I have been on colostrum (1 x 500 mg capsule pr day) for about a month now. No changes in hairloss so far.
Churchill, 500mg is a seriously low dose for colostrum. Remember, it isn't an extract, its a food supplement, similar to protein powders. For example, If a weight trainer were to take 500mg of protein powder, it wouldn't have any effect on muscle growth.
I take around two teaspoons, which equals to around 10 grams!
All colostrum really is, is 'first' milk. Maybe Increase your dosage and see what happens?

hair so weak now that it hurts to have a pony tail :'( trying to refresh my memory of cure ideas and phone keeps freezing. did anyone have any luck by reintroducing pantothenic acid at a low dose as suggested earlier on this thread? I presume not.
I dont think anyone has tried. I started but chickened out after 2-3 days. But be my guest!

this study, http://www.toxpath.o...ferativeRat.pdf may be the study you are referencing regarding adrenal gland size.. but this has to do with cytochrome b5 which isn't vitamin b5
his topic needs to be expanded upon. but increases in progesterone are pretty much a good thing from my casual reading, and slight increases in cortisol from b5 is giving b5 its anti stress component and is considered good for both decreasing stress and controlling weight gain. this vitamin clearly has a larger role to play in the body than assistance with coenzyme a function and fat metabolism which is helping people with their skin. on the flip side too much cortisol is a bad thing,.. which may be being caused with mega dosing,..
from a heart health website.. 'Cortisol is a complete opposite of progesterone. Elevated levels of cortisol may lead to osteoporosis, weight gain, adrenal fatigue, high blood pressure, faster heart rate, diabetes, hypercortisolism, insomnia, reduced collagen synthesis, weaker immune system and it may even damage the heart muscle and blood vessels.
On the other hand, acute stress and certain amount of cortisol is beneficial. Cortisol has a role in fight or flight reaction, homeostasis and it possesses anti-inflammatory properties. So, not only that we need to increase progesterone but we also have to balance out these two.'
a deficiency in vitamin b5 can cause atrophy of the adrenal glands,.. perhaps there is a reverse relationship with mega dosing..?
has this been discussed in the hair loss topic people ?
this topic needs to be expanded upon,.. if anyone can add anything, or perhaps clarify some things ive written im sure it would be beneficial for all.. cheers

For anyone supplementing with vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid) I found this persons post to be interesting -
''Took 2-3 grams per day for 10 days. Hair loss started on 10th day. Stopped supplementing immediately. Hair Loss Has not Stopped after a month. READ BELOW,
Bottom line I visited my dermatologist today regarding hair loss due to B5. He works at Tufts Medical Center in Boston with the Dermatology Department. His colleagues and him have seen many hair loss issues related to supplementing with all types of Vitamins.
The Department is aware of hair loss due to Vitamin B5. The cause of hair loss is actually Toxicity. They believe the toxicity is a result of a binding ingredient used in the Supplement that is not labeled on the bottle. They do not believe B5 is the actually cause of hair loss, but it may be. So when taken in high doses, your body becomes poisoned by the binding ingredient (or possibly B5) which causes TE (Telogen effluvium). TE is characterized by diffuse hair shedding. Generally, recovery is spontaneous and occurs within 6 months. My dermatologist said most people recover within 3-5 months, but there are a few cases where people do not recover. Mega-dosing for long periods of time increases the chances of non-recovery.
He explained that hair loss due to B5 (or the binding ingredient in the supplement) is not a Vitamin Deficiency! Therefore supplementing with Biotin or a B-Complex will not protect against the Hair Loss. Your body is poisoned and needs to naturally recover. The best ways he told me to recover are to exercise daily with lots of cardio (you need to sweat) and drink plenty of water. Supplementing with other vitamins, antioxidants, or oils will not stop or prevent the hair loss.
Please Be very careful with B5 and DO NOT MEGADOSE (Over 1 Gram per day)''.
I've taken b5 for several months (5-10g). First I took pills and later on I've switched to the powder version and at that point I noticed the hairloss (10+ hairs fell out when I waxed my hair, even my barber mentioned it that my hair fell out).
I freaked out and went to the doctor, had my blood checked for everything what is linked to hairloss (liver, thyroid, zinc) and the result was that I have a zinc and a vitamin D deficiency. The zinc deficiency can be linked to hairloss so i had to supplement it.
My hairloss has stopped maybe 2 or 3 hairs come out when i heavily rub my head.
So my advice go to your doctor and get your blood checked.
Peace
I still take the zinc, have to take it for 60 days, 1 tablet contains 22,5mg zinc gluconate. It's called zincotabs (europe).
While I was taking b5 (now foods) I Always took brewer's yeast (now foods) with it, maybe that can explain some things as well (has a lot of enzyms like methionine).
When i stopped b5 I still took brewers yeast for a couple weeks.
But after 2 weeks of quitting B5 and no positive effect on the hairloss I had my blood checked.
I hope the hairloss won't come back, but for now my hair is stronger and thicker than before.
My hair is oily again and not as dry when I was on b5, I do also get a pimple back now and then (but use benzac wash and moisturizer)
I will never take B5 again.
I'm male and 22 years old.

My story would contradict the "binding ingredient"-theory, as I only took three capsules of pantethine daily.

Ok so you take half of what I take. Guess zinc doesn't work for me.
Blue09 you still lose your hair? how much time do you have to lose hair? (5 years?) To this forum who loses his hair longer than you?
Yeh been losing hair for 5 years, still shedding and receding. I think itsover has lost hair for 8 years and I no another guy who's been losing hair for around 12-13 years.
Yeh his names Artlan if you research b5 hairloss a lot then you will come across his name many times, I think one of his posts was from 2003 and he's still losing hair now so yeh basically 12 years, yeh I've receded loads, I have come across a few where their hair grew back but it grew back straight after they stopped but then I've read hundreds where people never their hair back.
My opinion if you've been losing hair for a while then it's not going to stop any time soon unless we find the cure
I've been losing hair for about 5 years but since using Nizoral and Minoxidil (for about 11 months now) I have had regrwoth but it's a slow process.
I would say my hairline was receded about 1-2 inches but now the hair is really filling in with plenty of new ones. I can see that if it keeps up my "new" harline will be just about 1 cm receded which would be awesome.
The only thing I worry about is that minoxidil is only supposed to be effective for not much more than a year, hopefully it will keep me going till stem cell therapy is a possibility.
So I just came across this thread and have been taking b5 for almost 5 months. Probably like ten grams a day the entire time(powder form). I don't have any hair loss yet, and I'm not sure if I should quit it since it sounds like for some of you that the hair loss started as soon as you quit. Any advice?
Hi all,
Checking in as promised.
I luckily still am on the right track, hair loss has halted, my hair seems to be better than it was before.
If you go back you can see that I halted the loss quickly by taking EPO and started a topical fungicide
Well I have now only used the topical a total of 2 times, it was not what helped
I am still continuing EPO in varying degrees.
Has anyone tried any variation of GLA?? -epo, borage oil, black currant oil etc
Wishing everyone strong follicles today!

I ordered another round of RU since that is the only thing that definitely grew hair for me. I got brain fog so I am going to use a much smaller dose this time and see if that helps. I am also going to order colostrum. Hopefully this stops the shedding.
Lamp, can you please re-post what exactly you are taking and what doses of each? Is this EPO?
