of density on the temples, the middle of my hairline is still very thick. Same goes for the back and sides. The hair on the top of my head has maybe gotten a bit thinner but not dramatically. I have, however, discovered that my part line seems to be getting wider but that may just be the mature hairline phenomenon.
@Blue09 A few people are on Propecia I believe. I am also considering going on Propecia once I turn 19 but I feel like the side effects are still too dangerous at such a young age. I have had a dermatologist look at my scalp but all he said was that I had some minor inflammation and possibly seborrheic dermatits and he wrote me a recipe for a tincture to put on my scalp
Edit: Fuck it, here are some pictures in case anyone wants to see:
My juvenile hairline, stayed the same through childhood and puberty:
My hairline at roughly 17 before the hair loss started(I have some more pics but this is probably the most accurate one): I blowdried my hair up and then combed it forward and to the right a bit to cover my left temple. If you look closely you can see it on this picture
My hairline last week(Age 18.5) with wet hair combed back:
Hairline last week with wet hair and hair pulled back:
Here is my left temple(you can see the thinning areas):
Here is my right temple:
As for this 'no fap' (eloquent) idea how would sexual tension and built up desire help with hair loss or depression?? Are we meant to become Buddhists and renounce worldly pleasures
Stress takes a toll on hormones.

@ Elmechanico
Your hairline actually looks pretty good in my opinion. At worst its in the very early stages of a Norwood 2 but you may find as you get older your hair just gets that 'mature' look that's not actually MPB. I'm in no way qualified to say what the best course of action is especially as i'm 28 and am probably dealing with a Norwood 3 at this stage but if I were in your shoes I would just be keeping an eye on things rather than worrying too much. Again, i'm no expert, especially on propecia but I've taken anti-depressents for a long time in my life and can not take the risk of propecia's side effects (apparently very rare but still too risky for me in my own circumstances).
@freakingthefrackout I think the idea is to stabilise your hormones but I imagine it would be kind of counter productive if you're getting no outlet whatsoever. DHT is meant to be THE major hair loss problem with men (outside of B5 and Accutane use) and I think sex does increase dht levels, but I can't imagine what benefit abstinence would have for female hair loss. Again, seems kind of counter productive in terms of stress release.
elmechanico- one thing you mentioned which does fill me with hope is apple cider vinegar. I've read good things about both topical application and daily ingestion, started doing both. Smells weird but doesn't need massaging as vigorously as oil or washing out as hard- so you don't get the depressing stress of literally pulling your own hair out. How long have you been using apple cider vinegar?
And yeah I don't get the no masturbation thing. If you don't have a girl/boyfriend it would be tragic lol. I'm sure becoming a nun would be good for the soul and scalp but really who can be bothered
How can the body tell if you orgasm by yourself or with someone else lol? I presume they're not saying that sex in general exacerbates hair loss? So why should masturbation be any different to normal sex? Both make the same reaction in the body.

Regarding ACV, 3 months probably. By the way, drink it through a straw. The acid can fuck up your enamel
Regarding NoFap, it is not the masturbation/orgasm that is the problem, it is the porn use that goes with it. Watching porn gives you a dopamine rush and by constantly abusing porn and masturbation(which also gives you a dopamine rush) to make you feel good you will soon find it difficult to have motivation to do other things. Have a look at http://www.yourbrainonporn.com
I am sorry to hear that. Have you considered buzzing it? I think once you go NW3 or further it looks best to just buzz it.
Do you have any pictures of before B5 and now?
It seems that I have inherited the high hairline from my father, he had a high, uneven hairline with receded corners since birth too. He doesn't have MPB and has a really full head of hair at age 50.
I have also posted on a hair loss forum and most of them said I am a NW1.5 and it could be just mature hairline but I am not sure why the hair loss would start exactly as I am taking B5.
I think the fact that I have a high and round forehead just accentuates it more.
About 1 week ago I have started to apply aloe vera gel to my scalp every day. My scalp and hair feel great at the moment, you guys should give it a try.
It also helps with growing hair from what I've read
I used to play a lot of football (soccer), but it is difficult now since this whole thing started because my toe-nails keep falling off, and that is pretty painful when playing. Never had this problem before the hair loss. This could just be a coincidence, but can't help thinking if it could be related.
Do they actually fall off? Maybe you should go to a doctor?
From what I know Keratin is used to produce hair both hair and nails, so maybe that points to a deficiency there.
Have you tried taking Zinc and Biotin? They are pretty commonly found in supplements for hair, nails and skin.
I get them in my multivitamin.
I personally haven't noticed a change in my nails
Has anybody used Biotin in high doses? I get my daily value from my multivit but I think you need to take more to cure a deficiency.
However, I seem to remember that some people already tried Biotin and it didn't work

Yes they fall off, but it takes a long time. When I play football they get loose and painful. Then it takes a few months before another nail grows underneath, they fall of and it starts over again.

I would go to a doctor if I were you. Maybe try Zinc supplementation.
I play football myself and my nails get quite a beating from being stepped on all the time but they don't fall off or anything
Is anyone else afraid to try Biotin because of it's supposed relationship with acne? My skin has improved 60-70% for a year now to the point where I really don't worry about it too much anymore and i'm more concerned about hair loss. Biotin does have a decent reputation for encouraging hair growth but on almost all review sites I see somebody saying how it broke them out in terrible acne
I have to say, I've been using a thickening shampoo for the past 3 or 4 weeks or so and it does give the appearance of a thicker and fuller head of hair. It's no miracle by any means and I still find hairs falling out the same as ever but the effect it produces does look nice at least. A slight annoyance is that it leaves the hair a little dry and dandruff becomes an issue but it makes my hair look better.
Promising update everyone...
Over the last few weeks I have noticed that I would get bloated after a big meal or a meal with lots of protein. I've never had the sensation before and kind of just chalked it up to getting older (26). One day I decided to do a little snooping and found out that a common cause of some of the symptoms I had been experiencing was low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria). You can look it up yourselves but it is linked with malabsorbtion of minerals/vitamins and proteins (and brittle nails and hair loss directly) which could account for long term hair loss. The reason it doesn't just fix itself is because once the acid is low enough then certain bacteria and fungi start to flourish that also hurt the production of acid.
Now, that alone isn't enough to say for certain its the cause of our problem so I decided to get a supplement that's used to treat low HCL in the stomach (Betaine HCL) to see if that might improve things. Normally a healthy person with enough stomach acid would feel a burning sensation after taking 1-2 of these pills with a meal high in protein. I'm currently up to 4 pills with no burning sensation. This suggest I have really low stomach acid! There is an actual test but its very pricey and the 'challenge test' I'm taking is supposed to be a decently reliable test to see if one has low stomach acid.
I've only been taking these pills for 3 days now but I will continue and see how many pills I end up needing to take to reach the optimal dosage. I am also taking another supplement that I will mention in another post coming soon after I have some definitive results for y'all.
Why in the world B5 would affect stomach acid is beyond me but that's beside the point.
Hang in there everyone and good luck.

Interesting stuff. But wouldn't a malabsorbtion show in the blood-tests? Most people here on the thread seem to have vitamin levels within the normal range.
I urge everyone to have a look at this article:
It is very possible that the B5 fucked up our stomach and we are now dealing with malabsorption of vitamins. Check if you have any symptoms mentioned
http://jeffreydachmd.com/2013/03/hair-loss-from-low-stomach-acid-lady-in-grey-jeffrey-dach-md/
I have ordered the Betaine Hcl as I have many symptoms that were mentioned and will report back!
I also ordered the Alpha Lipoic Acid, as well as Aloe Vera gel and Coconut oil for topical application!
@Nukeng I posted this a few days ago regarding low stomach acid but nobody seems to have read it. I have also got my Betaine Hcl and I will add it in over the next week. You guys should read the article, it really explains this phenomenon quite well
5 years on still shedding, receded loads, sucks so bad. Where's the updates guys only a few people left now, what's happened to everyone???
Yes I was thinking the same. We need to keep this thread going so we can get to the bottom of this crazy thing. My situation is same as yours, except for 2,5 years, but also receded badly and with very thin hair everywhere from sides to top to neck.

Sucks doesn't it man, there must be some way to cure this, I have any appointment with a dermatologist on 20th February I can't afford to lose any more hair.
Hi smith congrats. I've read you can use that topically, but I guess you're just consuming it. Are you absolutely sure that theres a substantial decrease in hair loss, or is it still reasonably bad?
I dont know how bad it is because we lose so much hair during the day that we are not aware..But I'm definetly losing at least 40 hairs a day. This number could be way worse but I wouldn't know.
The good news is that I'm losing less hair and they are getting thicker.
This image below is some hairs that I lost during 3 different days in the shower. You can see some progress in the number of hair lost and the increase of thickness.
Yes I'm drinking.
It's really cheap where I live, like 10 bucks for 1 pound of powder.
